@GingerBeverage

Anyone notice that it's small centres being offered? I'm booked for a local pharmacy (London). Thought it would be local hospital.
It was the opposite for us, only big places a few miles away. The local place didn't show for me, showed for a nursery mum but no second dose slots. It's fine, DH will get the train and have a stroll.

@tulips27

Out of interest, is it possible to change the times once you've booked? E.g. could I book an inconvenient one now then keep checking back for a nearer spot?
@tulips27 no you can’t. Once book you can only check by cancelling the appointment. The system won’t let you update the appointment. Only cancel

Here in Greater Manchester there are no hospitals or GPs doing first doses any more it’s a combination of mass vaccination sites and some smaller pharmacy-led ones. Given that the mass ones are not easy to get to unless you have a car (well ours aren’t) the pharmacies are going to be increasingly important for local communities.
MRex · 29/04/2021 21:34

I quite liked Brent is jabbing by bus now. It's innovative. Possibly also the post-August model once most are jabbed and second dosed, to save wastage you get a once per week session at the GP or you go to the bus.

I would really caution against trying to cancel and rebook or even just trying to see if there are any alternatives - I stupidly went onto the website which told me I hadn’t shown up for my first dose so needed to book both again and so had a quick look at availability out of interest and then abandoned the process. I then got a text a few minutes later to say that I had cancelled my second dose and now I can’t book another. Who knows if I ever will be able to now! Wish I had left the whole thing well alone! Helpline advised me to ring back in a few days. So pissed off!

Eccle80 · 29/04/2021 21:41

A mixture of big centres and pharmacies showed for me, the centre I booked at I could have had any time tomorrow, loads of appointments.

Has everyone who booked today had confirmations through? DH got text messages but I’ve had nothing, I screenshotted the confirmation numbers though

Frazzled2207 · 29/04/2021 21:43

@Marjoriesdoor
Agree I wouldn’t unless you really can’t go to the appointment you have made. The second appointments are sometimes harder to find and you might end up in a right pickle . I was thinking of trying to change Dh’s as there are a lot more options locally now for 1st but not necessarily for 2nd so we are leaving well alone!

Scissorsforthedrifter · 29/04/2021 21:46

I didn't get a text or an email but I've got the references

Someone in an earlier cohort had this and was able to book loads of slots the next day once it updated. Don't worry, worst case you'll be a few days earlier or later.

Just booked husband who's Feb 81. Very happy indeed as he's higher risk but didn't get an earlier call up. All booked in for this Sunday. yay!

My confirmation text and email was also held up but has since arrived too. Hurray!!!
Eccle80 · 29/04/2021 22:54

So pleased for everyone who has been able to book today!

I see a couple of front pages of tomorrow’s papers mention opening vaccines to all over 40s, we’re ahead of them!

Bexs2247 · 29/04/2021 23:11

Hey all, anyone in Norfolk tried to book? I’m 40 and it seems I can get through to booking (although it does come up saying I didn’t turn up for an appointment and I need to rebook both?!?) but there is absolutely nothing coming up for appointments near me. We have a big vaccination centre in one of our local shopping centres too but even that isn’t coming up!!

pinkpanther84 · 29/04/2021 23:40

My DH, March 81, just booked for a weeks time at Westpoint Exeter! I'm born 84 and not eligible

tulips27 · 29/04/2021 23:57

If people are having to book for places far away, how much do they need to rest immediately after the jab? If you travel for a couple of hours could it risk making you a bit unwell?

mouldygrapes · 30/04/2021 00:07

Managed to book for my OH who is 40, appt next week. Couldn’t book earlier this week when we tried.
So pleased!

Boohooyouho · 30/04/2021 02:03

I just checked when I saw the news about 40+ to see if it would let me (not 40 for another week or so) and I’ve got an appointment for Tuesday at the excel centre. The closest site to me didn’t have any appointments until the end of May But I’ve booked that one for my second dose. Just got it in before the school holidays so childcare won’t be an issue.

Polly271220 · 30/04/2021 05:51

Had mine yesterday. Buckinghamshire 35

I'm in Norfolk and having the same issue. I've been offered countless appointments in Boston, Skegness and Bury St Edmunds but nothing in Norfolk.

The 'need to rebook' message seems to come up for me too, I think it's because the website knows I tried to book before and gets a bit confused

MRex · 30/04/2021 06:08

With all the vaccines you need to wait 15 minutes. Pfizer is monitored in case of anaphylaxis, Oxford AZ is just in case of fainting because a certain proportion will faint after any vaccine. Not sure how much they monitor Moderna.

I don't think anyone gets side effects too soon after the jab, but travelling under an hour or having someone drive you might be best.
