I wonder if it's a glitch?

In Some areas, eg Newcastle, all the local Gp services decided to club together and run an over arching service.

I think the only ones they've been doing at the Gp are elderly people who can't travel, clinical vulnerabilities etc. My in laws booked through the National service (before they got the letter, as there was a thread here at the time saying ti try if not yet received) which told them to go through the National service.

Not sure what Gateshead did but certainly some areas there seem to be well ahead and also doing through Gp. 41 year old friend with no clinical issues had hers at Gp two weeks ago, mid 40s seemed to be about 6 weeks ago.

I think it just depends how each area decided to structure it and presumably supplies. I know Newcastle were "too" efficient at first and then some supplies were diverted elsewhere to help catch areas up.

Our local GPs had set up a hub clinic, and there was also a community clinic that was doing loads of people. Now it's down to a handful of GP practices each covering 5-10 GPs, plus a little pharmacy that's a long way away. Our GP hub clinic rushed through second doses and closed up, now operating directly from one tiny GP practice instead. Given they don't have much vaccine it makes sense I guess, they don't need many appointments. I'm not clear where DH will be able to book unless the GP invites him (it isn't our GP), nor if my second dose will be in a different location or have the site open again. It's all a bit random.

For all of you thinking of travelling for your vaccine, just be aware in case you don’t feel great afterwards that you may need someone to take you so they can drive you home. DH nearly passed out after his jab and had to be taken to the side room to lie down and be monitored. He was fine, they observed him and were happy for him to leave but he did not feel up to driving home still. The staff were lovely but said he was the fourth person that day. So not likely, but possible you may not feel up to driving after.

ConnieDobbs · 27/04/2021 21:41

My text today said that it came from the NHS, not my gp. And my GP presumably knows that I've already had it.

squishysquashy · 27/04/2021 22:27

DH (Aug 79) got the text today. Has been trying to book this evening but getting an error message after selecting the slots.

Well that’s everyone’s holidays sorted, as I can’t imagine anything that could be easier to forge.

OneSecond · 27/04/2021 22:51

DH (August 1979) just got a text and booked in locally. Surrey. Earliest slot was Saturday but he chose a later date to stagger our jabs.

lilyborderterrier · 27/04/2021 23:06

Had my 1st Vaccination today. I’m 42 ( nearly 43) where I live the local Doctors sent me a text to book an appointment. I’m so thankful and grateful x

ChubbyCat · 28/04/2021 06:35

I'm 43 and still not been able to book. Only get offered locations 50 m away and even they only have appointments 3 weeks from now.
I hope they make more appointments available before they open the booking for further age groups.

HSHorror · 28/04/2021 07:19

Wombat- travelling is fine. Expecting bristol to go to taunton is NOT!
They need to get appts where they are needed.
There are people last week booking for next day or now a few days away but an hour each way is not right when there is a city right there.
There are literally no excuses for this yet another cock up.
Also it is exactly the same as happened when the only time we needed a covid test. There were appts in wales. Unless from mn you knew the refresh time. 0 home tests either.
Plus this system isnt even saying how far it is searching up to.
There are lots of reasons people cant do a 2h round trip.
Work or picking kids up.
It will be minimum 5w between friends at same gp geting theirs at 44 vs dp 42.
Also if i hadnt been done it would be 4h more for dp off work as i cant drive that far into an unknown area.
They have seemed to be supplying some areas more than others.
Also if you knew no more appts will appear for then you could make a descision but the site itself says more sites opening (which is unlikely the case.)
There is nothing
Swindon
Gloucester
Weston
Bath etc!!

So its
Taunton or exeter or bournemouth.

This is in comparison to relatives in usa who got vaxxed at 45 6w ago and had second pfizer 3w later.

Dailywalk · 28/04/2021 07:37

First check of the day done. No change from yesterday.
(Aug 79.)

Frazzled2207 · 28/04/2021 07:39

@HSHorror
@WombatChocolate
It’s the same in Manchester where there is nothing. I have heard that all the gp hubs are not doing under 50s and we have to all go to the mass vaccination sites which is fine but there are no appointments. But at least 7/8 options come up in the Liverpool area what’s that about?
You’d hope that as gp hubs close up somebody somewhere has the job of making sure that there are other options locally for the people affected. I’m not so sure.
We’re not that bothered about going to liverpool etc in principle but when we both work and only have one car and public transport to any of the sites is much less than straightforward then it makes it very difficult for many people. I’m happy for them but it is very disheartening to hear of others getting appointments 5m down the road when there is nothing reasonable for many of us.

I really hope the age groups don’t go down in this area until a lot more appointments have been made available.

PeasPeasPeas · 28/04/2021 07:39

Just checked. 1981. Not eligible.

LongBlobson · 28/04/2021 07:43

Age 40, W Midlands, had a text from GP this week inviting me to book.

Wingingit15 · 28/04/2021 07:51

It is ridiculous how there is so variation across the country, hugely frustrating. Guess all we can do is wait as patiently as possible !

Quartz2208 · 28/04/2021 07:59

First check of the day done. No change from yesterday. (Aug 79.)
Same!
Eccle80 · 28/04/2021 08:01

I’m just so fed up with it all now. Fed up of checking, fed up of hearing of nearby surgeries vaccinating people in their 20s and 30s whilst I am still waiting, fed up that it seems lot of GPs did all asthmatics in group 6 despite the guidance except mine.

It sounds like the vaccination centres near me do have appointments too as people have mentioned being offered them from further away in this thread (probably because it seems like every GP except mine round here has already done the lower 40s!)

doorornottodoor · 28/04/2021 08:03

Anyone here Scotland? I’m 48 and still not heard anything.

Jobsharenightmare · 28/04/2021 08:42

Midlands and people 30+ are being vaccinated here this week.

Scissorsforthedrifter · 28/04/2021 08:46

@Eccle80 another GP would have done me in group 6 too. It's frustrating. Maybe we'll be able to book today.

vaxmeup · 28/04/2021 08:57

It seems like supply is a major issue as they are only doing around 100,000 first doses each day- I guess under 40s will be called towards the end of May which is still pretty good, I think we all just got our hopes up at the speed of the earlier rollout and media 'sources' reporting that over 40s would be done by Easter!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 28/04/2021 09:08

They are working their way down the 40s quite quickly- I expect they will call some years in the late 30s at some point next week after a few days of the 40s and 41s which will probably be the end of this week or early next week..

TheMerrickBoy · 28/04/2021 09:27

Well I've caved and booked my first jab 50 miles away on Monday and my second in July 25 miles away. I'm really hoping this will be picked up in the news cycle at some point though - it's really shit that once they hit this bracket people are expected to get themselves across the country when there are centres much nearer!

I've also noticed that most of the places I could have gone to have much worse infection rates than we do here, is that the same for anyone else?

TankGirl97 · 28/04/2021 09:33

This is interesting as all the folks I know local to Taunton can't book there and are having to travel to Yeovil or Exeter. We are all being bumped further away from our local vaccination centres.
glitterelf · 28/04/2021 09:44

It's so frustrating there's clearly some major issues going on. I have a large hub 2.7 miles away that I cannot book through because there are no second dose slots available and even when I've opted to have the second dose elsewhere it's the same message.
