Heavy period after vaccine?

Had my vaccine on Wednesday and 2 days later have had the heaviest period ever. I had to get up on the night and shower - it was awful! Has anyone else experienced this?

Sorry that’s aimed at the GPs rather than you.

@OhDear2200

Just what doctors have told me and others i know 🤷🏻‍♀️

TeddingtonTrashbag · 09/06/2021 19:58

Interesting! A post- menopausal friend also had this!

chloworm · 09/06/2021 20:02

Yes. Missed period after AZ, then super heavy one, then heavy one 2 weeks after that.

Haggisfish · 09/06/2021 20:04

It’s part of the immune reaction apparently.

Im so pleased I've found this thread.

I have a contraceptive implant and haven't had a period in year. I had the Pfizer vaccine on Saturday and I've had a period.

I've been a little concerned about this. I know this is going to sound weird, but im pleased others are experiencing the same. I'm not alone.

Shall I report this? Are you reporting it?

something2say · 09/06/2021 20:18

Conversely.....I'm now 91 days WITHOUT a period. For context, I'm 46 and peri. The longest gap I've ever had was 3.5 years ago and it was 48 days. I'm not sure what to make of this. My partner has had a vasectomy btw, few years ago....

You're the opposite of me. It is worrying, isn't it?

Im actually getting cross now, after reading the BBC article.
When I went for the vaccine, they did the whole rigmarole of side affects and also asked if I was pregnant, but didn't mention impact to periods.
All they had to do was mention something and I wouldn't have been as worried as I have been.

@Walkaround

Perimenopausal, so no way of knowing if my slightly heavier than normal period, which came an unpredictable amount of time after, was linked to the vaccine. What is bizarre is the colossal surge in my libido the minute my period stopped. I’ve never felt this way almost constantly, all day, for so long (3 days so far). The slightest thing sets me off thinking about sex. It’s weird! No way of knowing if that’s linked to the vaccine either!!! I don’t suppose anyone else has found this?!
Well, after my later and heavier than normal post-vaccine period and weird hormonal surge the day the bleeding stopped (accompanied by swollen, heavy, uncomfortable breasts for the last fortnight), I now have another period, 17 days after the last one started. It’s like my body held back my last period then caught up with itself in a huge rush, with somewhat weird hormonal side effects!
Utterlyexhausted · 10/06/2021 18:56

6 weeks post 2nd Pfizer vaccine & I have been bleeding for the past 13 days..this is my first period since the vaccine and I've always been like clockwork and lasts 4 days max so this is very abnormal for me.

It's also been very heavy, even at day 13.

I'm 48, and I know I'm not far from menopause however I agree with the other posters who feel the vaccine may have expedited things..

DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo · 10/06/2021 19:05

I can't link to the other post, but it's such a pain isn't it.

I've just been turned down for life insurance because of my 'post menopausal bleeding' . They may reconsider me once fully satisfied and signed off by a consultant.

Unfitbuttrying47 · 14/06/2021 23:26

Vaccine#2 and once again, exactly 5 days later, heavy bleeding! I hope it doesn’t last as long as the last time.

JamieLeeBee · 14/06/2021 23:49

I hadn't given it any thought, but I'm on the pill and had my first since vaccine just after my last pill break. It wasnt ridiculously heavy but went on for more than a week! I sincerely hope it doesn't continue or I'll be on more than I'm off 😨
