Heavy period after vaccine?

Marjie3 · 17/04/2021 08:21

Had my vaccine on Wednesday and 2 days later have had the heaviest period ever. I had to get up on the night and shower - it was awful! Has anyone else experienced this?

I've posted on other similar threads. Last period in 2017 (so well into menopause), then after first AZ vaccine I had a period.

It is really weird. Just had second jab and wondering if it will happen again.

Walkaround · 31/05/2021 20:03

Perimenopausal, so no way of knowing if my slightly heavier than normal period, which came an unpredictable amount of time after, was linked to the vaccine. What is bizarre is the colossal surge in my libido the minute my period stopped. I’ve never felt this way almost constantly, all day, for so long (3 days so far). The slightest thing sets me off thinking about sex. It’s weird! No way of knowing if that’s linked to the vaccine either!!! I don’t suppose anyone else has found this?!

WaverleyPirate · 03/06/2021 20:18

All clear for me. Saw consultant & apparently nothing to do with the vaccine.

Nobble · 03/06/2021 21:40

I cant recall my period after my 1st dose of Pfizer as it was in December (healthcare worker), but after my second in March my periods have been horrendous. Two consecutive months the worst pain ever, and super heavy. Super plus tampons lasting an hour at best and pads for back up. Trying to change the tampon and theres blood all over the floor.
I'm normally heavy (use super tampons) but never had it pouring out of me like this, I was terried of getting in a mess if I left the house. @Walkaround I also had a weird libdo thing last month, same as you the thought of sex drove me insane and I was having very irrational thoughts. Im not normally bothered about sex and have never had a high libido. Very odd!

Hamilfan · 03/06/2021 22:53

I had my 1st on 31st March. My period came as normal as few days later but was mega heavy. 2nd period came a week early, and 3rd 5 weeks later but basically a brown discharge. I am seeing the doctor next week, just to rule out anything nasty (defo not pregnant)

I'm due my 2nd vaccine next week so will see what happens next. Might be a coincidence, but never had any problems before now

Iceniii · 08/06/2021 08:46

Had Pfizer 2 weeks ago and have come on a week early and it is extra heavy. Was also vomitting with it this morning.

No idea if related. Not been early before.

Pinuporc · 08/06/2021 08:53

Mine was 3 weeks late (I normally have a very short cycle) and when it did come it was very heavy and had a horrible flooding issue at work!Blush

LegoPirateMonkey · 08/06/2021 08:53

I suffer from very heavy periods so worried about this. Post Pfizer jab, my period was heralded by unusually bad cramps that made me double over but the period itself is lighter than normal. I use a mooncup so it’s very easy to compare. It’s not filling like it always does. I wonder if the period will now last longer or stop and start. Has anyone else found their post vaccine period lighter? It seems to go the other way for everyone else!

Curatingchaos · 08/06/2021 08:56

Yes the same , day after Pfizer.
Couple of weeks early.

cheezy · 08/06/2021 10:24

Mine was a week early.

wasthataburp · 08/06/2021 10:26

I believe it is now an official side effect.

Sunbird24 · 08/06/2021 10:43

I’ve been testing LH religiously as I’m having IVF and waiting to have an embryo transfer. I didn’t ovulate after my AZ first dose in May, and my period arrived a week early. Fortunately ovulated as normal this month so looks like I can go ahead next cycle. It’s definitely not stress, I’ve been through WAY worse than a vaccination and not had any change to my cycle. Hard to argue that all these women have coincidentally been so stressed in the month they got their covid jabs that they all had some kind of hysterical response (in the original sense of the word)

Curatingchaos · 08/06/2021 11:42

Mine was accompanied by crippling cramps, really bad stomach and intense back pain. It felt like labour and I was amazed to learn they give this Pfizer vaccine to pregnant women.

Iceniii · 09/06/2021 11:34

This is the most painful period I've had. By day 3 the pain isn't generally there, but it's worse now. Down my legs, right over my ovaries.

NotBot · 09/06/2021 13:50

No effect on mine. Had Pfizer 3 weeks ago, period started on Monday as expected & normal. Sadly heavy periods are the norm for me 😭

FakeFruitShoot · 09/06/2021 13:56

@AgnesNaismith yes!!!! Re the lochia thing. Sort of jellyish, a bit lumpy and a bit smelly.

Back to normal now, 6 weeks on from jab and have just had a bog standard boring period.

MHRA yellow card scheme it, if you can OP.

@Sunbird24 - to be fair, a virus or vaccination puts stress on the body, so it can still be “stress.” The word has more than one narrow meaning (ie the narrow meaning you are offended by). A novel virus and/or vaccine are likely significantly more stressful to the body than viruses that have mutated over time to be better adapted and less novel to the human immune system, and I see no reason why the novel vaccines to deal with them would not be similarly challenging to the immune system. I would be surprised if no woman has ever had a similar stress reaction to any other vaccine ever.
Sunbird24 · 09/06/2021 17:10

I wasn’t at all offended @Walkaround, more bemused! However there are doctors telling women that their cycle changes are down to stress and it’s nothing to do with the jab, which it looks like we agree isn’t true.

Walkaround · 09/06/2021 17:59

@Sunbird24 - I certainly agree! Stress as in anxiety is too often trotted out as a reason for women’s issues. It’s an easy one to blame on anything you can’t explain, especially as the unexplained and not properly acknowledged is stressful, so you can never tell if it’s more of a cause or more of a consequence.

DirectionsForUse · 09/06/2021 18:04

My periods have been regular as clockwork, 28days for 30+ years. I came on the week after my second Pfizer jab, giving me a two week cycle that month. I also didn't have the sore breasts that usually tell me it's on the way. Back to normal this month.

TBH I initially thought it must be the start of menopause messing with me. I didn't think about the fact I'd had the jab until I went to mark it in my diary.

Cravendale · 09/06/2021 18:07

Had an extremely heavy period

Yep, can happen

Its normal and nothing to worry about according to afew doctors iv spoken to

adrianmolesmole · 09/06/2021 18:22

This is so strange - I think I've been having the opposite effect. My periods have been later and later since I had the Pfzier, this month it's 7 days late so far and this has been happening for a few months now since I had my first jab.

Took a preggers test today and no, I'm not pregnant. I feel so bloated though!

Daisiesarebeautiful · 09/06/2021 18:40

Very typical of gp's to dismiss women's health concerns. Severe menorrhagia after a vaccine, especially in post menopausal women is in no way normal!

123abcyellowredblue · 09/06/2021 19:20

Had my first jab in early March and my period arrived a week early and heavier than normal. No obvious problem after my second jab but that was only 2.5 weeks ago

My period after my vaccine was horrific. I’ve never had one like it. So I think I’ll be the judge of whether it was something to worry about. I’m allowed to be worried when something so dramatic has happened to me.
