Heavy period after vaccine?

Marjie3 · 17/04/2021 08:21

Had my vaccine on Wednesday and 2 days later have had the heaviest period ever. I had to get up on the night and shower - it was awful! Has anyone else experienced this?

Period arrived 4 days after the vaccine. That was 15 days ago and still heavy. Vaccine side effect or coincidence? It’s making me feel washed out now though.

MangosteenSoda · 24/04/2021 08:01

Same as a pp. Period the day following the vaccine, about 10 days earlier than expected.

PosyBoo · 24/04/2021 08:07

My two periods since having the Pfizer vaccine have both been horrendously heavy and I’m used to very heavy periods. This is another league though. To be honest its putting me off having the second dose!

Moomin37 · 24/04/2021 08:12

I started spotting the day after the AZ and after two weeks this turned into a heavy period that hasn't stopped yet. So been bleeding since 30th March... it's costing me a fortune in Always Platinum 🤣 I should say I'm peri so unpredictability / heavy flow is the norm, but this period did come much earlier than I expected given previous cycles.

Unfitbuttrying47 · 24/04/2021 08:23

This one is definitely another level in terms of heaviness. I’m sleeping on towels and everything. Echoing what a pp said, I’m not looking forward to jab 2.

Canyouexplainhowthatis · 24/04/2021 08:25

Second period after Pfizer jab. Arrived on time but it’s the heaviest period I’ve ever had! Day 2 yesterday I was soaking a tampon every hour or two!

Has tapered off now on day 3 thankfully and seems more normal.

Unfitbuttrying47 · 27/04/2021 21:28

Day 18 now. At what point, if any, should this be checked out?

Buzzinwithbez · 27/04/2021 21:38

Lots of interesting info here and from the pages linked within it.

I agree it's insulting to suggest it's stress. Women know their bodies!

Haggisfish · 27/04/2021 22:12

@Unfitbuttrying47 I’d be at the gp ASAP tbh.

A link to a survey about it: redcap.healthinstitute.illinois.edu/surveys/index.php?s=LL8TKKC8DP

Had a bleed a week after 1st dose which was right in the middle of my cycle - never happened before in 35 years, and this month’s period has been a complete PITA but I am peri menopausal

Glitterblue · 27/04/2021 23:44

I'm waiting to see what happens with mine - I had my jab last week and have a very crampy stomach tonight as if it's about to start but I'm not due on yet so we will see what happens. I've also had raging PMT symptoms the last couple of days.

piddocktrumperiness · 28/04/2021 06:28

My periods stopped and started ever since I got vaccinated 4 weeks ago- started off light, then stopped, spotting, then stopped and now very heavy. It's exhausting.

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 28/04/2021 07:58

I had my AZ jab on the first day of my period. Within about 4 hours it was the heaviest bleeding I have ever had- easily comparable with post childbirth. This lasted 48 hours, then bleeding stopped entirely, much sooner than a normal period.

Doggotired · 28/04/2021 08:05

I had my az vaccine 2 days into my period which usually lasts 5 days and has been like that forever and it stopped the same day and never came back?! A bit worrying for someone younger who could be trying to conceive

Makinglists · 28/04/2021 18:00

So glad I've found this thread. I had Az , then had my period 2 weeks early, 2 weeks later another bloomin period. I'm 51 so I know things are starting to change but to be honest I'm still pretty regular. I feel like death with my latest period much worse than usual.

feelinggeriatric · 28/04/2021 18:39

I'm in week 6 of an insanely heavy period, it started about 2 days before the vaccine though. Had to be prescribed codeine for the first time ever. But I'm definitely in the midst of menopause hell so who knows ! Really had enough now is all I can say whatever the reason!!

mustlovegin · 28/04/2021 20:51

I had first dose of AZ and noticed no difference on my period (how heavy it was or timeliness)

JingleJangleBell · 04/05/2021 12:28

I haven't had a period for 2 years after stopping the contraceptive injections but 2 weeks after vaccine have started bleeding

Oldandolder · 08/05/2021 19:16

I had strange period after my second AZ.
Started as shocking cramping, had to take two lots of different painkillers, was like contractions pain.
It stopped after a day or two, only lingering like spotting.
Now it spotting light pink discharge on day 13.
My periods are very accurate like a clock for whole of my life.

optimistic40 · 28/05/2021 09:03

Had my vaccination at the beginning of the month. Period arrived a few days early (day 25 of cycle) and is extremely heavy. This happens occasionally for me, every couple of years, so I don't know if it's related to the vaccine or not.

Was AstraZeneca and I'm 40.

AzureTwist · 28/05/2021 13:29

Had AZ. After second dose had spotting first, then heaviest period I have ever had, including a scarily large clot. Lasted 12-14 days with spotting either side. No idea if I am in peri.

Buttybach · 31/05/2021 16:19

Mine took 6 weeks to come and was really heavy after my vaccine

FuzzyPenguin · 31/05/2021 16:22

I haven’t had periods for years since the implant, 3 weeks after AZ it arrives. I hope it hasn’t messed with the effectiveness of the implant the last thing I need is a baby.

concernedlamaqueen · 31/05/2021 18:35

First jab I was 2 weeks late (although mega stressed). Second jab I'm now 2 weeks early Confused
