Moderna or AZ

If you could pick would you go for moderna? My local hubs seem to have one of these depending on where you book so I could most probably choose which one to have.

I don't really care, I'll have whatever I'm given. In fact I'd rather not have a choice!

How do you know what your local hubs have?

LimeFizz · 14/04/2021 08:38

I know people who work at both.

I'm having the moderna one in about an hour, I haven't seen much about the side effects yet.

As a healthy 30 year old I'd rather have Moderna. I would have AZ if I was offered but the fact that all other countries are suspending it for people my age doesn't fill me with confidence!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/04/2021 08:55

But then who knows, there could end up being these same rare side effects with Moderna too.

Katya213 · 14/04/2021 08:56

I would prefer astrazeneca but will take what is offered to me.

TimeQuest01 · 14/04/2021 10:15

@LimeFizz, the one thing I’ve read about Modena is that it seems to affect the arm a bit more than others.

I’m not saying this for you to panic, but so that you don’t worry IF it happens to you.

I would be surprised if they didn’t tell you at the vaccination site.

LimeFizz · 14/04/2021 11:28

Thank you, they said I might get side effects but didn't specify.

I'm grateful for any and would have taken either but wasn't expecting I be able to choose.

PandoraP · 14/04/2021 11:29

Moderna. Denmark has just stopped using the AZ completely.

IWantAllTheDogsInTheWorld · 14/04/2021 11:31

I had the Moderna yesterday, no side effects yet apart from a sore arm and a small red patch (5p size).

paralysedbyinertia · 14/04/2021 11:34

All vaccines carry a very slight risk. Covid carries a bigger risk than all of them, so just be glad to get your jab.

I don't think people usually obsess over which brand of the flu jab they might get?

lljkk · 14/04/2021 11:38

I didn't want either but at least AZ costs less to govt (my future taxes) & have a model to roll it out at low cost to rest of world.

Presumably they gave you the leaflet that specifies the side effects? If not, it’s here assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/975784/PIL_Moderna_01.04.2021.pdf
ThatOtherPoster · 14/04/2021 11:40

How can you find out which hubs are offering Moderna? I just got the NHS text to book but it only tells you the locations, and not which jab you’d get.

I’d prefer the Moderna.

poppycat10 · 14/04/2021 12:10

Reading football club is; I think some but not all have been listed in news articles.

Wakeupin2022 · 14/04/2021 12:17

I would like Moderna just to be different and it's a very good vaccine.

But I'm not at all fussed and will take anything.

The only one I would rather not have (but again would take if offered) is J&J. Purely because it doesn't seem quite as good as other vaccines. But I won't be offered it anyway as I will be vaccinated in next few weeks and that is not available until July.

Wakeupin2022 · 14/04/2021 12:19

@PandoraP

They will probably have to do the same with J&J too which is going to cause them major issues.

Still it's vaccines that hoepfully they will redistribute elsewhere.

TheVanguardSix · 14/04/2021 12:22

Moderna all day long. It's just a better vaccine to put it simply.

DandelionSprout · 14/04/2021 13:34

Pretty much everyone would pick Moderna. People are only having AZ because there’s no choice.

oneglassandpuzzled · 14/04/2021 13:38

Lots of us have had AZ with few or only very slight side-effects.

RaspberryPies · 14/04/2021 13:41

I’d prefer Moderna because of the higher efficacy but I had AZ and was grateful for it.

That depends on your age though. And I don't have the flu jab.

You have a choice not to take it. They aren't pinning you down for the jabs. Don't want it, don't take it. Save it for someone else.

Not necessarily. I'm within easy driving distance of one of the big centres doing Moderna. I have chosen to go to my local hub instead which will (presumably) be AZ.

Really don't care which one I get - the AZ clotting risk is miniscule, and we don't know that people won't be worrying about a rare Moderna side effect in a few months. I'm just happy to be vaccinated at all.

Humphriescushion · 14/04/2021 14:41

Moderna.

ifonly4 · 14/04/2021 15:01

I really wouldn't mind, OP. I've already had two doses AZ by the way, my side effects where minor and none of my friends or their DHs had any.
