So are we assuming Edward and Sophie stood in the garden an consoled the queen?

I hope they didn't and instead used their common sense. Hopefully more and more people are doing the same thing.

I'd assume they've all had their two doses of the jab, and did a test before visiting.

EvilOnion · 10/04/2021 16:39

No - and I wouldn't have either!

AlexaShutUp · 10/04/2021 16:40

Not sure, but my elderly aunt had a couple of visitors when my uncle died recently. Would that not count as assisting a vulnerable person or something?

Seeline · 10/04/2021 16:40

Surely as they were caring for someone vulnerable, they are allowed indoors?

satishoused · 10/04/2021 16:43

But even if they are all vaccinated that's still against the (ridiculous) rules.

By my understanding as a single person is the queen now not able to form a bubble with another household? Regardless of the rules common sense and compassion has to apply!

Exactly
gingercat02 · 10/04/2021 17:04

I don't know why but I think the Queen would be a stickler for the rules. I would imagine Windsor castle has a lovely garden or sun room or similar that is open enough to be classed as outside. She doesn't live in a 2 up 2 down. However I suspect his children would have visited their father before he passed

Ginger1982 · 10/04/2021 17:10

When my gran died last May, I met my mum outside but I confess I did hug her and, in that moment, I don't regret it.

OpheliasCrayon · 10/04/2021 17:14

Does it matter ?

peak2021 · 10/04/2021 17:14

Windsor Castle has plenty of outdoor space. I have stayed there and can vouch for this.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 10/04/2021 17:18

There's something really sick about you trying to make your feelings about the Covid rules known by using a grieving widow who has just lost the man she was married to for 7 decades.

I couldn't care less if she was hugged, kissed, had 1, 7 or 300 people console her.

notdaddycool · 10/04/2021 17:20

Does it matter ?
Is the right answer
satishoused · 10/04/2021 17:23

I hope she was hugged and kissed and consoled by all of her visitors @HalfShrunkMoreToGo in defiance of these inhumane rules

Call me cynical but I very much doubt Edward ans Sophie are “consoling the queen”. I suspect they went to pay their respects and left after doing the normal thing when a parent sadly dies. Charles is supposed to be staying with her and I would guess that’s correct.

MindyStClaire · 10/04/2021 17:31

When my dad died a couple of months ago we didn't distance among the immediate family. I imagine most families are doing this regardless of the guidelines and I would hope the royals are no different. I was actually wondering that yesterday, if they'd be able to see each other or if they're going to have to be seen to be super strict. Hopefully not.

Lockdownbear · 10/04/2021 17:38

I imagine that they'll see her on the grounds of providing support to a vulnerable person.

However remembering HMS Bubble they can't put the staff at risk or the Queen so I think it will have been a Socially Distanced visit or mitigating risks testing themselves first etc

AbsolutelyPatsy · 10/04/2021 17:41

i gave my dm a hug yesterday, and at easter, for the first time in over a year.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 10/04/2021 17:42

hasnt edward taken over the dukedom?

DdraigGoch · 10/04/2021 17:43

The weather is lovely at the moment. Who wouldn't do a garden visit even if it weren't for covid?

DdraigGoch · 10/04/2021 17:44

Not until the Queen dies apparently. I'm not sure why, surely the normal thing would be for the title to pass on and the widow to become "Dowager Duchess".

Where is the weather lovely?

I think compassionate visit rules apply.

cyclingmad · 10/04/2021 17:49

They should be following the guidelines like everyone else has to. Lead by example

Queen isn't on her own she has staff their.

This. if anyone is offended by the idea that her family maybe physically comforting the Queen after her loss then they need to give their head a wobble.
