MHRA may change advice for young people receiving AZ vaccine

I just saw this news story on Channel 4 news tonight.

www.channel4.com/news/uk-medicines-regulator-considers-issuing-new-advice-over-oxford-astrazeneca-jab

It seems the MHRA may follow other European countries and Canada and advise that younger people should not receive the AZ vaccine. It seems the decision will be made imminently in the coming days.

I’m due to book my vaccine this week and don’t know whether to wait and see how this plays out. I’m 42. I’m also concerned that if younger people will only be offered the Pfizer vaccine it will slow down the vaccine programme substantially.

Any thoughts?

Show me the shrieks, the frothing.

Show me where I patronised you.

As I said earlier, you have your reasons based on your personal health history. That doesn't apply to the majority.

And that you haven't actually answered any question. You just pile on the sarcasm and disinformation

Hint: other vaccines have other issues. Do some research, even if only in this specific thread! Your thoughts and feelings are NOT facts, aren't even based in facts

shrieking and frothing

Or explaining against the high emotion

You’re right dear, the above is absolutely not rude, condescending and reeking of a misplaced superiority complex.

Grin

Exasperated at the crap being sprouted.

@Namechange1991x

Our mums initial symptoms were an extremely bad headache. She went to bed then unconscious, never recognised us again, put on a life support machine and went brain stem dead in a week.
That’s heartbreaking @Namechange1991x I’m so sorry to hear that Flowers I hope you and your sister can get an answer soon wrt the vaccine.
MarshaBradyo · 08/04/2021 12:48

@BuggerBognor

No high emotion here *@MarshaBradyo - I’ve repeatedly explained why I’m not having the AZ vaccine. I just keep getting frothed on by @CuriousaboutSamphire*
It’s up to you I haven’t followed your circumstances but I find posters such as Curious and others good in situations like this as they often use data and processes in posts

I’d say it’s opposite of frothing and shrieking although the site has gone crazy with it after recent announcements

It would be ideal if people could choose their vaccine. But in practice the NHS can’t offer that. There are millions of people and it would be too complex to organise. Also people would be making the decision with no medical knowledge and potentially putting themselves at risk, or creating supply chain problems by overwhelmingly choosing one vaccine and boycotting another. It’s just not realistic.

Namechange1991x · 08/04/2021 13:11

@bumbleymummy thank you 🌸🌸

MimiPigeon other countries are managing
Other countries have hardly vaccinated anyone and are going back into lockdown as a result. If that’s what comes from letting people be picky then it’s good that the UK isn’t facilitating that. If we can vaccinate more people quickly by not giving a choice then that’s what we should do.

AlexaShutUp · 08/04/2021 13:18

other countries are managing. Why is the NHS so relatively incapable?

I don't think that's fair. The NHS has vaccinated (or partially vaccinated) a much higher proportion of our population than most other countries, many of which are currently seeing a surge in death rates from covid. Perhaps those countries would have been better off offering less choice and focusing on rolling out the vaccination programme more quickly?

The risk is minuscule and you have no idea what risks the other vaccines carry. You’re being offered a vaccine for free, and you DO have a choice: take it or leave it.

bumbleymummy · 08/04/2021 13:29

It's interesting to see the risk of the vaccine being described as 'miniscule' with a 1 in 250,000 risk. For younger people, the risk of covid is around that or even smaller but you don't see the same people describing it as 'miniscule' .

Since yesterday? I think we have!

But we now have a multi strand discussion, to'ing and fro'ing over older data and disusssions and the new data.

It gets confusing. And some of it is redundent now!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 08/04/2021 13:33

Let’s just hope that trying to push the cheapo vaccine in the UK doesn’t backfire And you accused me of hysteria and frothing!

Ah! I get it. Sensationalist language is OK, when you use it.

Responding with facts and links is hysteria and frothing.

OK. We're on the same page now!

Cheers Grin

Curious I think your posts on this and other threads have been very informative unlike some other posters who seem to be close to hysterical in their fear of a very rare side effect.
45 people died yesterday from covid. About the same the day before and the day before that. No figures on how many of those who caught covid last week will develop long covid.
19 people have died since January from this rare side effect of AZ.
In the USA there have been rare side effects from Phizer, Moderna and Janssen.
Take the vaccine or not, it's an individual's decision but don't kid yourself that any of these vaccines are 100% safe. None of them are.
I am personally eager for second jabs for both myself and my son who is 32. Both of us have health issues which mean covid is likely to affect us badly. He was given AZ and I was given Phizer.
