My in-laws are acting like it's all disappeared over night.

Travelling to london, going out for lunches and dinners in people's houses etc.

They're vaccinated now so I suppose they don't mind.

They've all but invited themselves around to ours in a couple of weeks time!

oh so bloody what if they are ! people are sick to death of it now and want to go back to leading a normal life . the vaccine was we were told our way out of this so this goverment arent going to be able to keep on using fear of sodding varients to keep controlling people they have had enough and that includes me . im glad your inlaws arent cowering indoors and if your that worried about having them round you will have to think of some lame excuse wont you

JinglingHellsBells · 05/04/2021 12:18

A lot of posters here are forgetting about the new variants which are emerging all the time.

The more cases there are, the more chance they will be the new variants and the vaccine is not very effective against those. That is why each year we will have boosters.

The more mixing there is too early, before enough people are vaccinated, the higher the risk of another wave, of a new variant.

Really shocking how many people want to ignore the science and think they know better.

Excilente · 05/04/2021 12:18

the thing is, if you have kids at school, you ought to be testing twice weekly as it is.

If i did a test Saturday night that said negative, and my kids were negative, why the fuck shouldn't we feel free to bend the rules a little? To stand in my vaccinated, also testing, Brothers kitchen for a chat?

What risk are we to each other when we're testing regularly, negative, and vaccinated?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 05/04/2021 12:20

I do wonder what all the martyrs will cling on to next once all the hand wringing about ‘but covvviiiddddd’ is at an end.

Never did I expect some people to be so thrilled about cocooning themselves within their homes, never seeing extended family and regarding a trip to the local supermarket or nipping to the post office on the bus as such a risky thing to do it will probably result in them dying of covid.

ilovesooty · 05/04/2021 12:21

@Cowbells

Outside of MN I don't think many people have, to be honest. The vast majority of people I know have been meeting up indoors for months now.

@sunflowersandbuttercups - really? I don't know anyone who has, apart from DBrother who lives in a remote corner of UK and has 'bubbled' with three sets of people so has had lots of dinners and parties with them throughout. Everyone else i know has been alone or shivering on walks and in gardens, including all teens.

I don't know anyone who has either, thankfully.
KatherineJaneway · 05/04/2021 12:21

You can't control what they do. They are making their own risk assessments and making choices you disagree with.

ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2021 12:22

The lame excuse might actually be the law @chaosrabbitland. You are not meant to be mixing indoors.

Why can’t people actually wait until the guidance changes?

Viruses mutate. That's what they do, and nothing we do can stop that. In some cases it's actually beneficial as viruses are not clever, they aren't sitting down and planning out their next move and so sometimes, viruses mutate into less harmful forms. The vaccines can be adapted to cope. It's what we do with the flu jab every year.

The fact is, cases in the UK are now massively decreased to what we have seen and half of the population is now vaccinated. Continuing an unjustifiable lockdown means more livihoods being lost and more people suffering due to not getting the care they need for anything that isn't COVID.

Lbnc2021 · 05/04/2021 12:22

Good for them, hope they’re enjoying themselves again Smile

Alsohuman · 05/04/2021 12:23

@JinglingHellsBells

You do know this is bollocks, don’t you?

So you are a scientific expert on virus and transmission?

No. Nor are you or anyone else posting on this thread. I am capable of absorbing and analysing information though. Which is more than the pp who posted that bollocks appears to be.
Lassolarry1980 · 05/04/2021 12:24

I’m just curious about what the heck they’re doing in London?! (Looking for ideas!)

TheKeatingFive · 05/04/2021 12:24

A lot of posters here are forgetting about the new variants which are emerging all the time.

These variants will be emerging until we’ve the whole world vaccinated, which will take years. So I’m not sure what difference that makes?

raincamepouringdown · 05/04/2021 12:25

Most people have done their bit thru the lockdowns...many are now double vaccinated and wanting to start their lives again.....don’t really think they are selfish.....if you don’t want to mix with them you don’t have to

Rubbish. I've done my bit as well and I have no choice but to mix with a lot of these families via their children as I'm in a school. I have not missed a day out through any of this and have been their to keep kw and vulnerable children in school throughout lockdowns and my regular class through the other periods. It's infuriating to see parents and grandparents and friends disregarding all the rules 'because their children are in school' because it has ended up coming in via the children.

Lassolarry1980 · 05/04/2021 12:25

But they’ll be vaccinated against existing variants Not new variants

So we accept the situation and start living

Finger crossed for holidays ASAP in the announcement!!

ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2021 12:27

And most of us aren’t enjoying this @SmidgenofaPigeon, but want to do their bit to ensure this virus can be contained.

My son is in Y11 and it has been a horrible year for him, but I would rather people stuck to the rules so bubbles didn’t have to keep bursting in schools to give kids a chance that they can finally have some proper time in school.

TristantheTyrannosaurus · 05/04/2021 12:28

Carry on doing your bit then. Others are done in with it. That's life.

millenialblush · 05/04/2021 12:28

New variants ffs. Using that as an argument to stay at home means we could be in lockdown forever.

ilovesooty · 05/04/2021 12:31

@Chloemol

Same old same old on here all the posters saying no problems, good for them, I do it as well

No wonder it’s taken so long to get to where we are. Why can’t people just hold off for a few more weeks to allow the vaccination programme to finish?

Don’t forget even with the jab you can still transmit it, and still catch it albeit with a much reduced rate

Why take the chance of being a carrier and passing it onto those who have not been vaccinated

Some selfish people around, it’s all me, me me

Agreed. And a mocking tone is developing on here towards people who are keeping to the rules and the guidance. It's really unpleasant.
FireflyRainbow · 05/04/2021 12:31

My relatives are out and about even though they were really unwell last week and still have coughs. They haven't tested themselves as it's just a cold apparently. Their bubbles has still been visiting them and going to work etc. Annoying....

Mine have been in since January and never tested once.
katy1213 · 05/04/2021 12:32

There will always be 'new variants' because it's a bloody virus. Viruses mutate.

People who trot this line out pay far too much notice of sensationalist journalism.

Lovemusic33 · 05/04/2021 12:36

Social media has been full of people moaning about people doing ‘what we are allowed to do’ over the Easter weekend, I have seen people moaning about people sitting down outside to have a drink with friends, people moaning about people playing football without wearing masks, people mixing in gardens and people going to the coast. The covid police are out in force.

I don’t think people seem to get the situation, covid isn’t going to just disappear but people are being vaccinated, the vulnerable are vaccinated, more than half the adult population are vaccinated (with the first vaccine), deaths have decreased but people are still getting covid, we need to learn to live with it. Are people really suggesting that we all social distance until covid is gone? Because that will never happen. Life needs to go on, people need to see their friends and family, shops need to open, kids need to be able to play with their friends.

Stop moaning about people living their lives, we can’t all stay at home forever, life needs to go on.

ineedaholidaynow · 05/04/2021 12:37

Or maybe @katy1213 they can see them when the law/guidance changes.

Do you say good for them if someone decides they think the drink driving laws are a bit draconian so have one more drink for the road. Or someone who thinks bananas are too expensive so hide a few at the bottom of their shopping basket and don’t pay for them.
