Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Summergirl76 · 04/04/2021 22:16

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

Thanks Fox luckily I screen shot the page so have the info

I’m feeling really good now! So nice to be moving on.

KatherineJaneway · 13/04/2021 13:38

@Silkiescat

If you go back in and go to 'Manage my appointments' you can go back in and see if they have taken. I booked mine last night and had no email and no text but I had my jab today.

LacyEdge · 13/04/2021 13:40

Just tried to book at my preferred nearby venue and the slot was gone in the 0.5 seconds it took me to click it. Grin This is like trying to get Glastonbury tickets.

MsRinky · 13/04/2021 13:49

@LacyEdge He went to the Moulton Park site in Northampton, which was the only one showing as available although we have at least three sites in Milton Keynes.

Frazzled2207 · 13/04/2021 13:52
**@Frazzled2207* - I think* once they’re both booked, you can then go in and manage your bookings with your reference numbers. But I’m not 100% sure how it would work re amending second appointment.
ok good. Seems a bit weird committing to a date 3 months in advance. Pencilling it in fine. So many things could happen before then.

That all said I can imagine logistically far easier for the NHS if we book both together.

Furries · 13/04/2021 14:01

@Frazzled2207 - yes, especially after so long in lockdown, definitely feels weird committing to a date 3 months away. It obviously makes a huge difference in managing the supply chain, I’m still so impressed with the rollout.

I’d go so far as to say that, even if Mr Clooney himself contacted me in the next few weeks with a dinner date that clashed with second appointment, he would be very happily turned down 😂

buckleten · 13/04/2021 14:03

Had mine now, moderna, and the whole experience was great - no queues at all!

YoutubeZoom · 13/04/2021 14:08

@MarshaBradyo

If you booked and asked for confirmation by mobile / email was it immediate or some time after?
DH had confirmation, I didn't. But I checked my booking number (managing your appointment) and it is in the system.
WombatChocolate · 13/04/2021 14:09

In the early stages of a new phase of rollout, you often have 2 choices....get an appointment sooner and travel some distance.....or wait a while (might not be long but could be several weeks) and get a closer appointment. This isn’t always the case, because some people get invited by their Gp to a local service before the national site makes them eligible or some people have national booking sites close to them anyway, but as a general principle, it applies to most.

Those on this thread over the last weeks were desperate to get jabbed. They’d been watching and waiting for weeks. They booked last night or first thing this morning and were glad to take any slots they could get and to travel if needed. Lots had to take a 2nd slot elsewhere and some distance in order to get 2 slots and to get the first in the next couple of days.

And now they are booked and have a bird in the hand rather than 2 in a bush. The local offer might come soon, or it could take a while and we all know supply isn’t guaranteed.

I’m still surprised to read people saying they’re disappointed by the need to travel a distance or that their local centre hasn’t popped up today, on the first official day of vaccines being open to 45+. However, I probably shouldn’t be surprised. Those who were really keen have booked now and taken wherever was available. I forget that lots of people haven’t been so desperate or tracking the vaccine and have just found themselves on these threads for the first time today an actually convenience is as important to them as having the jab quickly. Lots would rather wait another 2 or 3 weeks and not have to travel 25 miles to somewhere they are unfamiliar with. Fair enough. The system is set up for all groups.

More sites are being added all the time and people are reporting that looking a few hours later has sometimes meant closer sites are available. Or they also report that only further away sites are available after a few hours, or only appointments another week into the future are available. You take your chances don’t you and either book what’s available right now and can be sure you’ve got it, or you can hope for nearer or more convenient, but not be sure it will be available very soon and that what’s available right now might be gone when you look later.

Wonderful that so many have been able to book and even done already. Love it!

EasterIssland · 13/04/2021 14:21

ive to say to that yesterday many found spaces near their home, I live in a big city and we've I think 6 places to get the vaccines, this morning some of my colleagues where struggling to find a place in town and have to go 20miles away. Which I know is not much, but wonder whether many of the places were taking yesterday and early this morning before the major announcement so many people that have came to know about it later today have to take whatever is available or wait.

As I'm on this thread (and many other) and I try it 1000 times a day for my husband I'm hoping we find a space for him close to our house rather than needing to drive far. He's 43 so hoping not long to wait

We're meant to go on the 15th July to Spain, so f it's 10 weeks then we'll be able to make it for booking for him. If not tbh I'm not sure whether to delay the holiday so he gets his 2ndd jab before flying, we're going to visit my family so accommodation wouldn't be a problem

Iknowtheanswer · 13/04/2021 14:39

Managed to book late last night in the end. Dh had his jab this morning, mine is later this week. Local centre near my office, so all good in the end.

Archiduchesse · 13/04/2021 14:44

For those that were asking people to report back:

Age 48, booked online last night to have done in a local pharmacy today. Had AZ vaccine. Had a bit of a wait but that's because the pharmacy were only told this morning that it was opened up to under fifties and so didn't have enough vaccinators for the number of appointments. Felt very sorry for the poor staff who were doing an exceptional job but unfortunately having to deal with some unpleasant people aggressively complaining about the wait. Will feel a little happier going back to work (school) next week now.

sleepwouldbenice · 13/04/2021 15:12

Lovely hearing it's finally happening!
On a side note, my husband wants to change his second online appt as he might be away, but doesn't want to lose it if there is nothing better
Does anyone know if you have to cancel before rebooking or can you see alternatives before changing please

EasterIssland · 13/04/2021 15:14

I wanted to change the location and I cant unless ii cancel it. maybe on the phone they can do it
LacyEdge · 13/04/2021 15:30

I will take what’s given, but so far all my slots have been automatically cancelled because of a lack of second slots. Tried saying no to the “Do you want the 2nd at the same site?” but it cancels it just the same. Then again, it’s gone back to saying I didn’t turn up for my first appointment (not true) so presume it’s glitchy again.

SavingsQuestions · 13/04/2021 15:34

Lacy its because there isn't availability for the second jab and you need to be able to book both 11 weeks apart.

We got one by choosing a different venue for first booking (and hence a different date.)

SavingsQuestions · 13/04/2021 15:35

So its not "glitchy" it literally won't let you book the first unless they can guarantee availability for the second.

SavingsQuestions · 13/04/2021 15:37

You need to cancel completely to change anything.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 13/04/2021 15:44

Booked for this weekend, so happy Smile

LacyEdge · 13/04/2021 15:47

Thanks @SavingsQuestions. Literally none of the venues I’ve tried will let me get a second, so in that case I guess it’s just because it’s SuperTuesday and all GenX people are booking simultaneously Grin Ah well. One will turn up.

LacyEdge · 13/04/2021 15:48

And the “glitchy” comment was because it keeps telling me I didn’t turn up for my first appointment, when I’ve never had one. I gather others have got this message a few times today when the site has been swamped.

MRex · 13/04/2021 15:56

Try calling 119, they might have an idea for how to book you so you can switch second dose location later.

Are you
buckleten · 13/04/2021 16:22

I'm 48, they were giving it to everyone (Madejski stadium Reading)

Butterflyfluff · 13/04/2021 16:23

I wanted to change the location and I cant unless ii cancel it. maybe on the phone they can do it

As someone else said, you need to completely cancel to make any changes - they can’t do anything over the phone to change this - you also can’t guarantee there will be any availability when you try and re-book. It warns you of this before you cancel online

Having said that, we took the plunge in cancelling my husband’s 2nd one and rebooked elsewhere OK

Very glad I saw this thread though - I’m booked for tomorrow now 👍

Thank you all
