Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Summergirl76 · 04/04/2021 22:16

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

CallforHeCate, look at the Sky News site and the pages about vaccine rollout. Half way down is a table with the data and you can run through it in order or search for local areas.

Boredsillyathome · 13/04/2021 10:18

This is prob a really obvs question but on the NHS website can you book your first vaccination without a date for your second?

WombatChocolate · 13/04/2021 10:19

User, that’s good that some more local sites have appeared for you.

I assume they are still those in national system rather than GP led services which use different booking systems.....unless they are moving to using the national system too, but I don’t think so.

Silkiescat · 13/04/2021 10:19

Yes you have to be able to cancel current one to see others but can't do that without a booking reference which I haven't got. I should have been group 6 but medical records aren't right but on other hand DH got his before he should as his was also wrongly classified but at least its going really fast and I can stay in. I don't drive though but DH can take me. No idea whether either place is.

Silkiescat · 13/04/2021 10:20

It wouldn't let me just book a first this morning, it cancelled my first when it said no second available.

No you have to book both appointments on main NHS site

KatherineJaneway · 13/04/2021 10:31

Poppy, I think you’re right. I think your GP practice is a bit ahead of curve. The BBC site is now saying that GP led services will soon start sending out invites to local vaccine centres to 48s and 49s.

I'm 49 and just received a text from my GP surgery giving me a link to book. I booked last night for today so I'll let them know that.

Boredsillyathome · 13/04/2021 10:33

@BentBastard thanks!

Scootergrrrl · 13/04/2021 10:33

In case it helps, we managed to book both of ours by asking to go to a different centre for the second dose. All booked now, thank goodness!

KatherineJaneway · 13/04/2021 10:38

@Boredsillyathome

No I don't think you can. When you book you pick a date for your first then straight after a date for your second. Others on the thread couldn't complete the booking if a second date wasn't available.

BentBastard · 13/04/2021 10:39

It's all quite a faff as you have to book first without knowing availability of suitability of second dose appointments so if there isn't anything available or suitable you have to reverse back to the start again and start from scratch. Set a bit of time aside for it.

nearlyhomealone · 13/04/2021 10:39

Thanks to this thread, I booked last night and have just had the vaccine. There was a bit of confusion at the vaccine centre as they had me down as a carer, I wondered if it was to do with the website not updating fully to allow the under 40s login. Anyway I’m very happy 😀

MRex · 13/04/2021 10:51

DBIL wasn't sure if his booking went through because of the website crashing, turned up and they said it hadn't but they jabbed him anyway. Sounded like it was a bit of a party atmosphere with all the excited 45-49ers.

WombatChocolate · 13/04/2021 10:55

Funny old thing isn’t it. I wonder how they arrange the right number of staff and jabs for today, when people could only book the appointments from teatime last night, but you can’t book for the same day as you are doing the booking?

Do some places have far too many staff just sitting there, or do they only get confirmation that they are needed on the morning?

Hard to imagine how it works when things are often so short notice.

I find it amazing though that people who yesterday at this time thought they might be waiting weeks still are jabbed by 9.05am today. Wonderful!

RedMarauder · 13/04/2021 10:57

@MRex If he booked yesterday for today or in the early morning for today, there would have been loads of unfilled appointments for the morning in some vaccine centres.

TokyoSushi · 13/04/2021 10:59

If anybody is in the NW, I hear from an excellent source that St Helens Rugby ground has the Moderna vaccine if that's what people would like.

This is such a heartwarming thread, unfortunately, I'm still 41 but eagerly awaiting along with lots of friends!

MRex · 13/04/2021 11:01

He couldn't get through last night, tried again at 6am and got slots but it crashed, think he got down there at opening time. They said he could have Moderna tomorrow or AZ today so he went with AZ today as not much difference and gets it done.

Frazzled2207 · 13/04/2021 11:02

Dh and I are 42, I am sorted myself but just so excited about getting an appointment for DH (and all our similar aged friends) very soon.

Ditto Etihad. However I would caution people (I'm a vaccination volunteer) that though 20 sites in England will have Moderna this week, it definitely does not follow that they will have it for all appointments for the forseeable.

My DPs are having their second jab there this week and having Pfizer.

I’ll take what I get tbh.

Furries · 13/04/2021 11:14

48 and booked this morning - first jab Saturday, second beginning of July (North Essex).

Just a quick pointer for those who may be taking the decision to wait a for GP to contact you for an appointment (ie, if large hubs are too far away for you, or you don’t drive). At a recent routine injection appointment at my surgery, I asked the nurse how they were getting on with jabs. Apparently, our small village surgery aren’t doing them - they are only doing people who are housebound. I’m sure this is fairly unusual, but just worth bearing in mind. If a friend of mine couldn’t drive, I’d happily take them to a hub an hour a way!

Silkiescat · 13/04/2021 11:22

Ours is the same, I don't drive and only offered an hour away but DH does so he will take me. The GPs is only for the absolutely essential/very high risk and even then its not our GPs but another 20 mins drive away.

User27aw · 13/04/2021 11:27

@frazzled2207

I booked for the Madejski stadium as the Kassam stadium wasnt available to book.
Looks like that is where the Moderna will be hopefully. As long as it hasnt run out by my appointment tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip!

ConnieDobbs · 13/04/2021 12:03

I'm 42 and it wouldn't let me book (I also have health conditions so I thought it was worth a try). Then I logged into facebook and straight away it suggested that I add a frame to my profile picture saying that I have had my covid vaccination. If only!

Boredsillyathome · 13/04/2021 12:14

After a bit of faffing around this morning I've got mine booked for Monday and second one for July, I've just turned 46 really pleased to be getting it
