Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Summergirl76 · 04/04/2021 22:16

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

I got my inlaws booked on when they were eligible but still waiting for the letter, thanks to a previous mn thread.

Definitely the first place to check!

@Newname9

Dh 45 (last week) and says not eligible!
My just turned 50 friend had to wait a week before it opened up for her last month. Keep trying.
WombatChocolate · 13/04/2021 09:03

If people are 45+ and the system won’t let let you book, I’d phone 119. They are using the same system, but hopefully can book you in. If you’re not registered quite correctly with the GP that will be why the system cannot recognise you...ie name spelling is incorrect.

In all likelihood they will then refer you to ring GP, but at least then you’re calling based on an instruction.

@QpopTYUIop9

I just went on and could see my bookings. Still no text or email but they are there.

Comefromaway · 13/04/2021 09:08

I’ve just been woken up by Ds excitedly telling me I can book, bless him. His dad and sister have already had their first dose as carers.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/04/2021 09:08

I’ve got my friend booked in thanks to this thread.

zen1 · 13/04/2021 09:18

Got my DB to book, but can’t book DH who is the same age. It seems to depend on your postcode as to whether you can make a booking. DB is in a different part of the country.

poppycat10 · 13/04/2021 09:26

I agree this is the most useful MN thread ever, along with the one that alerted me when bookings opened for 55-59 year olds and I was able to book DH in.

The system says two different things if they have found you and you are not yet eligible it says that (so no point phoning 119, if it says not eligible it has identified you).

If you have the wrong name/spelling it says "could not identify you"

I tried DH with his shortened first name yesterday when it said "not eligible" on his full name, it said "not identified"

AnneofScreamFables · 13/04/2021 09:32

When you book do you get a choice of places, or does it just allocate you one?

UserTwice · 13/04/2021 09:35

You get a choice of places. It tells you the places that are available nearest to the postcode you enter. For me, at the moment there is nowhere within a distance that I would consider reasonable to travel. So I suspect appointment times haven't been loaded into the system yet at my more local centres.

Rollergirl11 · 13/04/2021 09:35

@AnneofScreamFables I’ve just booked for DH just now. I got a list of places with closest showing first. Still not as close as any being offered by the GO hubs but it still under 10 miles away.

Frazzled2207 · 13/04/2021 09:36

In terms of where Moderna is being offered, apparently includes Reading Madejski Stadium and Sheffield Arena according to reuters. There will be about 20 places in England offering (see my earlier posts), all large sites.

WombatChocolate · 13/04/2021 09:38

I was just looking at the Sky News page which shows the proportion of over 50s for each area to have been jabbed already, along with the proportion of under 50s.

Almost all areas apart from LOndon brought have done well over 90% of over 50s with most having done well over 95%. That’s amazing I think. Suggests hesitancy has fallen a lot.

Even more interesting is how high figures for under 50s already are. Pretty much all areas seem to have done over 20% with most around 30% and some as high as 40%. Given this is all under 50s and not just 40s it suggests very large proportions of 40s alre already done in lots of areas....which is what lots of people thought. Might mean this rollout to over 45s can be done quickly and the next group of 40-45 won’t be far behind....depending on supply of course.

Yesterday it was being discussed whether rollout had been pushed more with younger groups that had lower take-up. The figures do support that, apart from in London. Those areas which have already reached the high 30%S for under 50s jabs are often in areas with slightly lower take up and in areas more likely to be less affluent. It does look very much like it’s been more managed and less random than we might have thought.

I wonder if the rollout to 45+ is happening now because there is more supply (fact GPs told no new delivery for 2 weeks suggests not) or simply because they have to as the date for saying all 50+ jabbed already meant further rollout necessary, or just possible because actually the numbers of 45+ still to be done are smaller and more manageable than we might have thought.

It does look like these new 45+ appointments for first doses are all via the mass centres and not GP led hubs. Perhaps with less supply it makes sense to concentrate it in fewer locations and run large clinics rather than lots of tiny ones, especially as this is an age group who can certainly travel. There are still charities taking anyone who hasn’t got transport and can’t use public transport or taxi.

I’m particularly interested in how many jabs seem to have been available for today. Given people cannot book on the day itself, if MN and other sites hadn’t flagged the system was taking 45+ last night leading to lots of bookings, would these slots have been wasted? I guess the vaccine does last several days or longer, so perhaps it would have just been more given in coming days.

All very interesting anyway and so lovely to see so many people delighted and shocked to suddenly be booked....and some will already be done. There were people booking last night for 9am jabs! Hope they got a sticker.

Ceara · 13/04/2021 09:39

Yes thank you for this thread, agree it's the most useful ever! Got DH booked in last night for this morning at our local pharmacy, and mine for next week. (There was nothing local for me and I initially decided to wait, but DH talked me down, and I booked one slightly further away - a bird in the hand etc.) Solidarity with those who can't book yet.

BobBobBobbing · 13/04/2021 09:39

Aargh so close but yet so far. I'm trying to book DH's but every time I get to the end I'm told either the appointment slot has gone or there's no second vaccine slot available. Sad

WombatChocolate · 13/04/2021 09:41

User, it seems GP local led services are not doing this first jab phase of rollout to over 45s but the mass hubs. That might well mean you either have to travel, or wait some considerable time for GPs to follow up those eligible who don’t book that way.

GP clinics seem to be offering 2nd jabs.

They will eventually get to those who won’t travel or book via national system but it will take a while. Depends if you’re very keen to be jabbed. Any chance of friends or family taking you if transport is tricky, and there are lots of charities still organising lifts if it will help you.

EasterIssland · 13/04/2021 09:42

@WombatChocolate I can't find the map in sky news, do you have a link? thanks!

poppycat10 · 13/04/2021 09:42

I don't know, I couldn't get on the NHS website yesterday, it was saying I wasn't eligible, yet then I received a text from the GP inviting me to book through them. It could have been completely unrelated (ie they have some stock left over this week so decided to invite 49 year olds) but either way I'm going via the GP.

Aposterhasnoname · 13/04/2021 09:43

You can choose from quite a long list of options/dates
RedToothBrush · 13/04/2021 09:44

When i looked at the data yesterday, its definitely being managed on age level and on a geographical level.

To get the best/quickest herd immunity you have to consider geography as well as age. See the thread i linked to earlier on the thread about this.

Those areas which have the highest levels of under 50s done are definitely areas where the population age is far lower than elsewhere / uptake in higher age groups has been lower.

Otherwise it looks remarkably fair and consistent with only uptake issues in the London area.

It surprised me. In a good way.

Archiduchesse · 13/04/2021 09:45

@WombatChocolate I am 48 and booked online last night. Having my jab this afternoon. I had several location options come up but they were all in local pharmacies - no big vaccination centres.

AdventureIsWaiting · 13/04/2021 09:46

For those who haven't received an email or text yet - DH called 119 as the website crashed as he put his contact details in; they said the email / text alert is very slow to arrive and could take several hours so not to worry. His appointments were all showing on their system.

If you are in any doubt as to whether you are booked, if you try and restart the booking it should ask for your 'booking reference' even if you use the booking from scratch link (rather than manage booking).

EmmaStone · 13/04/2021 09:46

DH and I eventually managed to get ours booked, but had problems with site crashing as PP, and then are having to travel (we live near Bristol, DH having to go to Weymouth for his first, for his second and all of mine, it's Weston-super-Mare). Don't suppose there's a way of checking back to se if other closer appointments get released? We just want to be jabbed asap, so will do the travel, but of course, if we could re-book for Bristol, that would be easier (Bristol slots just disappeared before our eyes in between site crashes)..
