@Wakeupin2022

Fly I believe AZ grossly overestimated. And really they do need to explain that to the EU.

But that has nothing to do with the UK.

I would actually like the UK to help out the EU if it could. And let's not kid on, vaccinating EU would benefit us more.

But I just can't see past the behaviour of the EU on this one (usually a fan).

On a plus side I see Germany did over 700k vaccines yesterday.

That is amazing (France & Spain doing pretty good too). And will benefit all of us.

It does seem to be constant delays.

Its the cheapest jab, could be kept at normal temperature its no wonder its popular.
I think EU really thought they would have Sanofi or curevac online by now.

Has Johnson and Johnson actually been shipped and administered to eu members states yet?
As this article Implies america is shipping doses to EU yet I thought they were were manufactured Switzerland and bottled in Spain .

Has Germany really said yes to sputnik.
The Russians say thymey have developed 3 vaccines.
The fact they won't release much data to ema is worrying.
Also some members states have high levels of south African or Brazilian varient and we don't know the efficiency of the Russian one with the new varients.

EasterIssland · 10/04/2021 07:16

Spain is getting their first lot of j&j this week. I guess most of the estates will get theirs this week or so as well

Does Johnson jab stay approved whilst they investigate it-has it actually been approved?

EasterIssland · 10/04/2021 07:35

It’s been approved in the Eu. And yes I take irs approved whilst there is an investigation same thing happened with the allergy reaction to pfizer or the clots with az

Well really it shouldn't be since the precautionary principle is so important over there and suspending AZ was not at all political............

So I expect lots of suspensions this weekend.

Or pigs might fly.........

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 09:16

It would be interesting to see if safety concerns are handled similarly to those over AZ but generously we could say that maybe they've learned their lesson rather than not being even handed?

MrsFezziwig · 10/04/2021 11:31

“I won’t suggest to the prime minister that he says thank you – that’s not my role,” he said. “But maybe a little signal to the women and men now working night and day in 53 factories across Europe to help supply the UK would be welcome.”

Nice try, Thierry (and I’m as pro EU as they come, and just want everyone who wishes to be vaccinated as quickly as possible).

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 11:52

That’s so weasel like. They’re so cheap

Who is "they?" The EU/EMA never suspended AZ, not partially or fully, just that the clotting issue should be listed as a possible side effect.

Independent countries around the world have done that.... inc the UK but let that little detail get in the way of another slagging off of the EU.

Baileysforchristmas · 10/04/2021 12:05

@MrsFezziwig the EU just keep digging a bigger whole, why not just keep quiet and get in with vaccinating 🤷‍♀️

Because administering the vaccine isn't "the EU's" job..but you know that don't you?...don't you???

Wakeupin2022 · 10/04/2021 12:33

not

Is it you that's based in Denmark?

What do you think will happen in Denmark with J&J?

It's clear there are most likely similar issues to AZ - same type of vaccine.

Do you think the same steps will be taken? Is AZ approved for us in Denmark at this time?

Jasjas you object to the EU being slagged off so I’m very surprised to read upthread that you aren’t a regular on the Westminsterenders threads.
Surely they’d be right up your street since they are anti Britain, anti Tory and anti Brexit with no dissent allowed.

Baileysforchristmas · 10/04/2021 17:21

My parents and parents in law have both had their 2nd vaccine, i’m so relieved, 8 million have now had the 2nd jab, such good news 😊

No not Denmark, Wake, no idea what's going on there.

Meanwhile the French national system administered 510,000 vaccinations yesterday....

I know that the NHS has very much to to it's credit had better days, and the French figures fluctuate widely on a daily basis but comments along the line that "the EU" aren't getting jabs into arms just demonstrates that some posters lack some knowledge of what's actually going on in Europe (yet again).

FWIW the French have made themselves hostage to fortune by having a stated aim of 10 million a month for the next two months plus, the infrastructure (finally) seems to be in place, it's now all down to supply.

Baileysforchristmas · 10/04/2021 17:55

This is relief to hear, fingers crossed MHRA approve Novavavax.

www.theguardian.com/world/2021/apr/10/global-covid-vaccine-rollout-threatened-by-shortage-of-vital-components

Stan Erck, the chief executive of Novavax – which makes the second vaccine to be grown and bottled entirely in Britain – told the Observer that the shortage of 2,000-litre bags in which the vaccine cells were grown was a significant hurdle for global supply.

His warning came as bag manufacturers revealed that some pharmaceutical firms were waiting up to 12 months for the sterile single-use disposable plastic containers, which are used to make medicines of all kinds, including the Pfizer, Moderna and Novavax Covid-19 vaccines .

But Erck and his British partners said they were confident they had enough suppliers to avoid disruption to the supply of Novavax. The vaccine is waiting for approval from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) but the first of 60 million doses ordered by the government are already in production in Teesside.

Fantastic news. This is the kind of thing we want to be hearing. :)

yellowspanner · 10/04/2021 17:58

JasJas what does "regular" poster mean.
Both Germany and France did suspend the AZ/oxford vaccine.

Interesting they they have sites in EU but haven't signed contract with them yet.
SunnyLovesCassie · 10/04/2021 20:08

As I have said several times Best Efforts in Belgian law doesn't mean they just have to try. Also the non conflicting contract clause several posters have mentioned....it's a clause that says if EU enters into a contract that negatively affects AZ they cannot be held in breach. This is meant in the sense that if EU signs another contract and this means all the raw materials/syringes/glass vials are not available etc....

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 10/04/2021 20:19

Making vaccines isn't straightforward, so all recipients should be understanding if they don't get orders in the quantity/timeframe expected. And it's to be expected that a manufacturer will prioritize the customer who's put the most investment in and who hasn't waived their right to sue. Important to remember that AZ is a not for profit vaccine.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 20:26

Yay for another one ready to roll out in UK.

Yes 500,000 is good news even if very late in the day and not up in the numbers it needs to be. It's the right direction at least.

TheHoneyBadger · 10/04/2021 20:29

Good news that Nova is grown through to bottled here so we haven't paid for it and the factory renovations only to have the product commandeered by the EU. I presume we've made good contracts with them and acted proactively on that vaccine too - it really has paid off investing in lots of different pots early on.

notimagain · 10/04/2021 22:15

In other news - following lots of noise from some sources about German efforts being in utter disarray for all sorts of reasons it appears they managed to vaccinate 720 000 people on Thursday.

www.theguardian.com/society/2021/apr/10/france-and-germanys-covid-vaccination-programmes-pick-up-speed

Wakeupin2022 · 10/04/2021 22:36

not its good that things are starting to really pick up.

France has been doing well for the last week or so I think and Germany definitely for the last few days.

And I think there are far fewer doses being held back? So agreed, it's not really fair to say that now.

I think there could potentially be some problems long term with AZ but there is more than enough people want it now.

And supplies in Q2 are a lot better in the continent than UK.

We've already seen the difference vaccination has made in the UK and in France, I think the deaths have been lower than they would otherwise have been. Italy sadly has made unwise choices. I am also glad the JVCI really stuck to their guns here. And I think it was the same in France, also against stiff opposition.

I know a fair few people in France so I am pleased they are progressing so well now.
