Your position on Covid lockdowns

kellehi · 28/03/2021 20:48

Well, I have seen a lot of people on here changing as the wind blows and the government continues to move the goalposts with respect to lockdowns, and so the same happens here. So just wondering what your position on this will be in the future, if X happens.

Please start your post with the relevant number below, you can expand on this if you want, but not necessary.

1 - we should end the lockdown and open things up now.
2 - we should open up as originally promised on 21 June, regardless of the government position
3 - we should end the lockdown and open things up when everyone over 18 who wants a vaccine can have one
4 - we should end the lockdown and open things up when adults are vaccinated
5 - we should end the lockdown and open things up when every person including adults and children are vaccinated
6 - I think some element of lockdown should continue indefinitely whenever the government says it's required, even if it means years waiting.

Thanks

5 i think

I say i think because im not sure what the medicine/science us behind children being vaccinated

One thing i know - we cant stay in lockdown forever

Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/03/2021 21:04

I'm in between 2 and 3.

I think if hospital rates allow it, we should open as planned on 21st June. I don't think we should wait until all adults are vaccinated to open up. And I include myself in that as I'm 30 so second to last in line for the vaccine after the 20 somethings.

If hospital rates were very high and the NHS was being overwhelmed then we shouldn't just open up on June 21st. That should be the deciding factor really.

  1. The government’s timetable is cautious & sensible.
ZiggyBaby · 28/03/2021 21:07

2, though I wouldn't complain about 1 either.

Quaagars · 28/03/2021 21:09
dividedwefall · 28/03/2021 21:10

1 or 2. I'd rather 1 but I accept 2.

Quartz2208 · 28/03/2021 21:10

2/3

With 3 really relating to where we are with borders and international travel

I think that children are a difficult one as I think allowing them to build up immunity over time is also a good way out of this. I am happy to get the vaccine when it opens up to my group (over 40s) but I am not sure about my children.

And we need to remember lockdowns are about overwhelming the infrastructure of the NHS not eradicating it as I dont think we would either

WithTeaTree · 28/03/2021 21:11

2, although if it was 1 I’d be fine with it.

Dancingalong · 28/03/2021 21:13

2 but would be fine with 1

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 28/03/2021 21:14

Who is paying you to do this?

You appear to have missed out the option of opening up as per the route map, but ONLY if we genuinely meet the criteria at each stage. NOT just on set dates.

Howyoualldoworkme · 28/03/2021 21:14

1 but I'd be happy with 2

Delatron · 28/03/2021 21:14

A kind of 1.5.
I just want to see my parents who live hundreds of miles away. I think June 21st is too cautious. Every day in lockdown is costing huge amounts in so many areas.
I don’t think large indoor concerts should go ahead but I think families should mix indoors from Easter and I think shops should be open now basically. Kids outdoor sports should have started weeks ago.

So a more nuanced approach than ‘just open everything now’.

  1. We should end lockdown when its safe to do so, and should recognise that things may change, and if cases increase more restrictions may be needed.
lljkk · 28/03/2021 21:17

position? Sheesh. I'd be happy with 1. 6 is actual policy. It doesn't matter what I want.

  1. The highest risk demographics are now significantly protected by 1 and often 2 doses of the vaccine. This has achieved the mission of protecting the NHS.

If we want to sort the NHS out and get it catching up on a year of backlogs, it needs funding from taxes in a functioning economy. We can not "save the NHS" long term by locking down and all the social and health ills that that causes.

We have now spent a year compromising many of our human rights such as the right to a family life, freedom of association and access to education. We need to live again. Live, not vacuously exist in what is not suspended animation.

We've now reached the demographics in the vaccination programme where the greater risk to life is not from Covid, but from the impacts of lockdown.

Toottootdrivers · 28/03/2021 21:23

I think 2 but with no international travel this summer

Covidatemyhomework · 28/03/2021 21:24

3 providing no variants that are vaccine reostatnt have emerged

WithTeaTree · 28/03/2021 21:26

@Toottootdrivers

I think 2 but with no international travel this summer
True, when I say 2 I mean opening up domestically. I think people need to be realistic about international travel for the time being.
