Your position on Covid lockdowns

kellehi · 28/03/2021 20:48

Well, I have seen a lot of people on here changing as the wind blows and the government continues to move the goalposts with respect to lockdowns, and so the same happens here. So just wondering what your position on this will be in the future, if X happens.

Please start your post with the relevant number below, you can expand on this if you want, but not necessary.

1 - we should end the lockdown and open things up now.
2 - we should open up as originally promised on 21 June, regardless of the government position
3 - we should end the lockdown and open things up when everyone over 18 who wants a vaccine can have one
4 - we should end the lockdown and open things up when adults are vaccinated
5 - we should end the lockdown and open things up when every person including adults and children are vaccinated
6 - I think some element of lockdown should continue indefinitely whenever the government says it's required, even if it means years waiting.

Thanks

Hidden option 10 please, strict lockdown forevermore. Welded doors etc.

Sparrowcrane · 29/03/2021 07:56

1- want 1 but feel in my guts it will be 6 forever more even with the magic potion injections

ILookAtTheFloor · 29/03/2021 08:14

I want option 1, I'd tolerate option 2 but I'll continue to swear and moan about the glacial speed of reopening.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 29/03/2021 09:05

My view is probably closer to 4 than anything.

I think there are some things that should continue beyond 21 June, mainly the wearing of face coverings on public transport and in hospitals and shops, screens at places such as shop tills, and the choice of remote appointments for GPs. I also think that for those who have worked from home, at least the option for two days per week at home should remain.

  1. Definately. We have lost enough already and any benefits of lockdown (if there are any at all) are far outweighed by the negatives which are colossal.
HazeyJaneII · 29/03/2021 09:14

What about...

We should follow the road map, as set out (and if we meet the criteria at each stage of opening up...based on data not dates).
We then assess an ever changing situation with regards to this public health crisis and respond accordingly, in the best way possible.

Not catchy enough?

littlepeas · 29/03/2021 09:15

1 with the caveat that I’d rather we held off travelling abroad for a bit longer. That’s the only thing that makes me a bit twitchy and only because I do not want any more lockdowns.

Delatron · 29/03/2021 09:17

I wonder if some people ignore the colossal effects of lockdown because it’s not impacting them personally that much? How are we in a situation where continual lockdowns are an acceptable strategy long term? They are not and never have been meant to be used in the manner we are using them.

southeastdweller · 29/03/2021 09:20
  1. It’s ridiculous we’re still in lockdown when the NHS is far from being overwhelmed (because that’s why we did it in the first place, right?!).

The facecoverings thing should be revsered.

Those who want to wear them should be advised to wear one which protects themselves, like the N95 or whatever they are called, to allow those who have little interest in piece of cloth to burn theirs.

frozendaisy · 29/03/2021 09:41

Gradual reopening until 3.

See how it goes.

My thoughts exactly.

It was originally stay at home, protect the NHS.

Now its stay at home, do lateral flow tests with 49% accuracy everytime you get a cough, keep the cases high so we can carry on staying at home.

Jo99996 · 29/03/2021 09:44

@MrsHastingslikethebattle its everytime you go out you need a rapid test according to Suffolk County Council. They've put signs up around the place saying "If you need to go out, then make sure you are safe to go out" then there's details on how to get a rapid test.

A year ago, people who suggested that would become a thing were shouted down as tin foil hat hearing conspriacy theorists.

Roonerspismed · 29/03/2021 09:44

We locked down to save the NHS

How the fuck did we end up here a year later?

Roonerspismed · 29/03/2021 09:46

And I will not he getting any bloody tests either. No wonder case numbers are rising - if you search you will find, particularly with a crappy PCR test

bumbleymummy · 29/03/2021 09:50

I think we need to stop focussing on case numbers. We are testing more and picking up asymptomatic/mild cases that will not have any impact on the hospitals. We need to keep an eye on hospital numbers and otherwise just get on with it.

I think you mean a crappy LF test
Roonerspismed · 29/03/2021 10:03

No I mean PCR

HazeyJaneII · 29/03/2021 10:03

No one has said that. Lateral flow tests are for people without symptoms.

Cases rising isn't so much the issue, hospitalisation and monitoring new variants, is.

HazeyJaneII · 29/03/2021 10:04

Why would PCR tests, which are used for people with symptoms, crappy?

Roonerspismed · 29/03/2021 10:05

Because they are inaccurate!

PersimmonTree · 29/03/2021 10:12

1., if we're playing fantasy lockdown policy.

With mandatory furlough for all Cabinet ministers while we restructure their jobs, and a blanket 12-month ban on international travel for everyone in government, F1 moguls and everyone else that fucked off to Dubai for no good reason.
