Another 6 months?

I have stuck to the rules and some but if the vaccines start working and lockdown is due to end (allegedly) in June then why do they need this?

OP posts:
JamesAnderson · 25/03/2021 18:56

Just in case? 🤷🏼‍♂️

Moonme · 25/03/2021 18:58

@JamesAnderson I thought that but surely they could just bring in emergency legislation if/when that was needed?

OP posts:
XenoBitch · 25/03/2021 18:58

Just in case there is pressure on the NHS again (which there should not be). I feel you though, OP. It all feels really hopeless with no end in sight.

AnaofBroceliande · 25/03/2021 18:59

We don't.

AlohaMolly · 25/03/2021 19:06

Sorry OP, has something been announced? Could you point me in the right direction?

AlohaMolly · 25/03/2021 19:07

That sounded snarky, I didn’t mean it too, I’ve just been driving home and making dinner and feel like I’ve missed something.

Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:08

Hat Mancock also refused to say whether they would be needed for another six months after. Really not sure I can do this for another year. Was starting to feel positive but this has made me feel a bit shit.
The extension of furlough until September should have been a clear tell but I was being naive I guess...

It's another year at least

Coronavirus Act put in place for two years from the start

These posts confuse me.

Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:12

@AcornAutumn why have they just had to vote to renew the legislation then?

OP posts:
Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:12

Also they said they wouldn't be needed from June...
@AcornAutumn why have they just had to vote to renew the legislation then?
It was two years with a vote to renew every six months

If you don't look at the legislation, what do you look at?

There was no way this was ever going to be less than two years.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 25/03/2021 19:16

I thought two years was quoted pretty much from the start for a pandemic.

It makes sense to have things like thos in place should the path change.

StarCat2020 · 25/03/2021 19:17

Exactly

Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:18

I don't think what you are saying is inline with any of the recent Government 'messaging.' Their own roadmap looks at all measures ending in June.

OP posts:
Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:19

Sorry that was to @AcornAutumn

Don't look at PR fluff or guidelines.
Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:21

I feel angry tonight. Why can't they just be truthful. This started with flatten the cover...just 3 weeks...over by Summer...over by Christmas...done by June... and now another year

OP posts:
Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:21

@AcornAutumn We shouldn't have a Government using PR fluff in a public health crisis

OP posts:
Moonme · 25/03/2021 19:22

I would sum it up as Hoping for the best but expecting the worst

An example I used earlier to someone else was that nobody thought the Titanic would sink so they didn't have enough lifeboats.

If they had been better prepared (more lifeboats) then they would have been able to save more people and if they hadn't needed them it would not have mattered.

Flyonawalk · 25/03/2021 19:26

I am so shocked by this. At least there is a revolt within the Tory party. Perhaps this will be the turning point when people say Enough?

dingit · 25/03/2021 19:28

The case numbers were up today ( from schools). They will use this to extend the lockdown ( roadmap cancelled)

Pyewackect · 25/03/2021 19:29

Because nobody knows for certain and Boris was attacked for over promising last time.

HSHorror · 25/03/2021 19:30

It likely is nearly over.
We will need to be careful until
All adults at leadt vaxxed.
Depending on kids vaxs and strains how it will be next winter.

There are still almost half the population unvaxxed. But some will have had covid too
