When will they start vaccinations on group 10?

Admittedly, I am a little obsessed with the vaccination rollout and CAN'T wait to be vaccinated. I am 46, no underlying conditions and therefore I belong to group 10.
Given there are 32m people in groups 1-9 and we have vaccinated about 28m as of two days ago, do you think the online calculators are reliable saying I should expect to be called anytime from next week?

Please adjust my expectations with more facts!

I think one of the frustrations for the under 50s is that they weren't included in the initial plan at all (groups 1-9) and nothing was really said, which caused a lot of stress. Then that changed, around the time schools were opening (and there was calls for teachers police etc to be vaccinated) to 'don't worry we'll just be going down through the age groups.'

Now that's suddenly disappeared it seems, replaced with 'well what did you expect, we have to do 2nd jabs' and 31st July. If you're 49 like me with kids in school then the difference between a couple of weeks wait and what's now 18 weeks (to 31st July) is the sort of thing that keeps you awake at night. The government needs to give some clarity and dates for the next cohorts.

daisiesinmay · 25/03/2021 11:34

Lucky you mindutopia but my GP has said no under 50s any more, and I know others have encountered this.

Teamox · 25/03/2021 11:37

Meanwhile, sitting here in Ireland jealous of all my UK friends and family (But very very happy for them). My 70 year old FIL (previous heart bypass, daily medication) has no idea when he'll be invited. His 85 year old friend got his last week. No timeline whatsoever for roll out here other than 'we hope to have age 70+ given the first vaccine by the middle of May' and that the CV 'will take some time to identify and invite'.

I can see why people are very very anxious to get it, especially when feeling so close in the 40-49 group, and it's also fantastic that so many want it when the take up in other countries is much lower. But having 50% of the most vulnerable adults having their first vaccine is absolutely amazing, and seems so so far away from being reached here.

The UK is so far ahead and have given good indications of timings and expectations as much as they can with so many unknowns. And still people are complaining. Here, we keep being told that lockdown will not be lifted any time soon, have no indication of when any restrictions might be lifted and a very slow vaccine rollout. To be up to the over 50s plus CV would be an absolute dream.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/03/2021 11:58

daisie I am booked. As I said a few times, just a day or so before the "by" date.

I am 'chill' about it, despite having CSF, only because I have long had to learn to keep my anxiety as low as possible, to prevent my becoming ill, being bed ridden for weeks.

user1471523870 · 25/03/2021 12:04

Does anyone know how to check the vaccinations in each area? Some replies say they are now calling group 10 in some areas as the uptake is good. But I have no idea how to know what's happening where I live...

I don’t think they will properly start group 10 imminently, it was on the news this morning that anyone in group 9 or above should get booked in today as a lot of vaccination centres will be temporarily closing soon because of supplies. And I imagine GP clinics will be busy with second doses from those who had their first in January.
I am resigned to waiting until May, but wish it hadn’t become such a lottery if you are under 50

daisiesinmay · 25/03/2021 12:11

That seems likely Eccle80 What worries me is, because they're not saying anything at all, that come May they might move the goalposts again and we won't even get it then.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/03/2021 12:19

People like me?

Nice!

Floofsquidge · 25/03/2021 12:22

Spare a thought for those who are #AsthmaticsAtRisk who until mid Feb met the criteria for group 6 before the goalposts were moved and now have the prospect of waiting even longer for a vaccination that should have been given in group 6.

The rhetoric about only "mild" asthmatics being removed, and that all vulnerable people have been vaccinated is false and all about hitting targets.

HairyFloppins · 25/03/2021 12:28

DH has just been invited by the GP he is 49. Got it booked for next week.

DiamondBright · 25/03/2021 12:29

I'm group 10, in my 40s and having mine tomorrow.

In my area they've done all the previous groups and chased those who have not responded to the point where they're allowed to move onto group 10 rather than stopping the roll out. There's always going to be some local variation.

poppycat10 · 25/03/2021 12:52

According to the BBC "The reduction in the UK's Covid vaccine supply in April is partly due to a delay in a delivery from India of five million Oxford-AstraZeneca doses".

At the current rates of vaccination, that's about 10 days' worth. April has 30 days. So what has happened to the other 20 days' worth of doses?

It is not about second doses as they were always factored in.

HolmeH · 25/03/2021 13:01

The entitlement in this thread is shocking. Be bloody thankful there is a vaccine at all. Be bloody thankful you live in the U.K. who are one of the few countries steaming ahead with vaccinating. (yes, we haven’t handled it so well overall but vaccines we really are). You will all get a vaccine in time. If you are under 50, the risk is low. Even in the 50’s it is.

There are people far far more vulnerable than the under 50’s around the world who won’t get a vaccine for months if not years. Be grateful you’ll get one by July probably 🤯🤦🏼‍♀️

First works entitlement much.

daisiesinmay · 25/03/2021 13:04

Be bloody thankful there is a vaccine at all

What, even if you haven't had it? Then that could apply to anyone in the world. It's not entitlement to want a vaccine and to want to not die or get seriously from a virus which has kept us home the best part of a year.

HolmeH · 25/03/2021 13:17

But you’ll get it. Do you think a 70 year in a slum in India will get one this year?! Who is more at risk of dying do you think?

You can want it all you want but this ‘I’m furious it won’t be next week’ is enormous entitlement. It’s coming, be patient.

emmathedilemma · 25/03/2021 13:18

@Badger2021

Have you not read any news? Smile

Nothing to be booked in April for under 50s.

I was about to go mad then but it's only NHS England so there's maybe still hope for those of us north of the border :) The omni calculator now says 8-19th April for 40's in Scotland although it's still saying end of March - early April in England. It changes every time i look at it so i don't have much faith in it. The 50+ age group are well underway here this week and we're the slowest (or 2nd slowest) in Scotland so I am holding out hope it won't be May!
mrsknottschicken · 25/03/2021 13:23

At my local vaccination centre today they had walk-in appointments for people age 45+. But they went VERY quickly and the roads around the centre were rammed. I went, but they ran out before I got there.

middleager · 25/03/2021 13:25

I'm 48 and DH 47. Frustrating as we know many people younger getting it through GPS locally, only ours doesn't do it on site.

I feel like sitting ducks as we have two teens at two different secondaries in high risk inner city areas. One already bought Covid home from school in November. Our generation also have ageing parents to look after.

I am due back to the office (at a school) soon and DH at his massive office.

I feel hung out to dry, lumped in one homogeneous group of under 50s, when I'm not far off the cut off, obese and high blood pressure. We know Covid risk increases over 40, so yes, those of us in this bracket would like to be told and I make no apologies for that. I'd quite like to visit my mother inside when I can and PILs in their 80s, but it's too risky with kids at school and we are unvaccinated.

Because a number of under 50s seem to be being vaccinated, there is no mass outcry either, from the 40 somethings, so we feel invisible.

I am not "entitled" - it's just frustrating that I was poised to book mine, and now I can't and I just know my GP won't call us 49 year olds if the NHS tells them not to, even if they've doses to use up.

@middleeager If you are obese and have high blood pressure won't you be called as part of group 6?

daisiesinmay · 25/03/2021 13:42

Perhaps they could have just not given it to 70 yr olds here then and just told them at least you don't live in a slum in India Confused

I just want some idea of a date too Lalalablahblahblah so as to at least mentally plan, to have some peace of mind. A lot of it boils down to lack of trust that the government is looking out for the under 50s, and their slippery behaviour when it comes to group 10

I'm not morbidly obese and when I told my crap GP I was concerned my BP is 157/100 I am ignored. It's a small surgery, no female GP and they are not seeing patients or responding. I would move, but don't want to transfer GP and cock up vaccination when it does come. Ironically, the other surgery has called all 40 plus year olds for the vaccination.
mumwalk · 25/03/2021 13:51

Same here. 60+ getting their vaccines this week, so not focusing on 55+ or 50+ until next week at earliest.

homesickinscotland · 25/03/2021 14:05

@daisiesinmay

I wasn't champing at the bit during the vaccination of the earlier groups. You might have felt different if it had all suddenly ground to a halt just before your group.

Some of us are 'champing at the bit' anyway, and I'm one of them. Not ashamed of that. If it's so much of a risk for people a few months older than me then yes I do want mine ASAP and not in 6 wks plus

Yes I feel exactly the same! It's frustrating to see the rollout get SO close to us then stop. I am anxious with a child in school, and actually feel the most stressed about the situation than I have before. Not sure that's entirely logical but there you go. Can't get excited about lockdown easing - just feel more on edge about it now.
