How long after AZ vaccine before you had side effects (if you had them)?

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2021 09:20

I had the AZ vaccine about midday yesterday and so far so good - slightly sore arm and not a lot else.

I was trying to work out though when I could safely consider myself 'in the clear' and not going to get any of the various side effects that a reasonable minority seem to get (headache, chills, fever, etc) so it would be good to find out - if you get any of those things, how long was it after the actual vaccination that they appeared? 24hrs seems to be possible, but has it been longer for anyone else and did you feel perfectly ok right up until that point?

Thanks!

Interested to know too. I had mine yesterday afternoon. So far feel nauseous and very fatigued , was expecting something as I have long covid, but wondering if it's going to get worse

daisydalrymple · 24/03/2021 09:31

I’ve spoken to 3 people who’ve had it. All three had side effects within 24 hours, but then the side effects had gone within the next 24 hours.

rosesinmygarden · 24/03/2021 09:31

I was fine for the first 24-36 hours and smugly thought I'd got away with it. Then had about a week of tiredness and pain in the arm they injected. It wasn't sore to touch but very achey when I used it.
I didn't realise how tired I had been until I felt better though.

minniemoll · 24/03/2021 09:45

I had mine at 11am yesterday, this morning I'm tired with a bit of a headache, but that's not unusual tbh - fingers crossed nothing else develops...

oneglassandpuzzled · 24/03/2021 09:50

About 12 hours before I felt very faintly nauseous and then slightly flu-y. All very mild.

Kaylasmum49 · 24/03/2021 09:53

I felt pretty much fine until about 26 hours after having mine when I started to get chills, couldn't get warm. My skin felt sore to the touch and I had a headache. I just got cosy on the couch for the evening and took paracetamol. Felt ok the next day apart from being more tired than usual for a couple of days.

Seeline · 24/03/2021 09:54

Sore arm almost straight away.

12 hours later everything else hit - hot and cold (but no temp), really bad pains and stonking headache. Felt better after about 48 hours, although headache stuck around for another day and felt very lethargic. My arm was really painful for about 5 days.

LIZS · 24/03/2021 09:54

Vaccine at 10 , tired by 6 , slept badly and felt cold symptoms following morning.

UndeadSlut · 24/03/2021 09:55

Probably about 12 hours afterwards. Very sore and heavy arm and tiredness which lasted about a week. Chills/sweats and banging headache started about 24 hours afterwards, lasted about 24 hours. For the 24 hours when I had all the effects together I couldn't have gone anywhere but after that it was manageable.
I suspect I had covid last April before tests were really a thing, and that would tie in with the bad side effects to the jab.
I'm still bloody glad I had it though, roll on part two!

TheFutureIs · 24/03/2021 09:56

Had mine Sunday afternoon. Fatigue set in about 24 hours later. I'm starting to feel ok today

YaWeeSkitter · 24/03/2021 10:01

Had my injection in my leg. No headache or other symptoms except the injection site was sore and swelled to about my hand size. The injection was 4 weeks ago and the swelling has almost gone.

Waxlyrically · 24/03/2021 10:03

Almost exactly 12 hours later. Temperature, flu like feeling, loss of taste and headache. 12 hours of that and then fine bar a sore arm & tired. I just had an easy day & took lots of paracetamol.

poppycat10 · 24/03/2021 10:20

My DH had his on Saturday, sore arm, felt very tired on Monday but otherwise fine. I'd hope any side effects would have happened by now.

zafferana · 24/03/2021 10:32

Sore arm immediately and for about 4 days, and I started to feel rubbish about nine hours after the jab and that continued for 24 hours. When I look back, I also felt exhausted for about 10 days afterwards. I didn't connect it to the vaccine, but as we were all still at home at that point I suspect it probably was.

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2021 10:33

Thanks everyone. So it does look as though, for most people anyway, it was within 24hrs but for at least a couple of people it was up to 12 hours longer than that.

Do we have any advance on 36 hrs or can I start assuming that, if I'm still Ok by midnight, I'll be one of the ones who get away without any real side effects at all?

About ten hours. Then pretty nasty flu like symptoms for about 48 hours and tired for a day or two after. I've heard that the stronger your immune system, the more likely you are to have side effects. I have rheumatoid arthritis - my immune system is so shit hot it eats my joints, so that's my theory as to why I suffered!

Whatisthisfuckery · 24/03/2021 10:35

It’s been 10 days for me and I still feel like crap. I didn’t want the vaccine, only did it because I felt coerced, and now I regret having it and am angry at all the pressure put on me to get it.

CharlotteRose90 · 24/03/2021 10:37

I had my vaccine about 12 ish. Got a headache within the hour and felt tired straight away. After that mine didn’t start till about 3am when my sky high temperature woke me up. Was at 40 when I checked. I was ill for about 3-4 with temperature, nausea, tiredness, shakes and no appetite. Was absolutely awful. I had the Oxford too.

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2021 10:38

@Whatisthisfuckery

Sorry to hear that - it's something I worry about and the reason for asking the question (so at some point I can eventually feel confident I won't be in the same boat).

How long after the vaccination did you start feeling like this?

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2021 10:41

Did you also have a COVID test just to confirm you weren't really unlucky and caught it just before your vaccination?

TSR1 · 24/03/2021 10:44

I got vaccinated about 3pm and woke up in the early hours the next day feeling hot and headachy. It only lasted a few hours though, just took a paracetamol.

Movinghouseatlast · 24/03/2021 10:46

12 hours after I developed flu like symptoms which lasted 24 hours. I then felt very tired for 2 days. I am now back to normal.

Whatisthisfuckery · 24/03/2021 10:51

I had my jab at 4pm then started feeling rough the next day. Have felt like shite ever since. Not been anywhere or done anything to catch covid before or after, and quite frankly, that would be rather a coincidence. I know several people personally, and know of loads more who have been the same, so I’m not buying coincidence.

My gut told me not to get the jab, and stupidly I ignored my gut because I felt so pushed into it. I should have been more resolute. My gut has my best interests at heart, where as people trying to push me into medical treatment I don’t want obviously don’t.

MagpiePi · 24/03/2021 10:52

Had mine yesterday in the afternoon.

Feel slightly fluey - bit of a headache, bit tired etc, but not enough to be bothered taking paracetemol.

@Whatisthisfuckery
You do know that when they were testing the vaccine, a lot of the volunteers who had the placebo reported flu like symptoms afterwards? I'm not saying you haven't had a bad reaction, but it sounds like you are feeling extremely negative about it. At least you shouldn't get full blown CV19 now - imagine how shit you'd feel with that!

rosie1959 · 24/03/2021 10:52

A few people I know had mild reactions within 24 hours
My daughter felt rough for 24 hours but as she said much better than catching covid.
