How long after AZ vaccine before you had side effects (if you had them)?

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2021 09:20

I had the AZ vaccine about midday yesterday and so far so good - slightly sore arm and not a lot else.

I was trying to work out though when I could safely consider myself 'in the clear' and not going to get any of the various side effects that a reasonable minority seem to get (headache, chills, fever, etc) so it would be good to find out - if you get any of those things, how long was it after the actual vaccination that they appeared? 24hrs seems to be possible, but has it been longer for anyone else and did you feel perfectly ok right up until that point?

Thanks!

@Whatisthisfuckery

I'm definitely not the kind of person who will take any vaccine offered without question (and for my kids too) and for me there have to be definite personal benefits rather than just ones for society as a whole.

I had to think long and hard about this one but I do think that, in this case, the likely benefits greatly outweighed the risks and so I can only assume anyone advising you to have it thought the same and so genuinely believed it to be in your best interests.

At least you know you've had it now, so the chances of a bad case of COVID are reduced to close to nil (at least when it comes to the current strains we know about). Personally I'm looking forward to a few weeks time when I don't have to be constantly thinking if the slight cough I have (usually because of allergies) is actually going to lead to something awful.

I hope you feel better soon.

It was exactly 12 hours for me.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 24/03/2021 11:12

Jab at 3pm, at 9pm I started with the shakes and temperature. Temperature gone after 48 hours, fatigue lasted 6 days.

Vallmo47 · 24/03/2021 11:12

Sore arm for a couple of days but eternally grateful and wouldn’t complain even if I felt rough. Sorry to hear of people who have suffered for a very long time but I really hope it doesn’t concern you OP as majority are fine.

FredaFox · 24/03/2021 11:14

Mine started about 20 hours after, then had 34 hours of feeling tough then was ok again
My manager had hers yesterday and her symptoms started within 8 hours. We are all different

Thanks. I knew the possibilities going into it, so I'm no more worried now than I was beforehand - significantly less in fact as it has now been 24hrs and other than a slightly sore arm I have no real problems that couldn't equally be put donw to stress.

I will still be very glad to get past the 36 hr mark that seems to be the upper end of the delay between vaccination and side effects manifesting.

@Notthemessiah My chances of getting a serious bout of covid were already next to nil. Any rational look at the data for a healthy woman my age of a healthy BMI will tell you my chances of being ill enough to be hospitalised are vanishingly small, and my chances of it killing me are, well, I’ve got more chance of being killed on the roads.

And to the person who said about the control group given the placebo, it wasn’t a placebo it was a real vaccine. Oh how I wish I’d been given a placebo. God knows what I’ve been stupid enough to allow myself to be injected with.

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2021 12:39

Small, but still larger than your chances were of having the same kind of negative consequences from the vaccine.

Not a lot of consolation given your current issues, but rationally you still made the right decision.

I had mine at lunchtime on Friday and the next morning I felt fine apart from sore arm, then by the evening I felt freezing. By 36 hours later the sweats had started, but no temp and oh my gosh I felt exhausted and still do. It's like when I was first pregnant and you have to go to bed at 7pm def not pregnant.

My Dad also had AZ and had to go bed the next day, but my Mum had the pzifer and felt ok apart from the standard sore arm. I was a bit run down when I had my jab and I probably should of waited a bit.

hellcatspangle · 24/03/2021 12:56

Had mine yesterday 3pm. Took paracetamol before bed and woke up ok but had a headache come on later this morning. Just feeling tired at the moment, wondering if I've got away with mild side effects or it's going to hit me later today...

Notthemessiah · 24/03/2021 13:26

Still well enough to drag myself out for the usual exciting walk, so off I go.

It does seem like 36hrs is still the upper limit of when things really start to show, so keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of the day.

Had mine 10am Monday. Shivers started at about 8pm and I felt fatigued all day yesterday until about 10pm so it was pretty much bang on 36 hours total.

Cindersrellie · 24/03/2021 13:31

I had mine yesterday. After about 3 hours later my arm started to ache. After 6-7 hours, the arm was much worse and I had the shivers. Paracetamol took care of it. This morning I was still a bit shivery and achey.

Runway · 24/03/2021 13:34

Had it at lunchtime, by the evening I didn’t feel great, by next morning I felt pretty awful with a temperature. I think if you’ve made it to 24hrs you’re in the clear!

Runway · 24/03/2021 13:39

@Whatisthisfuckery there was an interesting piece on the TV this AM around Nocebo effects. People who experience side effects that are psychologically generated rather than true. Sounds like you didn’t want the vaccine, had it and now are convincing yourself it’s made you ill for almost two weeks. Which is hasn’t.

I mean this is a very real effect, I’m not saying you don’t feel ill.

Alwayswithalacrity · 24/03/2021 13:40

Had mine at 6.30pm. Sore arm overnight and next day, but not too bad. At 6pm next day felt achey all over and couldn’t keep my eyes open so took 2 paracetamols and went to bed. After 2 hours sleep I got up feeling a bit better and went to bed that night and slept ok. Next morning felt slightly hungover but a couple more paracetamols and I was back to normal.

drwitch · 24/03/2021 13:47

injection at midday on Sunday
fine (not even a sore arm ) until that night. Needed to go to bed early, horrible night feeling sick and headachey. -Could barely work on Monday, headache did not go away with pain killers, really tired. Yesterday no headache, sore arm still tired. Today fine - only issue is sore arm (can't lift my elbow above my shoulder).
I had covid over Xmas

Pinkmagic1 · 24/03/2021 13:47

I had mine last Friday morning and started to feel a little achey and sick the next day. Saturday night I was very hot and sweaty and then by Sunday morning the side effects started to ease.

Elcantador · 24/03/2021 14:30

I got mine on a Sat afternoon.
Had side effects 5 hours later. Chills, muscle pain tiredness, temperature.
Nightine was the worst, high fever.
Sunday daytime i was a bit better, but in the eveining it started again. But i was well enough to work on monday

scpips · 24/03/2021 14:30

I got a fever about 10 hours after my jab but started to feel odd about 5 hours after, like I was slightly drunk. At first, I thought it was in my head and I was imagining things until the temperature started.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 24/03/2021 14:36

Had mine in the afternoon and was fine. Next day wasn't great (very sore arm and very tired) and the next day it was just the arm really.
The good news is that my second jab produced only very, very mild versions of the same side effects.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 24/03/2021 14:42

55 year old male reasonably fit and health - I had AZ yesterday morning - felt fine all day but woke up with a very sore arm

That’s it

ohhmyown · 24/03/2021 15:24

I've not been at all Covid fearing, but if how I have felt is just a small % of having actual Covid then I'm VERY glad I had the jab.

CrotchetyQuaver · 24/03/2021 18:03

I'm 49 hours past mine now.

I felt a little peculiar (mainly achey and a bit tired) around 2pm yesterday, I took a couple of paracetamol and pressed on and it passed.

minniemoll · 24/03/2021 18:29

31 hours since mine and I'm still absolutely fine - I've been pottering in the garden all day, much to my surprise, I'd pretty much written today off in advance.
