If there's another lockdown god forbid please seriously consider including hairdressers and gyms as essential services.
The mental health of the nation is at an all time low.
Being able to have their hair done or go to the gym would give some people a much needed boost.

I don't go to the gym or hairdressers so can I request non-essential shops and pubs/restaurants are kept open too?

MercyBooth · 22/03/2021 19:34

I agree. Ive been comfort eating to deal with the lockdowns. When i started going back to the hairdressers last Sept i started dropping weight. Because i felt better about myself so i was eating better. Looking and feeling like a scruffbag though i dont feel there is any point. I will tackle my weight when i can get my hair done DM is 85 A month ago she fell down at home and broke her wrist. She cant wash her hair and the bathroom and toilet in their 1960s house is separated by a wall so no room for someone to stand there and assist her. Its a question of hygiene FFS.

WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

MercyBooth · 22/03/2021 19:35

Wonder how many people with disabilities have been struggling because of this.

Racoonworld · 22/03/2021 19:46

I don’t care about guns and hairdressers. Can I have pubs and cafes instead? And seeing my family? Better yet no lockdown at all.

Racoonworld · 22/03/2021 19:46

Gyms not guns!

HavelockVetinari · 22/03/2021 19:49

I think gyms should stay open - they're low-transmission anyway. I don't know whether hairdressers are safe though, I'm not sure there'd be a one-size-fits-all ruling because well ventilated ones with social distancing, PPE and a thorough cleaning regime would probs be ok, whilst others would be germ factories.

Exactly. Not everyone is able to wash their hair.

In Spain, hairdressers are considered to provide essential hygiene services and have continued to work throughout lockdowns.
My hairdresser sees one client at a time and wears PPE, I think it's safer seeing her than going to the supermarket. (I'm sure it's safe for her too)

likeamillpond · 22/03/2021 19:56

I'm fed up of feeling and looking scruffy.

Also agree that a lot of elderly people can't do their own hair.
I remember a doctor saying he thinks that hairdresser appointments should be on prescription.

@likeamillpond It doesnt help when you see celebs getting away with it. Priyanka Chopra doing it saying it was for work. Schofield Willoughby, Ant and Dec. Seems its only us "dirty" working class plebs who are the disease spreaders Hmm

Dear Boris, please do not send any of the UK’s vaccines to the EU. They’ve trashed the AZ vaccine’s reputation and won’t use them anyway. If any under 50s in this country get seriously ill or die because UK vaccines have been diverted to the EU, this government will be to blame. Let’s finish vaccinating our own population as quickly as possible before helping others. Cheers!

RaindropsSplashRainbows · 22/03/2021 20:07

I agree. Everyone wear masks. Open windows/ doors for ventilation.

Wondermule · 22/03/2021 20:07

Does anyone find that when they look like a bag of shit, they act like one as well? When I’m groomed and feeling confident then I look forward to the day & getting on with things. Now I’m a stone heavier than I was in the first lockdown, hairs a mess, skin a mess due to masks & more time indoors, and my nails are grim because I rely on getting gel extensions so I don’t bite them down.

I was okay doing a bit of home beauty at first but now I’ve given up, I hardly see anyone and spend all day sat in our tiny open plan lounge/kitchen.

So fucking sick of all this, watching every joy in life being sucked away ‘because Covid’.

Dear Boris, how about another bank holiday when this is all over for everyone in the country to celebrate their birthday (DS suggestion)

BootsScootsAndToots · 22/03/2021 20:10

Nice Hmm

Dear Allmyarse DS.

What a great idea. I hope Boris agrees

Dongdingdong · 22/03/2021 20:15

Nice hmm

I thought so Smile

LadyCatStark · 22/03/2021 20:18

I don’t care about gyms because there’s so many other ways to exercise and they’re pretty germy with everyone sweating and huffing and puffing. To be honest, I can cope without my hair being done as well but it’s awful for short haired people! DS looks like an alpaca and there’s no way I can cut his ringlet curls and DH’s keeps getting in his ears and making him uncomfortable.

MercyBooth · 22/03/2021 20:18

Dont know about anyone else but i wont go out and socialise anywhere until i can get my hair sorted first. I dont want to go anywhere looking scruffy. So if this is more women than just me it could have a knock on effect on everything else.
So when hairdressers open up i will have to have my patch test YET AGAIN before i can book an appointment which means other places will have to wait before i spend anything in them

Chessie678 · 22/03/2021 20:30

Close gyms to save the NHS is just as crazy as it sounds. To force formerly healthy people to sit at home gaining weight and losing fitness to combat a disease where one of the major risk factors is obesity is completely unethical. Same goes for sports and swimming.

And most countries have reopened hairdressers as a priority or never closed them.

100% behind that!
CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 22/03/2021 20:35

Gyms can socially distance, and have membership so you can track and trace easily.

Hairdressers can socially distance and keep records.

YANBU OP.

Unethical? It’s called trying to save lives. And a haircut is hardly an essential, but if you’re that desperate for one and want to take the risk, book a hairdresser to visit your home. No one will be any the wiser (unless you have a Mumsnetter as your neighbour, in which case you can expect to be reported to the police immediately).

MercyBooth · 22/03/2021 20:37

@Chessie678 And then they had the cheek to moan about ppl gaining weight.

I had an interesting Twitter convo when Boris dared to wax lyrical about obesity again. Someone told me they lost 3 stone due to cycling and eating healthily. But now she doesnt see the point.
