Workman in house no mask

JC17fj74 · 22/03/2021 12:27

We have a workman in the house and he hasn't got a mask on 😕
I'm really surprised and when I said to him about it he said he ha had Covid last year and has his jab. That doesn't stop him spreading it though and now I'm really anxious staying in another room while he works.
Has anyone had anyone in there house with no mask on while doing work?
Maybe I'm being over cautious 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's your home, he is working for you, so insist he wear a mask.

Igowherethesasquatchlives · 22/03/2021 12:30

I would not be letting anyone in without a mask, why did you not insist he wear one? Confused

bettybyebye · 22/03/2021 12:30

I’ve had loads of workman in my house as recently completed an extension. None of them have worn masks and I wouldn’t have expected them to either. I was not in the same room as them generally, and even when I was we were distanced. I was not worried at all. I think you are being over cautious personally

nitsandwormsdodger · 22/03/2021 12:33

Either :
Calm down Open windows and doors
Wash your hands and keep two meters away

Or :
learn to be assertive ! and ask the man to put a mask on it's your home and you are paying him !

HairyFloppins · 22/03/2021 12:37

We have had work done recently and none of the workmen wore masks I wouldn't really expect them too really.

I tend to just keep out their way.

But if your not happy ask if they can wear one, maybe open all the windows and doors.

billycorn · 22/03/2021 12:37

I'm a tradesperson and I wouldn't go into someone's house without a mask and foot coverings. I also sanitise my hands before entering.
I'm not corona phobic but understand I must take any precautions necessary.
If you work in other peoples houses it is unprofessional to enter without a mask.

Mischance · 22/03/2021 12:40

ALL tradespeople should be wearing masks - no question.

I am moving house this week and the men are required to wear masks and sanitise hands. And I have been asked to sanitise any door handles that they might touch.

And I too will be wearing a mask.

We need to take this seriously. I would not let a tradesman in without a mask.

mrsknottschicken · 22/03/2021 12:57

I would not let a tradesperson in without them wearing a mask. Recently we had to have 2 plumbers and an electrician in. They all wore masks. In fact, the plumber asked if we could wear them too (which I had no problem with).

megletsecond · 22/03/2021 13:00

I'd be pissed off. I complained to SSE about one not wearing a mask last autumn. He said it was ok because "he was keeping away from people". Knob.

Even when I've had tradesmen with masks I've kept my distance and opened every window.

I wear a mask when I have people here too.

museumum · 22/03/2021 13:03

You'd be perfectly in your rights to insist, but when we had a plumber and joiner in our upstairs bathroom I just closed all doors between where we were and they were and opened all windows and the back door. Then cleaned surfaces afterwards.
In my case (not particularly vulnerable) I was happy for them not to wear masks to work as they are cumbersome and it was possible for all of us to stay well away from them. If they'd been in the same open plan space indoors though I would have insisted.

HolmeH · 22/03/2021 13:05

I’ve found it completely varied. Those from smaller businesses or self employed actually largely have worn masks. Currys, British Gas & Eon .. not a mask in sight.

Either tell them to wear one if worried or don’t really. It doesn’t bother me either way personally.

@Mischance - removal men are not required to wear masks. Ours didn’t. There was some guidance at some point that stated those where heavy labour was involved didn’t need to wear a mask.. this was back in November for us. It may have changed post more infectious covid!

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/03/2021 13:09

Find it interesting how someone is so anxious about one person not wearing a mask in their house, where they can go in a different room and open all windows and leave the room to sit once left. And so many people agreeing, no masks. No entry:
Yet, in sept, teachers were expected to be in rooms with no windows opening with 150 kids a day not in masks.

OverTheRainbow88 · 22/03/2021 13:09

Mischance · 22/03/2021 13:09

The removal company insists that they wear masks - that is why I chose this company.

Whatalottachocca · 22/03/2021 13:11

It wouldn’t bother me. If you don’t like it though, just find someone else to do the work.

Donotfeedthebears · 22/03/2021 13:13

You can ask him to wear a mask. Or just open windows and stay out of his way.

DH works on a military base. Half of them have tested positive for Covid despite wearing masks. I don’t think masks really work.

TheVampiresWife · 22/03/2021 13:25

It's your home and it's up to you whether or not you allow someone working in it to do so maskless. Unless he's exempt, if you want him to wear one there's surely no reason why he shouldn't? And even if he were exempt, it's still up to you whether you want him in your home or not (and I'm speaking as someone who is exempt).

ComDummings · 22/03/2021 13:27

It wouldn’t bother me, just open the windows and clean the area after. If you’re that anxious find someone else to do the job.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/03/2021 13:28

I work with a lot of tradespeople (housing) we insist. The one covid denier bloke who refuses isn't employed by us at the moment. We pay twice as much for his mask-wearing colleague.

They are in and out of people's houses all day FGS.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/03/2021 13:29

They're not magical. If people don't distance and so everything else, they aren't approaching 100%. However they help. Especially in short appointments when the mask is new and worn properly.

Justmuddlingalong · 22/03/2021 13:31

he said he ha had Covid last year and has his jab. It's at that point you should have told him you wanted him to wear a mask and to come back when he was.

dividedwefall · 22/03/2021 13:32

How can you expect him to work whilst being slowly suffocated. If you are so scared that you need people to wear a bit of cloth over the airways maybe you should just not have work done until you can cope. He has had the jab, he's had covid. What are the chances truly of you catching anything off him. Get a grip fgs.

ComDummings · 22/03/2021 13:35

Also those who insist on tradesmen etc to wear a mask in the house do you wear one while they’re there? Because I am shocked by the number of people who expect people to wear a mask in their house but won’t/don’t wear one. A family member is exempt, he got to a job and the bloke demanded he wear a mask. Bloke in question was not wearing a mask and had no intention of wearing one. Weird.

AnneElliott · 22/03/2021 13:39

It wouldn't bother me - I tell everyone who comes here they can take it off if they want to - their choice. And I open all windows and doors and stand away when speaking to them and keep to another room while they're getting on with stuff.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/03/2021 13:40

Yes, and I remind DH and DD as well.

How can you expect him to work whilst being slowly suffocated.

LOL. How do skiers cope? Or Canadians? Or Muslim women? Or Antarctic researchers? All slowing suffocating. Hyperbole, much?
