So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

I love that square block chart. I keep looking to see a complete line.

Me too - it’s simple but beautiful! Grin

@EasterIssland I was due my second within the next 10 days so not ridiculously early. They were doing loads of phone calls to get people in for 1st and 2nd doses over this last few days though.

I don't really get told the bigger picture though, I just do 2-3 hour shifts at a time. As I have to fit it in between work, children etc! I just go to whichever site they tell me so can be all over the place.

The paid staff are mostly there full shifts and know what's happening 🤣

LemonandGingerTeafor2 · 04/04/2021 12:58

My second jab is Tuesday
I was arm out when offered it back in January- work

DdraigGoch · 04/04/2021 15:10

England's daily figures: 74,512 + 157,903 = 232,415
Cumulative total : 26,719,422 + 4,304,760 = 31,024,182

Not expecting any figures from Wales today though I think that some of the other devolved administrations are announcing.

nonono1 · 04/04/2021 15:40

I don’t want to be pessimistic but the figures are quite low today, no? Isn’t Sunday normally a high numbers day?

DdraigGoch · 04/04/2021 16:00

Lower than the figures we've enjoyed over the last three weeks but still quite respectable. It is a bank holiday weekend too so I'll reserve judgement before assuming that it's part of a bigger trend.

LemonandGingerTeafor2 · 04/04/2021 17:35

Our mass vaccination site was closed all this bank holiday
I think it was purely because it's Easter

Mumoftwoinprimary · 04/04/2021 17:53

We’ve hit the magic 10% for second doses!

It is hard not to feel a bit despondent with lower rates than we were used to but we are still doing nearly 300k a day in total. That is a lot of people.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/04/2021 18:10

Have we actually had a Bank Holiday before since Christmas?

10% of second doses is brilliant 🥳

Roll on that 60% for first doses💉

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/04/2021 18:25

I wouldn’t be despondent, we were told supply would be lumpy.
Also at the start each day’s delay meant a lot more deaths than it does now.

UmbilicusProfundus · 04/04/2021 18:30

That’s a good point Countess, hadn’t thought of it like that.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 04/04/2021 19:01

I wonder how the numbers of doses given were on New Year's Day!

Seriously, I was expecting everything to be reduced over Easter itself, and that is where we are.

elaboratethen · 04/04/2021 20:13

Slight tangent, but look at this graph of Bhutan! It seems they vaccinated two thirds of their population in one day!

Have heard from friends locally that they are having their second doses bright forward - by 2-3 weeks in many cases. Not sure what that means.

Fabulous ❤

I take it they have a very small population

Marvellous chart though. Hopefully someone will show Macron 😂

I think lots of 2nd doses are being pulled forward following he advice from NHS eNgland to vaccine sites on Thursday.

The information to GPs, pharmacists and mass sites was that they should not start offering the jab to Phase 2 (ie group 10 under 50s) and focus still on reaching those in previous cohorts who still haven’t booked a jab. GP led services are asked to follow these up. Additionally. Unpaid carers can no longer book on the NHS main booking site unless officially flagged as carers. Otherwise they have to contact their GP. This seems to prevent fraud. And, what’s new is that centres with more vaccine than needed for the mop-up of previous cohorts, are asked to use it to pull 2nd doses forward rather than rollout to younger age groups. I too have heard of a number of older people getting called for next week when they weren’t expecting it for another 2-3 weeks.

It seems to me that they are worried about officially starting phase 2 with under 50s because supply just isn’t secure enough to cover them as well as phase 2. They do t want to officially launch phase 2 (although we all know a number of under 40s have been given it in some places - although often via local services and not through national booking) and then have to halt it. As the date to finish phase 1 of over 50s isn’t until 15 April, there is no need to really address when 40s will be getting it until that date passes. No point launching it now early if it will then have to be halted and a failure be suggested.

Getting ahead with 2nd doses means if supply remains poor or even poor for meeting 2nd doses obligations (suggestions on Sky News tonight of India not exporting vaccine) then being ahead gives some wriggle room and flexibility. If more suddenly appears, being a bit ahead with 2nd doses will never be a problem as 1st diesels can be expanded if they are confident they can continue. What they really don’t want is to open phase 2 now and then have to stop it or retreat on it and worse still find they can’t do all the 2nd doses. What they are doing seems the way to manage limited supply to best effect if meeting 2nd dose obligations and also the PR around it all. I wouldn’t expect any dates before end July for all adults to be mentioned. They won’t want to pin themselves down further than that because there is still plenty of flexibility within that timescale. Within that, under 50s might be getting it in later April, or May or June...no more precise promises have been made to any group within it and seeing lumpy supply means they will be careful not promise where they can’t keep that promise.

There was a definite drop in vaccination rates over Christmas and New Year as you'd expect but they weren't announcing daily doses so we can only guess.
buttery81 · 04/04/2021 22:33

Interesting analysis, thanks @WombatChocolate

lunar1 · 05/04/2021 06:30

I was checking the Covid visualiser app the other day and noticed the total vaccinated had significantly reduced. I sent a message to check, they have altered it to reflect fully vaccinated people.

So he world has fully vaccinated 4.66% of our population!

Sorry if this thread isn't the right place for this. @WombatChocolate your post prompted me to ask for my elderly aunt. She's mid 70s and CV. Her GP's cutting it fine with her 2nd dose (Pfizer) booked for this week, 11 weeks after her 1st.

She's in London and the high rates during the first two waves scared her. She's got herself very anxious. I've tried to reassure her. Told her vaccines are being held back for 2nd doses, but one of her friends recently had their 2nd dose appointment cancelled (and rearranged) after a delivery didn't arrive.

Do you or does anyone else here know what happens if it gets to 12 weeks? Touching lots of wood it doesn't happen!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/04/2021 13:10

I've a question too. Does anyone know when antibodies rise to their peak after the second dose. Im wondering how much space I should leave after my second jab dor things like the hairdressers.

user34254356 · 05/04/2021 14:21

Those who are getting second pfizer doses, do you know if the vaccination centres are still giving out spares at the end of the day? Or are these deliberately being binned as they don't want to commit to giving anyone a first dose pfizer as there is no guarantee of a second dose later on given supply issues?

lunar1 · 05/04/2021 15:02

Nothing is being binned at any of the centres I've been volunteering at. Pfizer is still being given as a first dose in my area as well as az.
