26.8 million people vaccinated thread started 20th March

Bordois · 20/03/2021 14:17

So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

They have changed from bottling it in the EU. To bottling it in the UK

TheWoollybacksWife · 29/03/2021 19:23

I'm in tomorrow's numbers 🎉🎉🎉

yellowspanner · 30/03/2021 13:11

Brilliant move to fill and finish the GSK vaccines in Teeside. Vaccine supply is secure and jobs created.

I wonder how much truth is in the claim about not wanting to use EU facilities after their treatment of the AZ vaccine?

Slightly down on the last two Tuesdays but well up on pre-surge levels.

I now have my phone off silent, waiting for my text for my next vaccine. Should be in the next couple of weeks or so.

MissConductUS · 30/03/2021 17:44

DH had his second Pfizer jab this morning, so that's both of us sorted. So far he's had no side effects ofter than a headache and some soreness at the injection site. He had two nights of insomnia after his first dose.

The US did 2.4 million jabs yesterday, with 95 million people having had at least one dose and 52.6 million fully vaccinated.

I also learned that these numbers may be a small undercount, as they don't include active-duty military personnel, their dependents and civilian employees of the military, all of whom are being vaccinated directly by the armed forces.

WombatChocolate · 30/03/2021 18:15

I've been tracking these threads and the gradual rollout (before the national booking page updates) and when the national booking page updates with a new age group, and where the local GPs seem up to for weeks and weeks.

Was disappointed 10 days ago when the delay to first jabs was announced as DH - 49, seemed so near at that point and so far. And as lots of other as seemed to roll out to over 45s via GP services anyway over the last week, our area didn't.

But tonight, a success. I'd noticed a pharmacy vaccine service had set up about 3 miles away, via the CCG page. They close at 6pm and DH phoned at 5.30 to see if there were any spares or if he could join a waiting list, mentioning he was 49 and could be there in 5 mins. There was 1 DSS spare and having quizzed him about date of birth, the pharmacist told him to leap in the car and get down there. I drove him and we were done and home by 5.50. Absolutely thrilled to think he will be in the figures tomorrow.

Thank you everyone on these positive threads for keeping us going. It's felt very important (to me more than DH admittedly) to get done as soon as possible.

For anyone else in upper 40s still waiting and I know there are lots, just might be worth identifying any nearby pharmacies and considering calling them 30 mins before closing if you're Upoer 40s and can get there fast. You never know your luck....and they don't want to throw it away.

EasterIssland · 30/03/2021 18:33

Thanks @WombatChocolate. They have set up a new place near my house. Wonder whether they’d take my husband if I called. ...Hmm

EasterIssland · 30/03/2021 18:35

Actually just seen it’s a boots which starts next week ...

Mumoftwoinprimary · 30/03/2021 22:54

So tomorrow I think we’ll hit 4 million for second doses which is brilliant. Grin

Also worth noting that we hit 4 million first doses on 17 January which is 10 weeks and 2 days ago. Means we have a bit of leeway on the 12 weeks at the moment. (Obviously there is a lot of “out of order” going on here - particularly with Wales doing Pfizer after 5 weeks - but it is a useful statistic to keep track on.

FannyCann · 30/03/2021 23:15

DD who is working in Spain had her first dose AZ last Friday.
I'm so pleased - she is a language teaching assistant in a school and first they said she couldn't get it as she wasn't a teacher, then they gave her an appointment, then they suspended AZ and suddenly it was all systems go and she got it. Way ahead of time for her age I'm sure, but schools seem to be on the priority list over there.

She felt rotten all weekend, but confessed she'd had a cold last week and was feeling feverish on the day but didn't want to miss it.

I was wondering where we stood on that and whether we were getting behind. It's very reassuring that we aren't :)
DdraigGoch · 31/03/2021 10:12

That was efficient, no queue outside and I was in the building for less than two minutes (yes, I checked my watch).

lurker101 · 31/03/2021 10:24

All over 45s now eligible to book in NI 🥂💉🎉

yellowspanner · 31/03/2021 12:43

I agree with wombat. My DS rand a pharmacy towards the end of the day and got an unused jab. There were 6 people all having left overs. He is in his 40s. So definitely go for it.

Indeed is great news. As a participant in the novavax trial I am very positive about anything to do with it. But I am dismayed at the fact that all countries like the uk are becoming increasingly protectionist. We have enough capability in the UK to make it work but other countries especially India are well ahead. Meanwhile many many countries have no manufacturing capability at all. In an ideal world everyone would be working together to get everyone vaccinated. But a. That’s unrealistic generally and b. Given how bad we’ve been struck by covid I think most British are very pleased that we are where we are, even though that means many countries are not.
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 31/03/2021 13:34

If you look at www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ in the "deaths per 1 million population" column you will see that the UK at 1,959 is worse off than anywhere except Czechia at 2,464 (with a population of ten million and 26,421 deaths against our 68 million and 126,670 deaths) Belgium (who for quite a long time simply counted all deaths as having been caused by covid, which I can't take as being realistic), and Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, San Marino and Gibralter (again, much smaller populations and far fewer deaths overall).

I feel that the UK has a greater need than almost anywhere else of SOMETHING in the way of protection at this point. We got as raw a deal in terms of response as the USA did, but more deaths as a proportion of the population, even with Trump's denialism in charge there.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/03/2021 14:09

Second vaccine is booked in. 10 weeks 5 days after the first. Whoop whoop!
