So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

That figure is staggering!
I had my second jab today. That means I can start a new treatment for my condition in April. smile“

Will this be the last week of big numbers before we turn our attention to “mopping up” groups 1-9 and second doses? What sort of figures will we be looking at after that I wonder?

When my mum had her first dose we’d just hit 11 million jabs. She’s booked in for her second one the week after Easter - so my “back of a fag packet” calculation tells me that should mean we’ll reach 11 million second doses by around then?

I think in many areas the mopping up is finished. Our local hub who had run a couple of walk in sessions, issued a call for 45+ yesterday. All gone within an hour!

Looks like every man and his dog are still booking first doses where they can 👊

Mumoftwoinprimary · 27/03/2021 14:14

Fabulous numbers!

We need another 270k to get to the famous 30 million so if we do a similar number of first doses today as yesterday then that 30 million jab will be happening at about 4pm today. 2 more hours and 30 million people will be at least partially vaccinated!

News today that groups 1 to 4 will probably get a booster in September. Also looks promising to start on children between 12 and 17 from August if they get the go ahead.

Copied from Daily Telegraph
Nadhim Zahawi, the vaccines minister, revealed details of the plan, which will see some people have three doses within the first 10 months of the jabs being in use.

The first booster doses will go to people in the top four priority groups for the original rollout – those aged over 70 as well as frontline NHS and social care workers.

Mr Zahawi also revealed that ministers were expecting up to eight vaccines to be available by the autumn with a number made in the UK, including one that could protect from three different Covid variants in a single jab.

Asked when the booster jabs would begin, he said: "The most likely date will be September. Jonathan Van-Tam [the deputy chief medical officer] thinks that if we are going to see a requirement for a booster jab to protect the most vulnerable, [it] would be around September.”

Mr Zahawi said a number of manufacturers including Moderna were holding trials, being closely watched by ministers, to see whether that was safe.

He added: "If the regulator then does approve the Moderna vaccine, then we will absolutely look at offering it to the 12 to 17-year-olds."

Just got my first dose! Had it done by a very handsome soldier, all the volunteers were lovely and helpful and I was in and out in 5 mins. Also got a sticker so I'm a very happy bunny!

wear it with pride @NannyElle. ! The level of organisation is amazing isn't it.

The mopping up of previous groups will never be completely done. Some people have already been chased multiple times and will continue to be so. With each successive round of attempts to reach certain age groups or other hesitant categories, the uptake decline....but each time some take it up, so they continue. It takes vast resources but is needed especially for vulnerable groups who haven't yet been done.

When we get to 18 year olds, there will still be some over 65s being chased and over 50s and over 30s etc. In fact the letter from NHS ENgland to GPs and other licensed vaccine services (hospitals, mass hubs etc) is all about identifying groups who haven't yet said yes in significant numbers and identifying communication methods to reach them.

It is a bit frustrating in areas where over 40s haven't been started yet, to know that the resources are being out into sending buses and walk in centres to areas of low take up when some people have already been offered multiple times, but I understand that they need to do this.

Back from volunteering. It was mental. I’ve done another 2 shifts before and they weren’t that busy. It was 2nds for over 80s and loads of people. Hope to see big numbers tomorrow

tootyfruitypickle · 27/03/2021 17:59

I wonder if Modena has less side effects hence they're thinking for children? I'm sure with AZ it's way more than 1 in 10 who have them. They don't last long, but aren't nice !

tootyfruitypickle · 27/03/2021 18:00

@BigWoollyJumpers I think we may live in the same area !

I literally know one person out of my entire acquaintance who had more than about three hours of mild discomfort after the AZ first dose; that's a heap fewer than one in ten. And I have been asking!
tootyfruitypickle · 27/03/2021 21:01

That's interesting. I wasn't expecting side effects, but a couple of people warned me. I don't know that many people who've had AZ yet though. Glad I was warned or I think I may have panicked . They subsided after about 30 hours, completely.

PuzzledObserver · 27/03/2021 21:17

Covidvax.live has passed 30m first doses. Just sayin’

EasterIssland · 27/03/2021 21:23
