26.8 million people vaccinated thread started 20th March

Bordois · 20/03/2021 14:17

So with the release of figures as of Friday 19th March over half the adult population of the UK have had at least 1 vaccination.

The number of jabs given is March was phenomenal and its likely numbers will be lower for the next few weeks but even if its "only" 100-200k a day thats still more lives potentially being saved!

@DrMadelineMaxwell

Our welsh vaccination centre is leaving approx 5 weeks between dose one and two rather than 11-12 weeks that the gps are leaving here.
Which vaccine is each setting using? I think that Wales is using 5 weeks for Pfizer but 12 for AZ.

Interesting! That must be why they’ve done so many second doses
buttery81 · 25/03/2021 22:49

And today’s official figures...

First dose: 28,991,188
Second dose: 2,775,481

I have my sights set on the big 3-0 now - not long to go!

Deaths figure was 63, which sounds low for a Thursday?

My parents in Wales had their Pfizer jabs 5 weeks apart. My uncle nearby however (same centre I think a few days later) had az and will have a gap of 11 weeks

Compares to 95 for last week.

We are now down to less than 75 deaths per day as our weekly average. I’m hoping for less than 50 by Good Friday. And less than 30 by the time the schools go back. That would be something.

PuzzledObserver · 25/03/2021 23:10

@buttery81

Probably a silly question, but who does the shielders category apply to? Is that the 16-64s with underlying health conditions (of which there are 7.3 million I believe)? Does anyone know?

Shielders are those who were originally classified as clinically extremely vulnerable and told not to go out - over 2 million, I think, and group 4 for vaccination. Possibly plus the additional 1.7m who were told in February they were “highly vulnerable” and got bumped up the queue for vaccination following a more detailed analysis of first-wave data.

I am one of those. I had my jab 2 days before I got the email telling me to shield. I basically ignored it on the grounds I had had Covid and didn’t get seriously ill.

buttery81 · 25/03/2021 23:20

Thanks @Mumoftwoinprimary. Does anyone know what hospital numbers were at their peak? I notice it’s at just over 5,000 today.

Thanks Puzzled for explaining that!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 25/03/2021 23:26

The number in hospital? Just under 40,000. Does it make me weird that I just know that without looking?

Grin Not at all! Gosh, so we’re way down on the peak then! I wonder how soon we’ll be in the 100s?

buttery81 · 26/03/2021 06:58

More good news!

Most of England recorded at least one day with no coronavirus deaths over the past week – the first time this has happened in six months.

Five out of nine regions were free of fatalities for a minimum 24 hours while London averaged 1.5 deaths daily over the week.

Official figures show there were no virus deaths in the South East, West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber or the East of England on Wednesday.

The South West has reported no daily deaths three times in the past week.

To add to this, NI has had two days in a row now with no reported covid deaths. Seems like a long time since that happened.

buttery81 · 26/03/2021 12:27

Almost 40,000 I believe, @DdraigGoch

Mumoftwoinprimary · 26/03/2021 12:52

@DdraigGoch - do you mean confirmed cases? 68k was the highest but that was just one day. (Either side was 52k and 59k.) There were a number of days of about 60k.

The good news is that we are now massively down compared to that. The bad news is the cases are now only falling very slowly. This may be connected to school kids being tested so much. (Ie that we are now finding lots of asymptomatic cases that otherwise we would never have known about.)

buttery81 · 26/03/2021 12:53

@Mumoftwoinprimary oh sorry, I thought @DdraigGoch was asking what the peak number of people in hospital was!

Paddy1234 · 26/03/2021 13:56

Yes we have a number of asymptomatic cases popping up in the care sector. So if they are still recording deaths within a 28 day period, these vulnerable people when they pass away of another cause will be recorded as a Covid death. So deaths are likely to plateau soon prob at around 20/40
However Public health England are taking into account they are asymptomatic

Fantastic! Think we might need to include them on the next thread title 💉🥂
PuzzledObserver · 26/03/2021 16:41

I predict that the 30 millionth first dose will be given tomorrow, and we will know about it on Sunday. A bit of a fillip before the predicted slowdown next week.

buttery81 · 26/03/2021 18:17

@EasterIssland fantastic numbers today, thank you for sharing!

I agree with Puzzled’s prediction. I’m so excited about the big 3-0!

HmmmWhatUserName · 26/03/2021 20:28

Woohoo, I was one of those over half a million vaccinated yesterday & I'm 46 21 Wink

It was such a positive experience, everyone was so friendly - I didn't get a sticker nor did I put a selfie on Facebook Grin

DrMadelineMaxwell · 26/03/2021 22:12

Yes, that's right.

5 week gap for those having Pfizer, and an 11 week ish wait for the AZ jab.

DdraigGoch · 26/03/2021 23:05

The final care home in England has now been vaccinated. It was unable to be done beforehand due to an ongoing outbreak.
