Prince Charles and Camila off to Greece

As the title states they are off to Greece for two days next week to celebrate Independence Day www.townandcountrymag.com/society/tradition/a35886831/prince-charles-camilla-royal-tour-greece-2021/

I think this is highly inappropriate and yet again sends the wrong message about travel outside this country. A lot of people would like to travel abroad whether that be for work, holidays or to visit family but are not doing so. Why couldn’t they make a virtual visit? They are both in the vulnerable category, being over 70, and have only received the first dose of the vaccine. Charles has also had Covid. I think this sends the wrong message to many people who have had either or both: the vaccine or Covid.

Because they are wealthy and rules only apply to us lowly peasants. They are the royal family, they do as they please.

Bordois · 20/03/2021 11:41

Well, its technically a work trip...

But I agree, its not really necessary and is bad optics for the rest of us who are still being told to stay at home

AlexaShutUp · 20/03/2021 11:42

I agree. It isn't necessary for them to make this journey.

dishydishemup · 20/03/2021 11:48

One rule for us, one for them.
What on earth is the point of the trip?

ImTheWolfToday · 20/03/2021 11:49

I can’t get worked up about this. Given their roles (whether you agree with them or not) and given it is a government requested diplomatic visit, I see more legitimacy in them travelling for work than a lot of the ‘work trips’ that we see going on.

dishydishemup · 20/03/2021 11:50

Will they be staying at the Coronavirus hotel when they return? I doubt it

ElephantsNest · 20/03/2021 11:57

Not acceptable at all, a work trip it might be but it’s hardly essential.

reformedcharacters · 20/03/2021 11:59

Not surprised those two have done whatever they like for years without regard to anybody else.

PC is a hypocritical t**t.

GoWalkabout · 20/03/2021 12:02

Stupid decision and completely inappropriate. As is having a constitutional monarchy at all.

dividedwefall · 20/03/2021 12:05

Totally unacceptable when nobody else is allowed to leave the country. I suppose they are going to say it's for work.

Theunamedcat · 20/03/2021 12:07

You can now self isolate at home instead of in a hotel and as its a government requested trip I dont see the issue here

TheVampiresWife · 20/03/2021 12:08

At best, it's completely tone deaf, at worst, an affront. Just as William and Kate's train jaunt around the country before Christmas was, when us plebs were getting to grips with tiers/lockdowns/not seeing loved ones over Christmas. 'Work trip', my left tit.

Maybe Cam should post on MN - 'AIBU to go on a work trip abroad with DH in the middle of a pandemic when we're both in the vulnerable category and there's a lockdown on?' She'd soon be told what's what Grin

MrsMackesy · 20/03/2021 12:09

Tone deaf and almost as bad as those travelling to Dubai on 'work trips', posing by pools in thongs.

megletsecond · 20/03/2021 12:09

It's pretty bad tbh. PC (rightly) moans about the environment but is presumably flying to another country during a pandemic. It does not look good.

dividedwefall · 20/03/2021 12:10

@TheVampiresWife indeed. Can you imagine if an innocent poster on here posted such a question. They'd be smarting for a week from the vitriolic responses.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 20/03/2021 12:12

Classified as working (isn’t Prince Philip Greek?)? Either way... not a necessary trip (and remember the staff who will be involved too)

Foxhasbigsocks · 20/03/2021 12:12

It’s not appropriate in my view

Sunbird24 · 20/03/2021 12:15

You totally can leave the country, I’ve got a family member who emigrated to Greece in January once they reopened the borders, following all the required procedures. My relative is not in the same age group as PC & DoC, but Greece obviously have put a process in place for their Independence Day ceremony and invited them to come and represent the RF because of the close familial links.

Thewiseoneincognito · 20/03/2021 12:17

It’s a poorly judged decision if it goes ahead, the optics play into the hands of those who are anti Royal.

GreenBalaclava · 20/03/2021 12:18

I agree. They should not be doing this IMO.

OneEpisode · 20/03/2021 12:19

You do realise it’s a 200th anniversary, not a normal annual event, and that Prince Philip was a Prince of Greece before he married?

Twistered · 20/03/2021 12:20

Tone deaf ffs

megletsecond · 20/03/2021 12:20

Yes. But it's still not essential.

Anoisagusaris · 20/03/2021 12:21

Poor form. The Irish Taoiseach (prime minister) usually goes to the White House every St Patrick’s Day and it’s a major event, but it was a virtual meeting this year instead.

Theunamedcat · 20/03/2021 12:21

How long are we going to say we are in the middle of a pandemic for? We are reopening coming out if lockdown getting back to "normal" unless its people on the news then they are horrendous people and it "shouldn't be allowed" other people are still going on planes and trains on holidays and work trips why should the Royal family be different
