Looks like Europe may have got their way

@MarshaBradyo

33 and not had it. Grateful that my parents have

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2021 18:33

Over I can understand at 33, I agree re second dose going ahead as it should.

But I’d quite like us late 40s to get it before diverting to ROW.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2021 18:33

@Racoonworld

I don't understand the issue. I thought the plan was always to get priority groups done by mid-April then start on the rest, with all adults by end of July. Add into that second doses ramping up now and of course they wont vaccinate many under 50's before end of April. I don't understand why so many non CV under 50's seemed to think they would be getting it in the next few weeks, the plan has been published for ages now.
It’s because they were so far ahead of target. The plan remains the same and there are no issues with it, but because supply has reduced for April it can’t keep going at the same pace as now, which is fine, it was well ahead of schedule but it’s disappointing for many, who were hoping to get it sooner than the plan.
Orangeblossom1975 · 17/03/2021 18:34

I also don't understand the panic of those who have already had covid Confused that brings immunity similar to the vaccine. I'm in my 40s and know the risk is pretty low. Think we had it last Spring as well.

LittleRen · 17/03/2021 18:35

How can people categorically say it’s nothing to do with the EU?? How can you all know this? It’s bizarre.

Even bbc news is hinting/pointing to this.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2021 18:35

@MarshaBradyo

Is it a delay or more an expected pause of one age group to do second doses?

I admit I’d love to get it pre Easter as late 40s but they do have to do all the second dose people at some point

It’s both, so many have had the first vaccine they need to be sure that everyone gets the second and not just keep giving more snd more th first. It’s just a four week delay v the accelarated roll out, but still on the original plan dor all adults to be done by July.
MotherOfCrocodiles · 17/03/2021 18:35

I'm gutted. It was beginning to look like most of us would get the vaccine by the time stuff reopens. Now vaxxed friends and colleagues, many of whom somehow jumped the queue, will be happily going to the beer garden - if I want to go I'll have to take my chances.

Also means second jab will be too late for a summer holiday anywhere that needs a vaccine passport whilst again friends and relatives will be jetting off.

KisstheTeapot14 · 17/03/2021 18:35

Is there any evidence yet on vaccines and prevention of long Covid or is it too soon for data to have been collected?

LemmysAceCard · 17/03/2021 18:36

Doesn’t help when twats like DPs friend who is late 30’s lied to say he volunteers in a care home at weekends (does he fuck as like) then got the vaccine yesterday. No reason for him to have it early other than he is a massive twat.

Incogweeto · 17/03/2021 18:36

Well since all kids and most teachers aren’t vaccinated I hope you’re all looking forward to your next stint of home schooling. For a year group at one of my children’s school that started today (the LFT didn’t pick up the positive case so she was in school right up until (and for a few hours after) the symptoms appeared).

Well unless matt Hancock lied on tv tonight, which although hugely possible I can’t see why he would. But he specifically said it was nothing to do with the eu ans all contracted doses were coming through,

Supply has always been bumpy, it’s nothing new,

Er, because the Govt's been crowing that the rollout programme was going so well that they'd be getting to the other groups earlier than planned? So yes, it's still on target for July but it's dashing the hopes of people who were told they'd be getting theirs sooner rather than later. In a year where there has been little to hope about, it's annoying and upsetting.

Well we have five weeks to see if kids going back makes an impact, but so far so good, right?
GoldenOmber · 17/03/2021 18:38

Government was confident enough that they would to be briefing the Telegraph about it, for one thing. They were expecting some possible vaccine shortfall in April (iirc it was even in the plan Scottish Government published in winter and got told to take down), but this shortfall is clearly more significant than they were anticipating.

Still hopeful that they’re planning for the most extreme possible scenario but it’ll step up again sooner than planned. Suppose we’ll see.

Oblomov21 · 17/03/2021 18:38

I'm confused. Why are you all debating what the reasons are?

"It comes as European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen threatens to restrict vaccine exports to countries not allowing exports in a reciprocal way."

So it's Von Der Leyen making an announcement? Or is it not? It seems quite clear from the above sentence.

mrsknottschicken · 17/03/2021 18:39

I’m so gutted by this; it’s really taken the wind out of my sails. I’m 45 and had started to believe that I’d get the jab in the coming weeks. I appreciate that we’re lucky to be in a country where the vaccination programme is going well, but to all those people in their 40s who expected to be protected quite soon it’s quite a big blow, especially when many of us have school-aged children and will perhaps now be unprotected when things open up. People are allowed to be disappointed.

middleager · 17/03/2021 18:39

The issue is that these were the headlines a few days ago

'Vaccines for all over-40s in UK by Easter'

nordica · 17/03/2021 18:40

This is more worrying because they've not really explained what's happened. Some BBC stories seem to suggest it's related to AstraZeneca supply issues - so something to do with production rather than vaccines being diverted to the more vulnerable in other countries. I guess we always knew this was possible, just feels like it's come out of the blue after all the good news about being ahead.

Delatron · 17/03/2021 18:43

I’m not disappointed. I know what the risk is of Covid being serious for someone in their 40s with no health issues and it’s tiny. It’s about accurate risk assessment. Even people in their 80s are more likely to be fine than end up with a serious illness.

I’m not going to get stressed about waiting until May.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2021 18:44

Yes I’m sure this was in the news

Plus when many people early to late 40s are getting it around you then it’s not a big jump to think you’re close

Tal45 · 17/03/2021 18:46

45 and gutted. If this is down to second jabs and not the EU then it should have been made clear to people that it would happen. Instead all I've read on the BBC is about vaccinations ramping up in the coming weeks which I interpreted as covering second jabs and continuing 1st jabs.

EerieSilence · 17/03/2021 18:46

@Avondklok we all know that but tell that to the people who are simply living in the past and due to some unknown reason still thrive on the anti-EU agenda. It's like a pissed off husband who divorced his wife and still bitches about her what an awful hag she is.

Dementedswan · 17/03/2021 18:48

Thing is, those that are in groups 1 to 9 are starting to need their second doses. They have to deliver on that to fully vaccinated the vulnerable. Over 25 million people will need second doses in the next 3 months. So I can understand why roll out to phase two may be slower.

But it's definately disappointing for those waiting .

middleager · 17/03/2021 18:49

We thought we were getting the vaccination because all papers carried a similar headline just days ago:

Vaccines for all over-40s in UK by Easter: (Telegraph)

Avondklok · 17/03/2021 18:50

Boris, of course, is not known for his over-promising.
