Looks like Europe may have got their way

And here in Scotland we're still on group 6. I'm in 55-60s and was meant to have a vaccine by mid April. Can't see that happening now. Absolutely gutted ☹️
It will! That the point. Me, 40 something in Englandshire won't get it now, so that dose can go to you if I use you & I as an example.

Is that right? I've only seen the article on the BBC Scotland website that says shortage of supplies in Scotland too. We've only just started vaccinating again this week because there has been a shortage ☹️

I hope you are right because there are any here with serious underlying conditions who still haven't been vaccinated - through no fault of their own.

Worknoplay · 17/03/2021 19:20

But the vaccine distribution has been patchy all the way through. We've had loads of cancellation at our local center, some days everything cancelled some days shut for the afternoon. It's the same all over the country. It may go down for a little while but it will pick up again, it's been that way since the beginning.

Monkeytennis97 · 17/03/2021 19:20

@Waxonwaxoff0 that's 19 in one class... I'm sure there have been more than 19 cases in the whole school.

Officially my school has only had one case.. in reality we've had many many many more.

BungleandGeorge · 17/03/2021 19:22

@ihearttc
2nd doses of Pfizer have been ring fenced and your parents will be contacted, but it probably won’t be until near the time it’s due.

ChameleonClara · 17/03/2021 19:22

@middleager

The issue is that these were the headlines a few days ago

'Vaccines for all over-40s in UK by Easter'

Yes precisely this. Perhaps if they stopped over-promising, it would be so annoying when they under-deliver.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 17/03/2021 19:22

@mrshoho

Apologies if this has been discussed as haven't read the full thread but has it been established how long these vaccines will provide protection as yet? What is our plan for later in the year? Are all the elderly and cev going to need a booster come the autumn? It seems to me we are only at the start of this and what is the government's plan to secure booster vaccines?
Amongst all the other journo placating/rebuking answers.(it became obvious that the 'reports' of the over 40s being vaccinated next month came from the Daily Mail) JVT repeated the long held belief that a booster may well be necessary for this winter, maybe more winters, for some age groups at least.

But as yet there isn't the data. They are gearing up for it because the data is likely to become available as we go into Autumn. That is how long immunity lasts, variants and a host of other bits of info

There probably have. I was just responding to your post, schools aren't the only high risk workplace. Everyone at my work is just cracking on.

Angrymum22 · 17/03/2021 19:23

I think that the optimism of the national press has led to a massive rush to book holidays in July and August and the government have realised that foreign travel last year ultimately ended up causing the second wave.
By slowing down vaccination most under 40s will struggle to complete the vaccination by August. Also we have no idea if children ( the great unvaccinated) will be allowed to travel.
Better to put a halt to vaccination of the parents in case many decide to leave the kids at home or stuff them in suitcases to get that week in the sun.

GoldenOmber · 17/03/2021 19:23

It is a suddden crisis of supply which means the 40s are significantly delayed but he isn’t prepared to present it as it is and hope people all decide it is because of 2nd does or mop up....and lots of this thread have bought that line....but that isn’t what has happened. Something has changed significantly.

Yes, agreed. Wish he’d just say “supply issue, beyond our control, we’ll be back on stream by May” or whatever.

DonnaDonna01 · 17/03/2021 19:23

I’m beginning to think we’ve had so much doom and gloom it’s all people can talk about and thrive on now.
It’s the right thing to ensure the over 60’s and vulnerable are sorted first and get there second. We’ve all seen the graphs their risk is significantly higher than under 60’s.
Just vaccinating the uk isn’t the solution either so f we’re sharing out supply to other countries again I think this is the right thing.
I think people forget the vaccine isn’t the quick and total fix some seem to think, even after the full vaccine program, people will still get COVID and terrible though it is people will still die.

ihearttc · 17/03/2021 19:24

@EasterIssland

Nope it won’t let me. Just says to contact my GP (or their GP in this case) but I can’t get through to them. It’s like they’ve been lost in the middle of all this. It’s further complicated by them living a 60 mile round trip away and I need to take them. I’m a TA so was hoping to do it at Easter.

BungleandGeorge · 17/03/2021 19:24

@MarshaBradyo

The only under 50s I know who have had it are carers or CV. 50-60s have only just been added to the booking and they are a large group, the groups obviously get larger each time. And crucially the over 50s are in the vulnerable category and the under 50s are not. I don’t think under 50s by next week was ever going to happen

It depends on area because under 50s are booking already in some. Only just but it’s happening.

Nottinghamshire accidentally released slots via the national portal but it was rectified the same or next day. Do you mean booking via GPs?
Wakeupin2022 · 17/03/2021 19:24

Heffa Scotlands vaccine distribution has been a bit patchy throughout. But I think they have also been doing more 2nd doses.

I seemed to know no over 70s who were vaccinated and then they were all done within a couple of days of each other.

My understanding is that no more pre book apps will be made available but that will be England only I guess. But the apps have been made available for for over 50s so everyone who is priority group is eligible eligible book.

I would expect that Scotland would also get the doses to ensure all over 50s and vulnerable get their 1st dose.

stayathomer · 17/03/2021 19:25

From Ireland and we are in hell here, tiny amounts vaccinated, mum is in 70s and vulnerable and was told hopefully by the end of april, aunt in 80s and just got her first jab yesterday. Ireland asking for vaccines from everyone and told no. We thought the uk were going great. Hope this gets fixed soon for you, everyone who wants a vaccine deserves to get one and feel safe, I wouldn't wish this unsureness on anyoneFlowersBrew

ChloeDecker · 17/03/2021 19:26

I'd be fine with it. I work in a factory and we've had more than 19 cases.

I’m sorry about the cases in your factory. I truly believe factory workers should have been offered the vaccine before lollipop people and art therapists, I really do.
Just for the record, I am talking about 19 cases in just one room not in total. In total your jaw would probably hit the floor. I know mine did. Your factory is not completely crammed into one small classroom I assume. Apologies if it is.
And with adults (at the time) not even allowed to wear masks. It was tough. I’m grateful to be allowed to wear a mask now.
It’s just gutting that the vaccine is now so much further away, we are still having school ‘bubbles’ closing and adults still at risk and yet people are still being told to pipe down.
Sad state of affairs really.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2021 19:27

Bungle I know a few having it but for actual process dh got a text from health centre to book, which he has for Friday - he’s 48

Trampslikeu · 17/03/2021 19:29

My mother is not able to leave the house, my father is her carer they are both on the list for vaccinations to be given at home. GP is saying they are on the list, but can't say when they will be done. Very frustrating for all the family as they have been shielding since the beginning, also very worried for their MH.

VaVaGloom · 17/03/2021 19:29

@cathyandclare In some areas they're vaccinating healthy 30 year olds, which is fine when supply is good- but not when there's a temporary lull

Really? Where's that then?

EerieSilence · 17/03/2021 19:30

@CallMeCleo wow, just when you thought you are in a company of sane people, you get this.
Btw, even a flu jab makes sense. A flu can have some serious consequences and cause severe illness or complications few months after you thought you recovered.

And that is what i think has triggered this!

Yes there is a shortage but it's not all of a sudden came about today.

They need to distribute what supplies they have to areas that need it most and not vaccinate those outwith the priority group.

I wouldn't actually be surprised if they started rolling out to over 45's from mid April.

minniemoocher · 17/03/2021 19:32

@Trampslikeu

Why don't you book them in online? Or call 119, failing that call their gp - our gp has been pleading with the last of the over 65's to book in for the last couple of weeks, they can't make people though

RoyalMush · 17/03/2021 19:32

I don’t get how this will work- it seems like currently anyone can apply for a jab online- whether or not they’ve been ‘invited’ to do so.. so won’t all the slots just get booked up if scarcity becomes more frequent?
Doesn’t there need to be a different system in a scarcity situation?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/03/2021 19:34

In other news, isn't Moderna supposed to come onstream in the next couple of weeks?

If so, surely they could use Pfizer and AZ for second jabs and use Moderna for the under 50s/40s/whatever?

She said they’re housebound.

You need to be in the eligible groups for the online system to let you proceed - so currently over 50 or in one of the other priority groups due to being CEV/CV, carer, health care worker etc.
