No Pfizer in the UK (?)

First of all let me start off by saying the only evidence I have is from a conversation with a Doctor yesterday when I had my AZ vaccine.

At the weekend I was lucky enough to be placed on a waiting list for cancelled appointments. Myself and around 15 colleagues had an appointment yesterday (all teachers). We asked why so many slots had become available. Doctor replied people have cancelled due to AZ fears but then said ‘if they’re waiting for the Pfizer they’ll have a long wait as there’s none in the UK at the moment’.

For me it was an easy to decision to make to have the AZ, I’m surrounded by hundred of people daily in unventilated small spaces. Just yesterday a whole year group was sent home after being back 4 days.

I guess why I’m posting if if you are considering delaying the vaccine in the hopes to opt for Pfizer, it maybe a while and weigh up whether you can keep trying to keep yourself safe before having the vaccine if your choice.

Interesting. I know at our local vaccine hub they have been doing both Pfizer and AZ jabs. They put out a message the other day saying that anyone with 2nd Pfizer jabs in the next week would be rescheduled to after 24th (second AZ jabs not impacted), so I guess that’s why.

Obviously no Pfizer 1st jabs will be done if they are struggling to fufil 2nd jabs

CoffeeRunner · 16/03/2021 06:16

I don’t know if it’s as drastic as no Pfizer in the U.K., but where I work we’ve only had AZ for a couple of weeks with no scheduled Pfizer deliveries on the horizon.

Awkward as we are due to start giving second doses within the next two weeks, which have to be Pfizer.

itsgettingwierd · 16/03/2021 06:17

O doubt it's that's theirs none as they are currently vaccinating all those who had first Pfizer with second?

Perhaps it's that they have limited stocks that are being used for those who need second dose?

AnyFucker · 16/03/2021 06:18

I bloody hope not. I have just had my 2nd Pfizer jab confirmed for this week.

motherrunner · 16/03/2021 06:19

That does sound awkward!

Maybe the Doctor was exaggerating or just trying to make us feel at ease with knowing we have accepted a batch of cancelled appointments!

All I know is I’ve woken up feeling very relieved, first step to feeling safer in the classroom!

I had my 2nd Pfizer jab on Saturday 🤷‍♀️

Baileysforchristmas · 16/03/2021 06:26

I think your 1st jab is more than likely going to AZ as 2nd doses for Pfizer will be needed, i’m quite happy to have AZ.

moose62 · 16/03/2021 06:32

I would be very happy to have AZ vaccine...in fact any vaccine. I'm not really into conspiracy theories but it does seem odd that countries are stopping the AZ jab when it it the only non profit one available. Could other drug companies have a hand in spreading distrust to promote their own vaccines when the doctors and WHO all say it is safe? Meanwhile more people are dying! More for us, I guess.

EeeByeGummieBear · 16/03/2021 06:38

My Pfizer (second jab) was due today, but has been cancelled due to lack of supplies. I've not been able to rearrange it either....

Flamingolingo · 16/03/2021 06:40

There is some Pfizer in the U.K. but it is being prioritised for second doses. It is quite limited in supply, and I expect that will not get better with the current fracas on the continent over AZ.

At the time of writing I don’t see that the AZ vaccine is unsafe, we have delivered millions of doses and would have seen any issues by now.

motherrunner · 16/03/2021 06:40

@EeeByeGummieBear I’m really sorry to hear that. Hopefully whatever is happening due to the supply chain will be rectified ASAP.

You're so lucky OP. I'm a teacher and was due to get my first AZ tomorrow but it's been cancelled because I'm in Spain. Angry

Pomegranatespompom · 16/03/2021 06:40

We are giving Pfizer at the moment - no supply problem in my London trust.

Ouch44 · 16/03/2021 06:42

I honestly think it is political. From what I have read from scientists on Twitter. Pfizer has reported as many clots as AZ. And both have the same rate as would occur naturally anyway!

DH is having his 2nd dose of Pfizer today. Fingers crossed

😢 I know I’m very lucky. I’m mid 40s so not on any priority list. When I added my name to the cancellation list I had no hope but cried when I received an appointment booking Sunday night and last night was given it.

I hope the EU countries who have paused vaccination will continue ASAP.

Not the case. It always amazes me that some doctors make comments like that when they’re not privvy to that kind of information so actually have no clue. It’s possible there’s no supply where he works, but he certainly doesn’t know about the rest of the UK

I did wonder if he was just tying to make us feel better with all the current media news!

It’s a really unhelpful comment, which will cause stress.

Umbongoumbongo999 · 16/03/2021 06:49

I've got my second Pfizer jab booked for Friday

I’ll report my thread then. I wouldn’t want to cause extra stress for anyone.

In London everyone we know seems to be getting Pfizer at the moment. I don’t want Pfizer as I have severe allergies with anaphylaxis so I’m hoping for AZ. As pp said both Pfizer and AZ have had cases of blood clots but theyre more common in the general public who haven’t been vaccinated so no link to vaccination. The EMA and WHO have both said there is no reason for EU countries to stop using AZ, it seems like a political decision, can’t really understand it?

FlyingFlamingo · 16/03/2021 06:51

I work shifts in a vaccination centre (Wales) and we are prioritising Pfizer for second doses. We have enough to give those, but any first doses will now be Astra Zeneca. Obviously I can’t speak for the rest of the U.K. but I would hope that’s the situation everywhere.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 16/03/2021 06:53

I had Pfizer on Friday.

Lindy2 · 16/03/2021 06:53

Slightly off topic but how do you go on a cancellation list? I've just had my Astra Zeneca jab but DH isn't eligible yet. He works in a prison so is in a high risk environment.

20viona · 16/03/2021 06:54

Pfizer is being administered at our hospital in staffordshire had it this week myself.
