This just came up on my phone. I had the AZ vaccine 10 days ago. I'm concerned about the news of blood clotting issues.

Risk is a funny thing when numbers get very small

And what the Irish Gov is trying to do is minimise risk. I'm baffled as to why this is seen as a bad thing?

TheKeatingFive · 14/03/2021 21:31

And what the Irish Gov is trying to do is minimise risk.

Not, apparently, risk of getting Covid. Which is significantly reduced when you’ve had a vaccine.

I haven't said it is. Why don't you look back at what I've said and the reasons I gave? I've been very clear; it isn't an issue in the UK and it's important to make sure people are aware of that.
PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/03/2021 21:33

But everything has a risk attached to it. For many people the risk attached to the vaccine is much smaller than that associated with Covid. Years ago I had to have an antibiotic that is commonly used and I had a very rare side effect (so rare the nurse wouldn't believe me) and it affected my eyesight. Should it no longer be used? Of course not, it's safe for the majority of people.

I'm intrigued to know why the Pfizer jab isn't getting the same bad press when there have been blood clots linked to that as well (as posted up thread).

Bluenightowl · 14/03/2021 21:33

LOL there isn't any evidence. That was my point. Quoting Aunt May and cousin Gerry, and a few comments on the Journal and FB is bizzare.

The Gov is not anti vaccine. They want a safe vaccine. They don't want further unnecessary risk. That is a good thing. Hopefully the AZ will roll back out again when they are reassured. You either have to follow the scientists advising the Gov or you decide you know more than they do.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 14/03/2021 21:39

@Bluenightowlxid you not read @TheKeatingFives link.

In my case it is anecdotal but that is my experience in my limited circle. Not speaking for whole country.

TheKeatingFive · 14/03/2021 21:39

I don’t know why I’m even bothering, since you’re clearly one of those posters, but direct quote from Stephen Donnelly as reported in the Irish Times, as linked upthread.

“People are very reasonably looking at the UK and saying, well, the UK are further ahead,” he told reporters at The Helix at Dublin City University (DCU), the State’s first mass vaccination centre which began inoculations on Saturday.

“And they are. We have to accept that, they are”

But believe whatever the hell you want, you aren’t worth my time.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 14/03/2021 21:40

Sorry fat fingers

Dementedswan · 14/03/2021 21:40

I believe that due to brexit etc and actually in real life data the Oxford is producing good results.

You've said you are not getting the next dose of AZ. Why is that when now you are saying hopefully it will be rolled up again?

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/03/2021 21:41

My big worry is that this is playing into the anti vaxx twats hands. No doubt more idiots will be spouting their dangerous rubbish on social media meaning people who are unsure will be swayed by their crap rather than making up their own minds.

Radyward · 14/03/2021 21:42

The vaccine roll out is a shambles here in the ROI. This " stunt" from the CMO is to cover up the lack of vaccine. Deflecting blame and keeping them and us where we are. So they will stockpile what they have and in a few weeks oh AZ all ok now. So many people are furious here. We have the most strict / draconian lockdown in nearly all of Europe. Businesses are collapsing . The govt. And CMO seem to be either power / fame crazy and pursuing a zero covid approach regardless of anything else. A no date lifting of restrictions. So dont buy it as myself and so many of my colleagues and family certainly arent. Just pity us here of the 400k 1st doses they are largely health care workers and the over 85 yr olds !!! They have so little vaccine supply here its embarrassing and frustrating . Like the media here are surviving on govt ads of staying safe etc and it seens darent criticise the govt. No balance at all or questuons asked why WHO /EMA have poured scorn on the clotting concerns as realistically so many millions have had it with no symptoms!!! Me and my family are looking across at the UK with envy. The govt will pay at the ballot box and rightly so i just wish an election was around the corner they might act in an honest manner and think of what people here are going through with no let up in sight

TheKeatingFive · 14/03/2021 21:43

Exactly, they’re playing with fire.

AZ didn’t have a bad rep in Ireland at all. They’re doing their best to create one.

TheKeatingFive · 14/03/2021 21:45

I totally agree with you @Radyward

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 14/03/2021 21:46

I was in a call with people from Italy, France and Germany last week and they were saying they are envious of the UK vaccine roll out as we are so far ahead.

TheKeatingFive · 14/03/2021 21:47

The govt will pay at the ballot box and rightly so

I honestly don’t think FF have grasped how badly they’re being perceived - and the impact it will have. And FG/The Greens think FF will take the hit.

You’d think the idiots would have learned from the last time.

Radyward · 14/03/2021 21:55

@thekeatingfive you darent say much out and about unless to close friends 😪😪 people are vitriolic at anyone not seen enforcing " the rules " and like so many have abided to the absolute letter us included but we are at the mercy of this incompetent beyond reproach govt!!

I am so furious at the passport office. You must have a valid reasom to get a passport like how is that even legal ?? How is this ok ? Our freedoms just chipped away at. Fgs we cant have any self thought any more. Its actually frightening in the ROI now not to mention so so depressing. Its just awful.

Bluenightowl · 14/03/2021 21:58

You've said you are not getting the next dose of AZ. Why is that when now you are saying hopefully it will be rolled up again?

So I can stop worrying about what the short and long term effects might be of what I willingly put into my arm! So I can stop worrying that my children will not lose their mother.

Enough of a reason?

Bluenightowl · 14/03/2021 22:03

Radyward Passports? Are you for real? You want to travel? Civil liberties? Jesus. There is no point continuing any sort of debate here.

MrsFezziwig · 14/03/2021 22:07

@Silverandgoldsparkles
Very few blood clots recently will have been reported on the yellow card system as it's a new thing to have been publicised

The yellow card system has been going since 1964. And it is to record all adverse events which may be related to a drug (or vaccine). It doesn’t work like “oh, a few blood clotting events have occurred, let’s start looking for them” - it’s far more methodical than that. You plainly have no idea how the system works.

icdtap · 14/03/2021 22:25

People should not be having to give "valid reasons" for getting a passport. What the absolute fuck?

Your passport approaching its expiry date and you therefore wanting to replace it is enough of a valid reason.
Someone replacing a passport does not mean that they are about to merrily fly off on a jolly somewhere infecting everyone in their wake with COVID.

WTF??

icdtap · 14/03/2021 22:29

It doesn’t work like “oh, a few blood clotting events have occurred, let’s start looking for them” - it’s far more methodical than that. You plainly have no idea how the system works.

So how does it work then?

There's a lot of people on Mumsnet at the moment making statements like this "You plainly have no idea..." etc. I got told I obviously don't understand statistics.
Well in that case, educate the poster - give them a brief explanation.

I don't actually mind people telling me I've misunderstood them i they then go on to give me some more information.
And I don't accept "go google it" or "go educate yourself" as being a constructive part of a discussion like this.

Aloethere · 14/03/2021 22:38

The govt will pay at the ballot box and rightly so i just wish an election was around the corner they might act in an honest manner and think of what people here are going through with no let up in sight

And who would have done a better job? SF? Not a chance, they would have been far too busy trying to stir the shit around brexit and get their united Ireland.
