Hi everyone, has anyone here had the Oxford vaccine and felt like death warmed up afterwards? I woke at 1am after having it at 3pm yesterday, shaking uncontrollably, freezing cold but boiling hot, I ache in places I didn't know I could ache, my tummy hurts, I feel sick, my head feels like it's in a vice and my eyes are really sensitive. My arms a little niggly but I'm bed ridden literally! When I get up I feel like I'm going to fall over. It's absolutely savage, didn't expect this atall 😩

I was like this for 24 hours as well, hope you're feel better soon, when you do make sure you record it through the yellow card scheme, they still need to know how many people have reactions and what they are to ensure the information being given out is accurate.

I had mine Thursday afternoon. I’ve been ok so far apart from a sore arm. I’m 56. Even went for a run today. Touch wood that’s it now.

Redact · 13/03/2021 22:41

Had mine last Monday, felt very tired, sore head, sore arm and very painful shoulder- felt like I had banged it or hurt it in some way. By Friday I was back to normal. Struggled working from home, I just wanted to sleep. DH was fine, no side effects at all, he's had covid once, possibly twice, as tested positive again after having tested negative (he's tested constantly for work) but unsure if it was still showing in his system from first time.

OMG - that’s exactly how I feel but everything hurts - my toenails hurt and my fingernails. I’ve got a stiff neck and was also woken up in the middle of the night with pains throughout my body. The worst is just feeling a bit nauseous all the time 😩😥😓☹️
YoYoYumYum · 13/03/2021 22:59

I had Oxford. DP too. The only side effect either of us had was a sore arm if pressed hard there.

DS had Pfizer. Same side effect as me. So mild.

The OP asked for posts from anyone that had horrendous side effects and these posts are putting some people off so I'm posting to show that there are some of us that hardly had any side effects.

Really sorry to hear of all the awful side effects.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/03/2021 23:11

I had the Oxford vaccine last Tuesday. I ran a high temperature that night and the next day and had a bad headache on the Wednesday morning but I was able to do a zoom presentation on some work I'd been doing that afternoon, quite technical stuff so I guess my brain was working ok. A bit rough on the Thursday but pretty much ok after that. DH had milder symptoms but for a bit longer.

I've never felt so good about feeling bad.

willibald · 13/03/2021 23:30

@Akrotiri1

The only people I know that have re-acted to the vaccine were given the Oxford one.

This could be co-incidental but glad I have had the Pfizer (both vaccines and only reaction was sore arm to both).

But at the end of the day, any reaction is better than covid imo!

I've got two relatives and three friends who re-acted to the Pfizer and both my sister and brother-in-law did to the Moderna one. In all cases, though, it was to one dose or another; not both.
WhatHoJeeves · 14/03/2021 00:12

I know more than a dozen people who have had the Oxford jab and only two had any side effects. One felt she had a hangover for a day but was fine the next day. The other had previously had covid and felt the same sort of symptoms for a couple of days, but milder - tired, aching, headache. I only know two people who had the Pfizer vaccine - one had no reaction, the other felt bad for a day with aches, temperature, headache.

I think there is enough real-world evidence circulating now to be able to say that a) any of the vaccines can produce a range of mostly pretty mild side effects but a few unlucky people feel worse, but generally only for a short time, and b) the negative focus on the Oxford vaccine is oddly skewed.

I've had covid and felt more ill then I ever have in my life. I can't wait for my vaccine and will be happy with any I'm given as they're all tested, approved and effective.

Motorina · 14/03/2021 07:05

I had exactly this reaction. Lasted 36 hours.

I had Pfizer.

minniemoocher · 14/03/2021 07:16

How are we all feeling today (those vaccinated Friday) I actually slept last night and feel much better though my arm is sore still. For those still to have it, have paracetamol at the ready approx 8 hours after being vaccinated and make sure you don't have work the next day (or you are wfh with a supportive boss)

Northernsoulgirl45 · 14/03/2021 07:32

Had Oxford vaccine yesterday and good so far. Actually a little concerned I haven't had side effects. I hope my immune system is working.

CKBJ · 14/03/2021 08:21

I saw first hand the side effects from the Oxford vaccine on my mum. As others have described uncontrollable shaking for hours on a par with fitting, then high temp, nausea, whole body aching, headache. The worst lasted 48hrs but the fatigue is ongoing 3weeks later. Other people I know have had similar but I’ve only heard what they’ve experienced. On the other hand the people who had Pfizer (including my dad) have only had a sore arm for a few days.

We are a well travelled family when I was growing up and have had numerous vaccinations. Never have my family reacted to a vaccine like that. The only thing I can compare it to was a course of malaria tablets taken in the late 80s. We all reacted and immediately stopped them on doctors advice. They’ve never had that type again. My mum is seriously considering not having the 2nd Oxford jab and she isn’t alone. I haven’t been invited yet and unlikely to get an invite until after April I am certainly in two minds whether to accept especially if it is the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

The second AZ jab is apparently fine. It's the first that gives the side effects. So please reassure your mum. With Pfizer it's the other way around
unfortunateevents · 14/03/2021 08:50

Coming back to say that after a day of feeling like I was getting a bad cold yesterday – temperature, fatigue, gritty throat, aches and pains et cetera – I have woken up feeling much better today. So yes lots of us are feeling side-effects particularly it seems from the AZ vaccine but in the vast majority of cases it seems to be short lived and for some people it doesn't happen at all. As someone else said, far better a day of feeling lousy than having to suffer through Covid.

Stickytreacle · 14/03/2021 08:54

I had the same reactions, cold shivers, aching, skin rash and feeling exhausted. I did feel better after a few days, then cold and shivery with aches on day 8. Only lasted 24 hours the second time, I will still be getting my second jab though.

Pinchoftum · 14/03/2021 08:55

You will be fine in a couple of days. It was tough for me but not close to the hell that was covid.

peak2021 · 14/03/2021 10:54

I had mine Friday morning. Had a temperature by about 9pm, after medication reduced it but it carried on until mid-afternoon the following day.

Not nice but better than having Covid 19 and it may enable me to travel at some point in the future.

Tigerswife · 14/03/2021 12:10

Had vaccination yesterday, fine today just a sore arm. Tired but am always tired so not sure whether that was a side effect. Just get in paracetamol and drink plenty, better than getting COVID.

RatherLostPenguins · 14/03/2021 12:52

I slept for about 12 hours last night and feel a lot better today. My arm is still agony when I move it but that seems to be the only thing now.

HidingFromDD · 14/03/2021 12:58

Well after being really rough yesterday (az at 3 on Friday) I woke up at 530 sneezing and all major joint aching. Then, very weirdly, it all went about an hour ago and I feel fine now. Slightly achy arm but rest is great. Just v strange

maddiemookins16mum · 14/03/2021 13:22

I’m right as rain today, was headachey most of yesterday, but 100% ok today. Slightly sore arm (2/10 on the ‘pain’ level).

Still don’t feel great tbh. Spaced out and achey. Vaccination was on Thursday afternoon.

Sillybillypoopoomummy · 14/03/2021 15:18

vaccine wednesday morning - still weak as a kitten, still have a temp and my head is still agony and I still have strong nausea. But, most of the bodily aches and pains have gone (apart from some impressive bruises that have appeared out of nowhere), I can move around the house gently for an hour before needing to lie down again, and best of all, I have managed to wash my hair...

Frozenintime · 14/03/2021 18:29

Has anyone had up and down temperature for over a week after the Oxford vaccine ?
