Hi everyone, has anyone here had the Oxford vaccine and felt like death warmed up afterwards? I woke at 1am after having it at 3pm yesterday, shaking uncontrollably, freezing cold but boiling hot, I ache in places I didn't know I could ache, my tummy hurts, I feel sick, my head feels like it's in a vice and my eyes are really sensitive. My arms a little niggly but I'm bed ridden literally! When I get up I feel like I'm going to fall over. It's absolutely savage, didn't expect this atall 😩

@Coyoacan

I hope everyone who is having adverse symptoms are reporting them to their doctors, as all these vaccines are only under emergency approval and the collection of data on their adverse effects is all part of the process.
These ide effects are spelled out when you get the jab, and in the leaflet that you're given. I just didn't expect to get them! And certainly not for them to be as strong.

I did fill out the yellow card thing online though.

Tootsee · 13/03/2021 15:30

@Wherediditgo

I really don’t get this. I’ve had Covid twice and it wasn’t anywhere as bad as these side effects!! I’m so put off getting the jab when it’s offered because of this.
If you don’t want the vaccine, don’t have it! It’s your choice.

Unfortunately the 125k people who have died of Covid in the U.K. found it considerably worse than any side effects!

Watto1 · 13/03/2021 15:31

I share an office with two other women who by chance both had their Astra Zeneca jabs on Monday afternoon. One was absolutely fine and came into work as normal the next day. The other phoned in sick for the first time ever. She was back in in the Wednesday and said she felt like she had been hit by a bus. It’s the luck of the draw I think. My colleague with the bad side effects is usually fit and healthy and the colleague who was fine suffers from several health conditions.

VienneseWhirligig · 13/03/2021 15:33

I did a yellow card report on the side effects, because I had one that wasn't mentioned - I take a medication to stop an overactive bladder, which works brilliantly- I only pee three or four times a day instead of after every drink. For the entire period I had the flu symptoms, the medication was not effective, so I was constantly up and down to the toilet and struggling to make it in time. As soon as the fly symptoms went, the medication became effective again.

Schoolisback1973 · 13/03/2021 15:34

I know it is scary but nothing to worry about.
I had mine Wednesday and woke up Thursday feeling awful. It lasted 24hrs. I am completely fine now.
Rest up, lots of water, paracetamol and sleep. X

BatshitCrazyWoman · 13/03/2021 15:47

I had similar, it lasted about 36 hours. Had mine at 8 am on Thursday. I felt fine when I woke up this morning, and had a negative lateral flow test (visiting a care home).

sashagabadon · 13/03/2021 15:50

My husband had his yesterday, nada. I had mine some time ago and a bit feverish, tired for 24 hours then fine. I’ve also had my second dose and felt nothing.

Boglins · 13/03/2021 16:06

I had mine yesterday too and expected to feel a bit rough but I feel worse than I'd expected! I had a dreadful night's sleep last night, all my muscles hurt, plus the jab site, and today I've felt really nauseous and lethargic. I've had a banging headache as well, I basically ticked all the boxes on the very common side effects list! If I didn't have children to look after I would have probably spent the day in bed but as it is I've done the bare minimum and kept dosed up on paracetamol. Hoping to feel better in the morning!

CuteBear · 13/03/2021 16:18

@Dustyboots

I’m waiting to be vaccinated.

But hearing all these massive reactions am worried.

If Covid has the ability to damage organs without us realising - surely the effects of the vaccine do as well

People say that even mild Covid can lead to long Covid and organ damage.

Some of these vaccine reactions sound more than mild.

I agree. Other vaccines don’t make people this ill and yet they work. I’ll pass on this one. I don’t want to be sick for days or even weeks. If I catch Covid19 and get symptoms, then I’ll let my immune system fight it.
Akrotiri1 · 13/03/2021 16:25

The only people I know that have re-acted to the vaccine were given the Oxford one.

This could be co-incidental but glad I have had the Pfizer (both vaccines and only reaction was sore arm to both).

But at the end of the day, any reaction is better than covid imo!

Cornettoninja · 13/03/2021 16:31

@CuteBear people absolutely do have some harsh side effects with common vaccines it’s just generally as adults we’ve already had the ‘worst’ ones. The first lot of baby immunisations make a lot of babies feel cruddy for a few days and it’s not uncommon with the next lots of vaccinations I’m childhood.

I forget which one it is but there’s one required for a few travel destinations which is shockingly bad for side effects.

Origamiheaven · 13/03/2021 16:32

I was exactly the same op. Had to take a sick day. Lasted for 48 hours. Had it on Monday and only just feeling normal despite lingering headache. It will get better so keep taking the paracetamol

NuclearDH · 13/03/2021 16:46

Dd was feeling ok by lunch time, so she’s had a few hours of feeling rough/wiped out but she still going to have her 2nd one in a few weeks.

Around 80% of covid cases are mild/asymptomatic. I completely understand that it’s not worth the risk for people in high risk groups and why a potential vaccine side effect is preferable but for people in low risk groups who may not even know that they had covid, some of these reactions do sound much worse.
flippertygibbit · 13/03/2021 17:02

I had same reaction, fine next day.

Ohdofuckofdear · 13/03/2021 17:09

Yes,had mine last sunday, was fine getting it done didn't even feel the needle go in but was ill for pretty much the rest of the week(I'm ill and disabled anyways so I thought it might leave me feeling rough)I had a bit of a headache to start with and some pressure in my ears and then within a day my arm ached,I had a bad stomach and felt awful,my DH had alot of the same.

Hope your feeling better soon.

Can I ask how people manage with the side effects of this vaccine with a toddler to deal with? One of the things I’m dreading about it.

Single parent of a toddler here. We spent an afternoon in bed and he watched Thomas TTE on my phone while I dozed. Special treat for him - he’s not normally allowed to touch it. Can’t remember what he ate, probably biscuits.
Tanfastic · 13/03/2021 18:26

I felt like this, had to take the day off work. Was back to normal within 36 hours.

babyyodaxmas · 13/03/2021 18:37

I had 2nd pfzier jab on wednesday, sore arm and a bit tired thursday but totally fine by Friday. This is typical, significant side effects are only seen in about 1 in 10 people. Please get vaccinated

CKBJ · 13/03/2021 18:39

I know 7 people who have had Oxford vaccine, including my mum. 6, including my mum have had adverse reactions practically as you describe op. My mum was unwell for a good 7days and still now 3 weeks later is suffering fatigue. All reported on yellow card. She’s had a Covid test and is negative. My father and 5 other people I know have had Pfizer and all fine except a sore arm-as expected.

I certainly won’t be rushing to get an Oxford vaccine. I don’t know of any other vaccine that causes side effects like this. Also people say the leaflet explains the possible side effects, I can only go by the one my mum was given and there was no mention of uncontrollable shaking or a mouth full of ulcers!

Frozenintime · 13/03/2021 18:44

I think I will report on yellow card. Had my jab on Thursday 4th and my temperature is up and down

My DH was away with work, so me and the DC ( 2 and 3 years) made a floor bed in the front room. The DC lived off TV, phone games and dominos pizza for a day. They loved it.
LoopyLoux · 13/03/2021 22:10

Thanks everyone. To be honest I hadn't looked at any other threads, cause if I did I would've chickened out and not had it! I just did not expect to feel this rotten. I still can barely move now and still have a temperature and shooting pains in my tummy. It's interesting how the people I know have had Pfizer have suffered virtually nothing other than the usual sore arm after a vaccine. Problem is you don't know which vaccine you're going to get until you arrive and they hand you the leaflet. By that point it's too late! 😔

I know a few people who have been rough after pfizer jab and others who have been fine!
