@BessMarvin On the NHS central booking site. There was an article in the Times earlier today saying that it would open up to over 40’s in the next day or so.
Lots of us having been trying all day and have been successful in the last couple of hours. I am 45 and have booked my first appointment for Saturday. My DH is 43 and it won’t allow him to book yet.

RockaLock · 12/04/2021 19:09

It all seems a bit random, though:

I'm 46, and just tried the NHS website. It will let me book (I haven't yet).

DH is 47. The NHS website just told him he wasn't eligible!

I have no health issues that would make me more vulnerable than DH (and if I did, enough to move me up a category, then surely my GP would have called me by now!)

chri55ie · 12/04/2021 19:40

I’ve tried a few times today and a big fat no! I’m 48 (and desperate!)

Thanks I'll give it a go but probably too early for me (or all booked up now!).

TheChineseChicken · 12/04/2021 20:03

I’m 40 and had a cheeky try but no luck!

fadingfast · 12/04/2021 20:05

Just booked both of mine on the website!! I’m 48 and I’d tried couple of times earlier today with no joy, but this evening it has magically worked. First one next week. Such a relief! I’m in Norfolk.

schroeder · 12/04/2021 20:34

@fadingfast
That's great news!
(On a bit of a tangent, every time I see your name it reminds me of the great Norwich band Republic 's track 'Fading Fast' it cheers me up. Smile)

chri55ie · 12/04/2021 21:46

I’ve managed to book both of mine too now....aged 48! Tried a few times today and suddenly let me do it tonight!

Pomegranatespompom · 12/04/2021 21:53

DH annoyed he can't book his (early 40s) - I think he's going to be difficult to tolerate this week with incessant checking.

@lazymum99

I am so glad I found this thread. This one and the stats and data thread are the only ones I’m looking at now. How many bloody side effects threads can be started. What do people expect to see on there. Even the please post if you had no side effects gets people posting about theirs. I was getting drawn into this pessimism and I’ve had enough
Having been bored enough to search, I found that the vast majority of usernames that started the threads, and quite a lot of those who posted on them, had not been used earlier than a few weeks ago.

I find it interesting that nearly all people who start a side effects thread feel it necessary to name change before they do so. Is asking about side effects considered particularly outing?

Mablefly · 13/04/2021 06:15

My husband (45) booked his jab online this morning!!! It's amazing as he has been working with customers all the way through. I am so happy! I am 44 and not allowed (yet), but surely can't be long now Grin

England to begin using Moderna vaccine from today

After yesterday’s rule relaxation, there’s another milestone in England’s battle with the coronavirus pandemic today – England will start using the Moderna vaccine. It will be used at over 20 sites this week as the third shot that is available in Britain for Covid-19.

OrangeBananaFish · 13/04/2021 07:45

The booking site now says over 45s. At 42 I can't yet (not that I tried of course). Wonder when it will open up for under 45. 2 weeks? Also we knew that there were going to be less doses for a bit, was that April or for 3 weeks? I can't remember.

I hope it’s less than 2 weeks. The group was meant to be 40-50 so hope this is so the website doesn’t crash. Previous groups were every few days
Racoonworld · 13/04/2021 07:54

Yes shouldn’t be too long for 40-45s now. They were saying before that under 50s wouldn’t be able to book until May due to supply issues so opening to 45s now is great news.

Level75 · 13/04/2021 08:18

The booking website is experiencing 'technical problems' (aka too many people trying to book).

Anyone want to guess when they will open to 40-44?

I hope soon. Some posters say in 2 weeks. I hope it’s before that , the group was meant to be 40-50 and they used to roll out every few days before (moderna is rolled out today as well)
ScarlettDarling · 13/04/2021 08:21

I managed to book last night, yay! Still haven’t received a confirmation text or email though so I’m a bit anxious even though I do have the booking reference numbers.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/04/2021 09:17

It will let me book now. 46 years old London. I can't do it yet for medical reasons but when I want it I can ❤

BunsyGirl · 13/04/2021 09:22

I’m wondering whether we’re going to get some bumper vaccination numbers this week if the second vaccinations keep going at their current rate plus lots of first vaccinations for 45 and overs. It’s going to be interesting to see the numbers towards the end of the week.

WombatChocolate · 13/04/2021 09:27

Looking on the Sky website, it shows the proportion of under 50s for each area who have already had jab.

Some areas are as high as 40% and all are over 20% with most around 30%. Given that’s all under 50s, it suggests some areas have already done large proportions of 40s. Makes me think the rollout to 40+ really won’t be long as long as supply isn’t a major problem.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 13/04/2021 09:42

I am not surprised, Wombat- so many of the people I know in their 40s have had it including everyone I have spoken to locally.
It will really feel like the home straight when we get onto the 30s.

Racoonworld · 13/04/2021 09:45

Yes, I’m in my thirties and already had it, and the majority of my friends have had it, either for jobs, group 6 or getting spares because they’re police or teachers. I can see them getting through the rest of the 40s and 30s quite quickly.

BessMarvin · 13/04/2021 09:48

It does vary. I'm in my early 40s and know quite a few in their 40s and late 30s and don't know anyone who's had it (outside of having underlying conditions).

Furries · 13/04/2021 09:56

North Essex, 48 year’s old - booked my jabs on the system this morning. First jab is this Saturday 🎉

Am so relieved. I have ME, as well as a couple of auto-immune conditions, none of which were included on the CV list. For me, the concern has been more about the risk of Long Covid. The thought of feeling worse has not been a good one!

As others have said above, I don’t think it will be too long before the rest of over 40s are able to book.
