Name change for this. I know I’m being overly anxious but I need a hand hold.

My friend is insistent on always sending me doomy messages about the Covid vaccine.

They’re always screen shots of something she’s seen on Facebook. Someone has died, someone has been taken to hospital, someone has had liver failure.
The latest one today is that a 34 year old woman has dropped dead after her vaccine.

Mine is booked for tomorrow and I’m really, really worried.

I already suffer from severe anxiety. I know rationally I shouldn’t pay attention to some random Facebook posts.
I know millions of people have had theirs and have been absolutely fine.

Right now, I’m not rational. I’m panicking and I can’t think clearly.

I’m so close to cancelling my appointment 😭😭

I’ve lived in fear for months now and I’m so looking forward to being vaccinated, but this is just another fear to add to the list 😖

Please get the vaccine. We lost a very dear work colleague to COVID a few weeks ago and we’re absolutely devastated. Please just do it.

justanothername2 · 10/03/2021 18:25

@RampantIvy

Are you getting any help with your anxiety *@justanothername2*?

Do you also have health anxiety?
The chances of getting very ill or dying from covid are many, many, many times higher than any side effects from the vaccine. If you decide not to have a vaccine you will have no end to the worry about your health. Having the vaccine will go some way to alleviate that.

@RampantIvy

I’m waiting for CBT, yes I have health anxiety too. 😞

doireallyneedaname · 10/03/2021 18:27

@justanothername2 I have severe health anxiety and started CBT last week. I still managed to get the job.

I promise you can do it! I don’t think about any of the things I was worried about now and it’s only 2 weeks later.

NedyNad · 10/03/2021 18:27

Many of you keep trying to point out it's just random posts on facebook, but it's far more than that, isn't it? Just look at Yellow Card and VAERS websites they have thousands reporting adverse reactions. A lot of you need to stop pretending that this vaccine is completely harmless it's ridiculous.

doireallyneedaname · 10/03/2021 18:27

@NedyNad Err.. yes, side effects are common with most vaccines. Nobody is dropping dead because of the vaccine though. People are dropping dead because of covid, however.

CuteBear · 10/03/2021 18:31
@cutebear

Yellow card reports are incidents that occur close to an injection and are not necessarily caused by the injection. I understand this completely as my ten year old son experienced thrombocytopenia a week after a flu jab. We will never know if the jab caused it or whether, as is more likely, it was the mild viral infection he had had two weeks prior. It was reported as a yellow card incident.

As well as looking at the reports you should look at the analysis of the reports. Side effect reports using yellow card are running at around 3-4 in 1000 doses, much less than side effects from covid even in the young and healthy where 20 percent odd report lingering issues.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-adverse-reactions/coronavirus-vaccine-summary-of-yellow-card-reporting
It’s the same if you have Covid19. You don’t know if it’s the virus that caused health issues or even death, or an underlying health condition that may or may not have been diagnosed.

I’m not anti vax. I’m up to date with mine. It’s just always worth weighing up the pros and cons and being mindful about other's experiences.

Not everyone reports via Yellow Card so we’ll never know. Like I said before, everyone reacts differently. Some people are fine, others aren’t.

NedyNad · 10/03/2021 18:32

Nobody dropping dead huh? Have you actually taken a look at the reports? There's plenty of deaths reported and they didn't die of COVID so maybe you should stop trying to pin all this shit on a virus thats over 99% survivable.

toocold54 · 10/03/2021 18:32

Do not do anything you are uncomfortable with.
I work in a school and the spare vaccines are offered to us from our local hospital (there’s only been a couple spare so far) so your shouldn’t be going to waste.

However I have never heard of anyone who’s genuinely had a bad reaction to the vaccination. Thousands of people have had it and if a large number had side effects it would be all over the news.

Summerflowers209 · 10/03/2021 18:32

More than 300 million people worldwide have had the vaccine. Think about how many people have died or had long covid out of 300 million people who caught coronavirus and compare that to the negative vaccine outcomes? The vaccine is the much safer option

Blyatiful · 10/03/2021 18:33

I live in a country full of antivaxxers. I’ve heard that it will put a chip in you, alter your DNA, make you infertile, 5G etc etc. These people also believe in witches, vampires, curses from the church to ensure you will be infertile/won’t marry and the evil eye. I don’t care if they don’t get vaccinated. All this means is that if they catch Covid, they run the risk of being seriously ill and ending up in the completely inadequate health system.

awkwardturtle · 10/03/2021 18:33

Please get the vaccine. My daughter (mid twenties, previously fit and well) had a mild case of Covid last year. She now has lung damage and heart damage caused by the virus.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 10/03/2021 18:35

I have severe anxiety too op and health anxiety. I had my vaccine recently. The lady who checked my info could see I was anxious and really reassured me. I had the vaccine and felt nothing. The day after I was achy and tired. But nothing that stopped me carrying on with my day at all. I've had a few people on my social media and in rl that have also had the vaccine and most of them haven't had any side effects. The ones who did have been very mild. Could you speak to the people at the vaccine centre when you go? They can tell you facts rather than hear say and help reassure you. I'm glad I had mine and would definitely do it again, covid frightens me much more than the vaccine which I think helped my own decision.

Londontown12 · 10/03/2021 18:39

What a horrible friend ! I’d say she probably jealous you get to have the vaccine before her !
Had mine nearly 2 weeks ago no side affects just aching arm for couple of hours !
If u want the vaccine get it !
This is why I’m not on FB pure bullshit stories x

ClearMountain · 10/03/2021 18:39

22m have been vaccinated. If there was a problem we’d be seeing people dropping dead everywhere. I have anxiety and believe me, I felt fabulous after I was vaccinated because all the Covid anxiety just lifted like a weight off my shoulders.

CuteBear · 10/03/2021 18:41

My friend had a virus years ago and her ME and CFS has only worsened. She was previously a healthy, sporty teenager. Unfortunately, many viruses can cause post-viral health conditions.
GintyMcGinty · 10/03/2021 18:41

I had mine last week.

It was excellent. It wasn't painful to receive and I have had no side affects at all.

I would really recommend it. My parents and my mother in law and loads of people I know have had it with no problems. A few of them had a mild head ache and one person felt a bit rough for a few days.

No one I know regrets it.

Mute your friend for the next wee while so she doesnt' add to your anxiety.

doireallyneedaname · 10/03/2021 18:48

@NedyNad Yes, that’s correct. People will have died after having had the vaccine but you can’t provide any evidence to show it was vaccine related, because there isn’t any and it wasn’t. Stop scaremongering.

theThreeofWeevils · 10/03/2021 18:48

As others have said, your 'friend' is nothing of the kind.Burn her house down Block her.
Might you be able to negotiate the 'control' difficulty with yourself by saying 'By choosing to do this, I am eliminating my future anxieties about Covid; I am taking control'?
I hope you are able to keep your appointment. Good luck Flowers

Flidina · 10/03/2021 18:48

Had mine last week, like you I was nervous, but decided covid would be worse, so went ahead, no problems apart from slight flu like symptoms, bit of a sore arm, fine after a day or so.

theThreeofWeevils · 10/03/2021 18:48

Strikethrough fail...

Madcats · 10/03/2021 18:57

When is your appointment, OP?

We can all send you good luck vibes/wishes just before (if you want us to)

Unsure33 · 10/03/2021 18:59

Of course read the facts and weigh up the risks , but I will tell you we have just had a 25 year old where I work rushed to hospital in a serious condition with covid .

And his parents are seriously ill as well .

I had the vaccine . It did not hurt . I felt a bit shivery and had a headache last night . Today just my arm is a bit sore .

Better than being in hospital on oxygen and worries about blood clots on the lungs .

Nsky · 10/03/2021 19:08

The odds of something happening are very rare.
Any jab can carry risks, unless you have medical reasons not to.
Be brave get it done

Yebanksandbraes · 10/03/2021 19:08

The vaccine has been tested thoroughly. Sudden unexplained deaths are usually related to undiagnosed heart conditions. People often look for causes when they don't exist. Coincidences happen all the time. People don't say, "he saw a pigeon then dropped dead so the pigeon caused it". Unless she had a severe allergic reaction to it (usually people with severe allergies are aware of them) then it's just coincidence (and that's if it's even true in the first place).
It's much better to get the vaccine than Covid, it's a simple as that. When you get the vaccine you are literally surrounded by nurses and doctors so you are really safe in the event of any immediate adverse reaction. Get the vaccine and once 2-3 weeks have passed your body will be full of lovely antibodies waiting to protect you. You will then be safer and can relax a bit.

eaglejulesk · 10/03/2021 19:14

Just look at Yellow Card and VAERS websites they have thousands reporting adverse reactions. A lot of you need to stop pretending that this vaccine is completely harmless it's ridiculous.

Some people are very susceptible and will report adverse reactions simply because they've heard it can happen, in other words they talk themselves into it. Also they fall ill near the same time and believe, rightly or wrongly, that it was caused by the vaccine.

The OP asked for reassurance, not scaremongering. Take yourself off somewhere else.
