Name change for this. I know I’m being overly anxious but I need a hand hold.

My friend is insistent on always sending me doomy messages about the Covid vaccine.

They’re always screen shots of something she’s seen on Facebook. Someone has died, someone has been taken to hospital, someone has had liver failure.
The latest one today is that a 34 year old woman has dropped dead after her vaccine.

Mine is booked for tomorrow and I’m really, really worried.

I already suffer from severe anxiety. I know rationally I shouldn’t pay attention to some random Facebook posts.
I know millions of people have had theirs and have been absolutely fine.

Right now, I’m not rational. I’m panicking and I can’t think clearly.

I’m so close to cancelling my appointment 😭😭

I’ve lived in fear for months now and I’m so looking forward to being vaccinated, but this is just another fear to add to the list 😖

Just have it. Its fine honestly. Some people don't believe in child vaccinations and therefore don't vaccinate their kids. They could prob give loads of reasons why to vaccinate children. Get your vaccine and we can all live normal again soon

Wonkydonkey44 · 10/03/2021 20:41

Please go , I had mine on Saturday and the sense of relief was amazing Flowers

NedyNad · 10/03/2021 20:46
@NedyNad Yes, that’s correct. People will have died after having had the vaccine but you can’t provide any evidence to show it was vaccine related, because there isn’t any and it wasn’t. Stop scaremongering.
You could say the exact same thing for COVID. There is no evidence whatsoever that anyone has actually died of COVID because autopsies have been cancelled.

Circumlocutious · 10/03/2021 20:48

If you vaccinate millions of people of course you’ll have adverse side effects - say, 1 in every 10,000 people experiencing something or other. That would be considered rare.

What I don’t understand is the people who think a 0.1% covid fatality rate is absolutely minuscule and not worth stressing over, but then a 0.01% adverse reaction rate is enough to make them hyperventilate out of panic. The only conclusion is that they have zero grasp of probability and number.

JaninaDuszejko · 10/03/2021 21:04

@JanuaryJonez

Is this the article you mean?

www.livemint.com/news/world/austria-suspends-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-batch-after-death-11615116433579.html

It is a bit worrying as they've destroyed the particular vaccine batch that the woman had. Can you raise your concern with them and ask when you arrive to be vaccinated if you can rebook for the Pfizer one?

Firstly it doesn't say in the article that they've destroyed this batch, just that they've stopped using it while they investigate. Destroying all the batch would be seen as phenomenally suspicious by the regulators and there is no way AZ or their CMOs would do that, they would lose their manufacturing licence. There will be ongoing stability studies of that batch and there are always sizable retains kept during a manufacture of a drug for future investigations so even if the Austrian authorities were to destroy the vaccine stocks they had there would still be stocks available for investigation.

Secondly AZ haven't commented. All pharma companies have clear policies on what to do if a drug batch needs to be withdrawn. The fact that AZ haven't commented suggests this is a local Austrian issue and they haven't yet determined if it's the vaccine. As we all know the AZ vaccine made in Europe is sold in Europe and the AZ batches sold in the UK are sold to the NHS so even if there was a problem with that batch it won't be a batch being distributed in the UK.

Thirdly, OP, block this 'friend' and take the vaccine. Nearly 200 million people worldwide have been vaccinated so far. If people were dying because of the vaccine we'd have noticed by now.

scpips · 10/03/2021 21:30

I had mine a few weeks ago and had a high temperature afterwards. I was also nervous before having it. BUT...
About six weeks ago I had a virus that at the beginning seemed like it might be COVID, and I had to wait a day or two for the test results. The anxiety then of not knowing if I had it was 1000 times worse than the vaccination.
Even after having had a temperature and being in bed for a day after the vaccine, I am so glad I have had it. I would never want to experience the anxiety again that I felt when I had a temperature and didn't know if it was Corona. I know so many people who have been so very ill with Corona, so many who have long term issues because of it and a few who have died from it. It is a terrible wicked disease.
The numbers are rising again where I live, and the difference knowing I have at least got some protection (or will have in a few weeks more) is unbelievable.

sparkle58 · 10/03/2021 21:35

I had mine on Monday, was very well organised and the centre was full of cheery people who were happy and relieved to be getting their vaccine, no side effects just a slightly achey arm next day 😊

Riv12345 · 10/03/2021 21:42

I've just had my second vaccine.
Didn't even feel it.

I have also worked in the covid vaccine clinic where they give the jabs.

All very organised, good atmosphere.
They will understand if you are nervous.
Believe me I've seen grown men anxious.
You will be absolutely fine op.

Come and let us know how you got on.
By the way ignore what you hear or read on social media etc.

saraclara · 10/03/2021 21:46

Nearly 20million vaccines and no (credible) consequent deaths.

Yep. 20million people in the UK have had the vaccine. Not a single death has been caused by it. If it had, we'd know about it (and not via a friend's Facebook page).

I had my vaccine three weeks ago, OP. I didn't realise how worried I'd been about Covid until I left the vaccination centre feeling like I was walking on air. Yes, I knew that it was going to be three weeks before it was doing its job, but the relief at actually having that protective stuff in my arm, took me by surprise. I was so relieved to be on the way to being protected. And you'll feel the same, I'm sure.

AlwaysLatte · 10/03/2021 22:02

That's like saying you'd rather skateboard down the middle of the M1 rather than take a plane because of the very very tiny chance of a plane crash.

Exactly

Because that tiny 0.01% is blown up in your head hen you have health anxiety.. and not made any better by putting yourself at that risk on purpose (taking the vaccine).
trhfxbtht · 10/03/2021 23:30

I'd block your friend and don't listen to @Devlesko. About anything.

justanothername2 · 11/03/2021 00:24
@justanothername2 In that case I suspect she probably thinks you feel the same as her about things and is looking for comfort in all of this.

Have you made it really clear that you don’t want to see those kind of articles and screenshots? Have you told her you deactivated your accounts to avoid it? If not, I don’t think she’s being malicious - but definitely make it clear.
@doireallyneedaname

Yes, I’ve told her several times. 🙁

OP posts:
saraclara · 11/03/2021 01:05

If you've told her several times that you don't want to see this stuff, she knows that you suffer from health anxiety, and she's still doing it, then she really is not your friend.

If you don't want to block her, at least snooze her on Facebook for a few weeks so you don't have to read this stuff.

Newestname001 · 11/03/2021 04:10

@justanothername2

I'm adding my voice to say please avoid all contact with this person who's just adding to your anxiety. I'm in Group 5, had my vaccine a few weeks ago. Hardly felt the needle go in, the nurse couldn't even find the mark to put a plaster on afterwards! I had a bit of soreness in the injection site plus a bit of a cold for a day or so after but paracetamol and hot drinks saw me through this.

Don't let your "friend's" unhelpful behaviour keep you from getting some protection for yourself. Also everyone I was in contact with on the day were so lovely they would have put me at ease if I'd been anxious. Go for it - I bet you'll feel a sense of relief after the first dose and look forward, as I am, to your second dose. 🌹

VaccineYayVaccineNay · 11/03/2021 06:31

Please get your vaccine. My 36year old fit and healthy DH is currently in hospital with covid pneumonia. I wish we had had a vaccine!

YouAreYourBestThing · 11/03/2021 06:47

Getting mine this afternoon!! Can't wait ☺️ 💉

YouAreYourBestThing · 11/03/2021 06:51

Oh...and block your 'friend'. Nobody needs that kind of shit in their life! No explanation needed, just block and move on with your life.

Ephe17 · 11/03/2021 06:55

Look at the reports on the Yellow Card (UK) and VAERS (US) websites. Many people have symptoms ranging from Covid19 symptoms, cardiac issues, thrombocytopenia, sore arm, death, anaphylaxis etc.

Look up ADE (antibody dependent enhancement) and pathogenic priming.
VADE (vaccine associated disease enhancement) might hamper vaccine development, as a vaccine may trigger the production of antibodies which, via ADE and other mechanisms, worsen the disease the vaccine is designed to protect against This was a concern during late clinical stages of vaccine development against COVID-19.[25][26]

mRNA vaccines are experimental and licensed for emergency use. India rejected Pfizers license application as Pfizer would not do any local trials or provide evidence of safety and efficacy.

Previous attempts at coronavirus mRNA therapy's failed as during animal trials most of the animals died or became gravely ill when later challenged with coronavirus strains in the wild.

This won't help the OP's anxiety Hmm

Let's hope you don't develop diabetes or any long term health condition where experimenting on and with animals was used in the development of drugs for these conditions.

Ephe17 · 11/03/2021 07:10

Let's hope you don't develop diabetes

Thank You. Smile

Obesity and diabetes are major risk factors for mortality from Covid.
Maybe the government can encourage people to lose weight and eat healthily to lower the risk from Covid.

BlackBrowedAlbatross · 11/03/2021 07:31

Good luck OP. I'm a volunteer at a vaccine centre where we vaccinate 1000 people a day and have not seen anyone have any kind of immediate bad reaction. I have seen quite a few scared people and the staff are so kind to them. Everyone understands, so please tell them how you are feeling. (At our centre you would be able to bring someone and have them with you while getting the jab but that might not be true of everywhere.)

It might be a good thing for our CMO to focus on these issues rather than solely focusing only on covid
