Name change for this. I know I’m being overly anxious but I need a hand hold.

My friend is insistent on always sending me doomy messages about the Covid vaccine.

They’re always screen shots of something she’s seen on Facebook. Someone has died, someone has been taken to hospital, someone has had liver failure.
The latest one today is that a 34 year old woman has dropped dead after her vaccine.

Mine is booked for tomorrow and I’m really, really worried.

I already suffer from severe anxiety. I know rationally I shouldn’t pay attention to some random Facebook posts.
I know millions of people have had theirs and have been absolutely fine.

Right now, I’m not rational. I’m panicking and I can’t think clearly.

I’m so close to cancelling my appointment 😭😭

I’ve lived in fear for months now and I’m so looking forward to being vaccinated, but this is just another fear to add to the list 😖

OP posts:
Sally872 · 10/03/2021 16:35

When I am trying to rationalise things I tell myself things like

  1. probably fake news
  2. if not probably not related to vaccine
  3. very unlikely to happen to me
  4. risk of covid is much more likely.
  5. vaccine is our path back to normal life. Everyone who can have it should.

Go for it OP. Thing how pleased you will feel. Flowers

Elliania · 10/03/2021 16:35

If it makes you feel any better I havea wide range of relatives & friends who have had the jab. Including those with underlying health conditions (including lung issues), those who are elderly (70 & 80 +) and a relative who is over 100. None of them have had any side effects outside of a sligtly sore arm, a mild headache and in a couple of cases a day or so of feeling a bit meh.

Please don't read those scaremongering posts - just delete them without reading.

rabbitcow · 10/03/2021 16:36

OP, given that there are sections of the media which are dedicated to spreading hysteria and fear, don't you think we would all have heard about these "cases"? Your friend is an idiot for spreading fake news and tbh it is not helpful to repeat them here. Even if these stories were true, that would be four people out of millions and millions and millions of vaccinations,

I am getting the jab at the weekend, have no qualms whatsoever. Husband has had his and is still very much alive.

peak2021 · 10/03/2021 16:39

It should be your former friend.

More people have died from the virus than died from Nazi bombing of the UK in the second world war. Enough reason to get the virus, and if there are temporary side effects, just plan for the possibility.

KitesFlyingInTheWind · 10/03/2021 16:39

Yes, some people do have side effects and a very few people have serious effects, but the vast, vast majority of people are fine.

peak2021 · 10/03/2021 16:40

I should say the vaccine.

thecatfromjapan · 10/03/2021 16:40

I've had it, my sisters have had it, my parents, in-laws, husband, brother-in-law have had it.

Loads of my friends have had it.

We are all - all of us - fine. More than fine: we're delighted.

Your friend is a loon.

I'm wearing my badge everywhere I can as my own small act of persuading people contra the nut jobs on social media.

Thing is, loads of people have had it now. The numbers are so big, it's hard to translate that into meaningful experience.

You can't tell who's had it, unless they're wearing their badge. But if you go out for a walk, chances are a high proportion of the people you pass will have had the vaccine.

Likewise if you visit a supermarket.

And we're all fine.

Get it. And make some space between you and your friend. If she's nuts about this, she's going to be a crazy drain about many other things.

LIZS · 10/03/2021 16:41

Block your so-called friend. She is deliberately feeding your anxiety.

What badge? My OH has had it and he wasn't given a badge.
SidSparrow · 10/03/2021 16:46

Your friend is genuinely concerned, however, her not taking the vaccine is her choice and you taking the vaccine is your choice. I have done my own research, (not via facebook Smile ) and have decided that I will wait as long as possible before taking the vaccine. I am young, fit and healthy, and very able to stay at home if unwell. I'd rather see how those who are vaccinated get through next winter and then decide. My research, my decision, and I wouldn't put it on anyone. I just follow the mantra with my friends, oh yes, vaccine, can't wait! But a new type of vaccine made in a few months - hmm I'll wait thanks. I do have an opinion of our lives being restricted by companies should people choose not to get vaccinated - but that is another debate!

Wondermule · 10/03/2021 16:50

Remember covid was always going to bring out the false prophets.

People who don’t get the vaccine are taking the chance of getting long covid 🤷🏼‍♀️ No vaccine for stupid is there!

FuzzyPuffling · 10/03/2021 16:50

Read the science. Proper science, not facebook.

Have it.

In fact better than fine, when you've had it the fear of catching the virus will drop away and you'll feel great.

Have it.

Shellingbynight · 10/03/2021 16:52

I was vaccinated a week ago, and 9 of my friends/family have been vaccinated since 14 January. One of them was my frail 86 year old mother. We're all still alive and well.

You say you know you're not being rational. As a step towards rationality, mute/block your friend. I hope you'll come back tomorrow and tell us you've been vaccinated.

thecatfromjapan · 10/03/2021 16:54

@treadlightlyonthisesrth

This one.

(Yes, technically it's a sticker ...)

Close to cancelling my vaccination. Please reassure me.
Wolfiefan · 10/03/2021 16:56

A friend doesn’t spread scare stories and false news.
Block.

thecatfromjapan · 10/03/2021 16:57

It even matches my cardigan!

But the point is, I'm wearing it to show other people that the vaccinated walk amongst them.

And we're fine.

Our 5G signal hasn't improved.

We can't time-travel.

We're just vaccinated.

dropthedeadhorse · 10/03/2021 16:58

OP, hundreds of thousands of people have dropped dead from Covid. Getting the vaccine reduces your chances of being one of those. Not getting the vaccine is far more risky than getting it.

Abraxan · 10/03/2021 17:01

This person isn't acting like a friend.

I had mine vaccine 2 weeks ago today. Had a sore arm and a bit of a headache. Fine within 24 hours.

I had Covid four months ago, was in hospital, had 7 weeks off work and 4+ months later I'm still not fully better. And since Covid I now have an additional medical issue ending two extra tablets daily, plus regular health check ups with the nurse and doctor.

I know which has been hardest to deal with and it certainly wasn't the vaccine.

giletrouge · 10/03/2021 17:04

thecatfromjapan are you sure you haven't got a tiny Bill Gates running round your veins waving his arms and yelling 'I'm in here!'? Grin
OP - I'm jabbed my partner is jabbed my daughters (NHS workers) are jabbed one of my son-in-laws is jabbed my elderly 93 year old neighbour is jabbed her friend is jabbed her daughter is jabbed my friend with severe ME is jabbed and on and on...all fine. Some side effects but all better now, nothing any of us couldn't handle, even the 93 year old - who has asthma.
Just do it. Your 'friend' is bonkers.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/03/2021 17:08

@JanuaryJonez

Is this the article you mean?

www.livemint.com/news/world/austria-suspends-astrazeneca-covid-19-vaccine-batch-after-death-11615116433579.html

It is a bit worrying as they've destroyed the particular vaccine batch that the woman had. Can you raise your concern with them and ask when you arrive to be vaccinated if you can rebook for the Pfizer one?

What is your source fir saying they've destroyed that batch?

@justanothername2

No one in the trials had blood thickening.

I have had two Aunties die of a dislodged blood clot & one of a pulmonary embolism both suddenly, neither previously aware of any issues. PRE COVID.

Having had the vaccination, doesn't mean it caused her death, if fact it's incredibly unlikely that it did. They have just stopped using that batch, due to extreme caution.

MILLIONS have had this vaccination now, if it was causing any issues, we'd know about it by now.

I had mine 5 weeks ago, as gave lots of family/friend & hundreds of MNers up & down the country, they could not keep it quiet if there were problems.

Ignore your dipshit 'friend'. Sending friends things you think will benefit them us one thing, sending shit to people, with an alarmist take & no actual source is shitty. You should really think about this 'friendship'

DeadButDelicious · 10/03/2021 17:09

They aren't your friend. Deliberately feeding your anxiety in order to influence your health care decisions is not a friendly act.

I had mine (AstraZeneca) nearly two weeks ago and I am fine. My arm was a bit sore and I was a bit tired (I have a toddler though, I'm always tired 😂) and that was literally it. Anyone I know who's felt unwell afterwards was fine in a matter of hours, a couple of days at most.

Get the vaccine.

Ditch the 'friend'.

Suzi888 · 10/03/2021 17:10

Go and get it. My family have pre existing conditions and are in their eighties, they’ve all had the vaccine now. Sore arms and a bit tired for a few days.

It is extremely rare to have such a bad reaction to a vaccine. Do you have other vaccines, flu etc? They’ll have an anaphylactic shock kit there on the table in the extremely unlikely event you react- there will literally be loads of medical staff their to assist!
Your ‘friend’ is not helping you is she, you need to unfollow her on fb!

Krazynights34 · 10/03/2021 17:11

Op I had my AstraZeneca shot on Sunday. I did feel very fatigued the next day but my DD never sleeps and I was up from 4am).
I was watching the frail, elderly, overweight etc people (I’m also overweight btw) coming out from their jabs and all I could see was relief!

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/03/2021 17:11

Your research obviously wasn't up to much if you're still spouting utter nonsense about how quickly it was made 🙇🏻‍♀️ 🙄🙄. Try a bit more 'research'.
HavfrueDenizKisi · 10/03/2021 17:12

@MolyHolyGuacamole

I don't understand why fake stories on SM about the vaccine will make you not want to have it, but the very real stories of the millions of death doesn't?
This in every possible way.
