Hi all, having covid vaccination Sunday! Pretty sure it will be AZ we know a fair few people who have had it in same place and it’s been AZ.

I’m really pleased of course but what kind of side effects should I be concerned about? I know everyone is different but heard a few stories of people feeling poop after having it!

What do I expect?

Somebody told me they felt ill for 2 weeks afterwards yet another said they felt groggy for about 12 hours then fine.

Hoping because I’m having it Sunday I’ll be fine by Monday for the week!

I don’t deal well with being ill with two disabled children (it’s hard work). I know that the vaccination will be better than covid though of course!

I thought I was getting AZ but got Pfizer instead. You get what they receive any given time.

Becca7910 · 26/02/2021 19:14

The day after I had mine I had a temp and felt sick and tired and headache, same day after that. Then more or less back to normal after that. I'd just say make sure you have paracetamol in, easy meals, make your day as easy as poss. I'm the only person out of everyone I know who has had side effects. So fingers crossed for you. Def better than covid as you said xx

Mindymomo · 26/02/2021 19:14

My husband thought he too would have the AZ as all people we knew had that one, but was surprised that he got the Pfizer one. He had a very sore arm and felt not himself for 24 hours, but was still able to do most things.

thenightsky · 26/02/2021 19:14

I had it on a Sunday lunchtime and started to feel ill around 10pm. Had a shockingly bad night with my legs jerking and my neck muscles going into spasms, plus a shocking headache and chattering teeth. I went to bed wearing a coat on top of all my clothes and still felt cold. Had to spend the Monday in bed, dosed up with paracetamol and catching up on missing sleep. Suddenly felt loads better at 10pm on Monday night. Fine by Tuesday.

I’m not begrudging that. I don’t mind which one but I know someone who works at the centre and a few people who have had it there and it’s only been AZ there so far! 😀

I wasn’t planning to do a food shop until Monday or Tuesday. Think I’ll get it done tomorrow just in case I feel ill!! Thanks all!

I thought I was getting AZ but got Pfizer, even though everyone I know who went to same place got AZ, just depends on what they have in that day. Didn’t feel it go in, had a little tingle to let me know it was there, hoping I don’t have too many issues with it. everyone is different and have different or no effects so be prepared for them as best you can

Cloudyrainsham · 26/02/2021 19:28

I had AS yesterday. No side effects, very slight headache first thing and arm is very slightly tender.

tobeamockingbird · 26/02/2021 19:29

I had AZ yesterday morning. I felt fine until the evening, then a sore arm. I’m a bit achy/not quite right today, but nothing awful. I had a couple of paracetamol this morning, and work was manageable. I feel a bit warm now, but still not too bad 🤞

Fleurty · 26/02/2021 19:33

I know a lot of people who work in health care who've had 2 doses. Everyone who has the AZ vaccine has had side effects (generally feeling a bit fluey for 24 hours) on the first jab and nothing on the 2nd. Pfizer is the other way round and are fine on the 1st, side effects on the 2nd.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 26/02/2021 19:37

DH had AZ. Knocked off his feet. Flu like symptoms and can't stay awake.

I was chatting to a gp today and we got on to the subject. He said the side effects are worse with the first dose of AZ and the other way around for Pfizer.

There was talk of mixing them but not sure what the plan is.

ilovesooty · 26/02/2021 19:47

I had no side effects at all, not even a sore arm.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 26/02/2021 19:48

My adult dd had AZ, she had Covid back in Summer too. She felt flu like for 48 hours but still managed to do some housework!
My sister had AZ and was in bed for 24 hours because alomg with flu like symptoms she felt so dizzy.
I was expecting AZ but got given Pfizer today.

lynsey91 · 26/02/2021 19:58

I had the AZ 2 weeks ago. No side effects whatsoever not even a sore arm which I always have with the flu jab. I didn't even realise the guy had done the injection as I felt nothing.

DH had the AZ yesterday morning and no side effects whatsoever. Also my sister and brother in law had it and, again, no side effects. My other sister did have side effects though - headache, temperature, flu like symptoms.

I know more people that have not had side effects than I do that have

DazedandConcerned · 26/02/2021 20:01

I had Oxford/AZ last Saturday. No side effects whatsoever, bruise came up on day 5. I didn’t even have arm pain!

Good luck. Whatever you get it is so worth it.

Oh12lookanothernamechange1234 · 26/02/2021 20:02

I’m the opposite to @lynsey91 and know more people with side effects - mild to more flu like ones. I had a fever about 12 hours after and felt dreadful... middle of the night hot and cold sweats... tired for a few days after. On my team at work a few off sick the next day, of note , they had had covid before.

My mum and dad however both have had AZ and zero side effects at all 🙈🙈

rosie39forever · 26/02/2021 20:04

I had AZ yesterday morning, bit of a sore arm today but feel fine in myself so far.

TheByngster · 26/02/2021 20:06

You really can’t call it, like the virus itself it’ll do its own sweet thing. I was very ‘off’ for a couple of days, a cross between a bad hangover and fierce PMT and then when I thought it was all done I had a fever spike, groin pain, light headedness and nausea. I’m four days post now, and still fatigued. I’ll do the usual gratitude-qualification, but it made me feel absolutely crap.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 26/02/2021 20:06

There’s a fair chance, probably more than 10%, that you’ll be feeling like shit all of Monday, so plan accordingly just in case, make sure you have lots of paracetamol in the house, and super-easy food for you and the DC, and definitely get your food shopping done in advance.

MarieFromStTropez · 26/02/2021 20:10

I had my vaccine yesterday morning. Didn’t sleep well last night, weird dreams and feeling very feverish. Tired today and everything aches. Hope to feel better tomorrow.

But I don’t mind as I’m SO GRATEFUL to get the vaccine.

Anon778833 · 26/02/2021 20:11

I’ve had AZ today, so I’ll update you. My arm ached for a few hours but has now gone off. I feel more tired than usual. I will see how it goes. The nurse said that you shouldn’t feel unwell for more than 2 days.

My friend advised me to take paracetamol before bed time and to use a hot water bottle for an aching arm.

PolarnOPirate · 26/02/2021 20:14

My parents both got AZ this week, my mum had a sore arm and my dad had a hangover type feeling for a day. Which is weird as he doesn’t get hangovers from alcohol 😄

RedcurrantPuff · 26/02/2021 20:16

I got it yesterday. Arm is sore and I felt very tired last night. Got a headache and chills just now but it’s easily managed by paracetamol

CrepuscularCritter · 26/02/2021 20:17

AZ on Sunday for me. I had a little bit of soreness at the injection site and a slight headache on Monday, but that might not have been vaccine related. I was wiped out with tiredness on Thursday, but again that might not be vaccine related. I'm grateful to have had the jab.

Margymoon · 26/02/2021 20:21

I had Pfizer a fortnight ago (thought I was getting AZ) with absolutely no side effect. I said I was allergic to penicillin which was ok.

I made sure I was prepared with paracetamol and had my shopping in though just in case.
