Hi all, having covid vaccination Sunday! Pretty sure it will be AZ we know a fair few people who have had it in same place and it’s been AZ.

I’m really pleased of course but what kind of side effects should I be concerned about? I know everyone is different but heard a few stories of people feeling poop after having it!

What do I expect?

Somebody told me they felt ill for 2 weeks afterwards yet another said they felt groggy for about 12 hours then fine.

Hoping because I’m having it Sunday I’ll be fine by Monday for the week!

I don’t deal well with being ill with two disabled children (it’s hard work). I know that the vaccination will be better than covid though of course!

My dad had the AS jab. Fine on the day, sore arm the next day then fluey the day after. He had aches and felt dreadful but it only lasted 24 hours. I've heard of a couple of people (presumably carers or with health conditions) who have called in sick from work as can't change gear with stiff arm or felt dreadful for 24 hours.

Loopylobes · 26/02/2021 20:27

DD (early 20s) and I both had the AZ 24 hours ago.

She is lying on the sofa feeling like death, dosed up with paracetamol, sore arm, achy, flu symptoms. Whereas I feel absolutely fine. Not even a tender arm. I'd honestly question whether we'd had the same vaccine if I hadn't seen both injections drawn from the same bottle.

Gonegrey31 · 26/02/2021 20:28

I had AZ this morning (12 hours ago), feel fine, hope I stay this way !

PoochiePlush · 26/02/2021 20:29

Most people I know have had Pfizer. Some AZ. Nobody had any side effects not even a sore arm.

Karmatime · 26/02/2021 20:34

I’m just over 24 hours post AZ, I just feel slightly lethargic, but I have days like that anyway so it might not be linked. My arm was much more sore after the flu jab, I have to really poke around to feel anything with this.

HexWitch · 26/02/2021 20:39

DM had the AZ vaccine and it knocked her flat for almost a fortnight.

TooManyMiles · 26/02/2021 20:58

I had a slight headache, slight tiredness for a day then was fine.

Have heard (but don’t know for sure) that people who had covid last year experience a worse reaction because they get a more intense immune response.

Whostolemyhorn · 26/02/2021 21:19

I had AZ yesterday tea time and woke up this morning feeling no different! Then around lunchtime today I developed a slight high temperature and felt a bit washed out but still able to function, do housework, home schooling etc... I had heard so many horror stories some was really worried (I don't cope well with feeling ill) but I've honestly had worse colds. Drink lots of water, take some paracetamol and have a nice cosy dressing gown day and hopefully you'll be fine Thanks

Whostolemyhorn · 26/02/2021 21:24

Just to add, I know 9 others who had the AZ a few weeks before me and only 2 out of those 8 felt anything but both were reasonably mild and lasted less than 24hrs

Claireshh · 26/02/2021 21:30

I had AZ vaccine this morning at 9am. Slightly achy arm this afternoon. This evening I have been chittering as I feel so cold. Hands and feet are freezing. My temp is now 37.7 so I’ve taken paracetamol.

MintyCedric · 26/02/2021 21:35

I'm having mine on Sunday too.

Have a shopping delivery tomorrow and getting the housework out of the way so that come Sunday I don't have to do anything if I feel a bit crap.

Making a roast chicken dinner tomorrow night, and will turn the leftovers in a vat of chicken & veg soup which will do me for dinners for a couple of days.

DD16 will cook for herself if needs be.

TinkerPony · 26/02/2021 21:37

Had AZ. Mild symptoms.
On the day after the jab while waiting post vaccination for 15mins i start to feel queasy. About 1. 5 hour later got headache took painkillers felt tired run down then by evening was all fine again. No arm pain notjing.
Much eadier than the flu jab and so surprise with my arm no side effect at all. With the flu jab sore achy bruising arm hard to lift. Covidjab nothing even the injection was a tiny pinch. Im sure the flu injection was more ouchy. Wonder if needles sizing or placement of injection site differ?

MintyCedric · 26/02/2021 21:37

BTW I know 4 people who have had Pfizer and 2 who have had AZ...none of them had any side effects.

AnxiousAlpaca · 26/02/2021 21:39

Just had mine this morning but it was Pfizer. Arm hurts but it’s not agony or anything and just feel really lethargic now

CuntasarusRex · 26/02/2021 21:39

I had AZ, I had it on a Thursday evening, I felt rough Friday and Saturday, like I'd been hit by a bus, but felt fine from the Sunday.

FlamingGoat · 26/02/2021 21:42

Had AZ Monday morning. Was fine until 7pm then I was like a block of ice, went to bed shivering in pj's, dressing gown, heated throw. Muscles hurt, cramping legs, felt like I had mastatis , then in the morning the fever started, high temp, and horrendous headache. Wednesday I was exhausted and back to normal Thursday but have a cough/cold/runny nose.
Oh it's been fun!

LJenn · 26/02/2021 21:48

OP you may or may not have any side affects. I had MILD side affects in comparison to my colleagues and what I experienced was aches and pains, and extreme tiredness. My colleagues experienced horrendous headaches, temperatures, aches and pains, shivers, nausea and vomiting. Their and my symptoms lasted 24/48 hours. I'd definitely take it easy the next day just incase. Good luck!

alpenguin · 26/02/2021 22:02

I didn’t have any of the listed side effects but my arthritis did flare for a day. Site of jab wasn’t even sore. Neither of my parents had any side effects.

KilljoysDutch · 26/02/2021 22:06

I had AZ Wednesday and I've been perfectly fine. Was hungry and have a bit of a sore arm but less so than with the flu jab. I expected to be ill (shite immune system) but have been fine. I have been wondering however if the fact that I've been taking vitamin D could have made a difference since more studies are showing it decreases the severity of Covid.

Pieceofpurplesky · 26/02/2021 22:15

I had Pfizer yesterday -
My arm is sore and yesterday was burning for a couple of hours. Nothing more than that - although I have had a raging thirst.

Also advised no alcohol!

Els1e · 26/02/2021 22:21

My 80+ mum absolutely fine apart a bit of headache. Did admit though, it could have been the couple of glasses of Cava, followed by hot chocolate and brandy (she was celebrating the beginning of the end of being locked up)

Elouera · 26/02/2021 22:31

I read that those over 65 tend to have milder symptoms than younger people and the 2nd dose causes less symptoms. I'm 42 and had the AZ one a week ago:

  • For context, a flu vaccine normally causes me a tender area on the arm for a day or 2 and thats it. No other symptoms
  • AZ vaccine caused a sore arm for 4 days and it was painful to lift my arm up for 2 days
  • The 1st night, I had painful knee joints. I do have mild arthritis in 1 knee, but both were painful and achy.
  • Next day I felt generally a bit achy and off, but carried on

I took some paracetamol but continued working and carrying on with normal things, despite minor symptoms.

Nith · 26/02/2021 22:34

I just had a sore arm for a few days.

PollyDarton1 · 26/02/2021 22:37

Had the AZ vaccination yesterday 3:45pm.

Woke up and felt a bit wobbly but could have easily been anxiety as I had a training session to deliver.

Felt a bit hot and flushed but temp read fine. Took some paracetamol as felt a bit headachy (again, not super unusual as I suffer from migraines).

Arm is ever so slightly sore but nothing major.

Hopefully I'll have escaped unscathed, I've got to work all weekend and entertain a 4 year old!

OrangeSamphire · 26/02/2021 22:40

Hi OP, I have two disabled children too and was worried about the same thing.

Do either of your children have a PA or respite care?

I organised my vaccine for the morning of the day my youngest goes to overnight respite care and for when my DH would be available to look after our other child, just in case I felt awful.

It helped as I was able to not do much the day I had the vaccine, except work from my armchair, and then I went to bed early with a paracetamol and slept knowing I would not be interrupted in the night.

I can’t say for sure but I think it helped. Felt a bit rough the afternoon after the jab, but fine by the next day.
