And there is a few months to go are you worried about the relaxing of the rules? I’m worried as to how to protect myself..very worried I’ll catch it this time Sad

OP posts:
WaitingForNormality · 25/02/2021 16:11

Slightly worried yes - I'm pregnant so although CV (pregnant women are considered CV, particularly in the third trimester) I'm unable to have the vaccine. I'm only 29 so wouldn't be likely to be vaccinated until late June anyway, regardless. So I'll be enjoying some of the relaxations but remaining pretty vigilant until the baby is born.

DH is a teacher, and is unvaccinated (31 so will be in the last batch of vaccinated people as no health issues) and DC also attend school so there is some risk to me of them catching it and bringing it home to me.

Another123 · 25/02/2021 16:11

Yes because I will be 8 months pregnant when lockdown eases. I am classed as vulnerable but no vaccine for me. Concerned about catching it and not being able to visit baby if they are in neonatal. Concerned about labouring alone if DH gets it.

We will continue to isolate until after the birth. I just hope the vaccinated are giving up their online supermarket slots so we can get one now!

Blackberrycream · 25/02/2021 16:11

The next few weeks will be a bit worrying for the cv groups in group 6 and older parents in groups 7, 8 and 9 with schools reopening. Many won’t be getting the vaccine for another few weeks. Even then it is 3 weeks until the effects kick in. I imagine there will be a spike in infections and worse in this group.

MacDuffsMuff · 25/02/2021 16:13

@RampantIvy

No. It's no different to how things were last year. Just continue to socially distance, wash hands and wear a mask.
This is key. If people continue to do this over the next few months I think it will make all the difference.

zoemum2006 vaccine resistant virus variants are rare:

mindutopia · 25/02/2021 16:14

No, because life for me won't be changing. I'll still be doing my shopping online and I'll still be working from home. Dh doesn't work from home, but he doesn't see anyone during the day either as he works completely alone from his business. Youngest dc has been in nursery since June (no change) and school age one will be back to school, but obviously was in school from Sept-Dec with no problems. Neither school or nursery has had a single case or any bubbles needing to self isolate since the start, so no more worried than I've ever been. But to be fair, it's going to be a few months before anything is back to anything close to normal and I'll have most certainly have at least a first vaccine by then anyway.

Loopyloututu2 · 25/02/2021 16:15

OP - you are young and slim with no medical conditions. The likelihood is if you catch it you’ll be fine. You may have already had it and been asymptomatic (apparently this is around a third of people who catch it). I can understand the fact you are BAME makes you worry more but the links to higher levels of BAME people becoming seriously ill still need much more investigation - it’s not the colour of your skin or ethnicity that is making people more likely to be very ill but socio-economic factors (people from BAME backgrounds generally being more likely to be overweight, living in poverty, multi-generational living, low levels of vit D etc). I’m not necessarily saying I agree with this - just this is my understanding of the reasons why the BAME community has been hit harder.
Try not to let project fear get to you. Worrying is like walking around with an umbrella in the sunshine waiting for it to rain (as my dm likes to say). You have to go to work, your child has to go to school - you can’t hole yourself up so try not to worry. Even the elderly and vulnerable are much more likely to be fine if they catch covid than not.

I can see why you're saying this but I honestly think that it may not be as bad as that. I work in a school and the measures in place are pretty strict (although I get that may vary from school to school). In my experience, it's outside of school that the problems arise when parents allow their children to mix with other children who are not in their bubble. That appears to be where most of our infections stemmed from (although we haven't had that many really). Or children having a positive result and still being sent into school (we've had that happen a few times but the kids always tell you anyway!). If people do the right thing and see it through for the next few months then hopefully it won't be too bad. I really hope not anyway for all our sakes.
ellenpartridge · 25/02/2021 16:18

No not worried. The numbers are coming way down so I expect to be fine for the next couple of months or so until I get a jab.

FuckyouBrennan · 25/02/2021 16:20

Nope not at all. I don’t live a risk free life, I go out in my car most days, cross roads most days, go on aeroplanes & trains.

I cannot wait to start living again as a opposed to just existing and the same for my children.

VaVaGloom · 25/02/2021 16:20

I don't want to catch Covid just like I wouldn't want to catch D&V as from friends accounts it sounds unpleasant. I'm not particularly worried though as in 40's and statistically not high risk, nor are my children. Now my Mum has had her jab I feel reassured as, by virtue of age, she was the most vulnerable out of the people I love.

I am more worried about my childrens education and am looking forward to uninterrupted, focused work time.

Could you speak to occupational health at work or your GP about your concerns as they may give you strategies to help. Also try and focus on the positives about lockdown beginning to be eased - your DC being able to see friends etc

justanotherneighinparadise · 25/02/2021 16:21

I’m nearly 50 and I’m not bothered one jot.

iceicesunsun · 25/02/2021 16:21

@ellenpartridge

No not worried. The numbers are coming way down so I expect to be fine for the next couple of months or so until I get a jab.
The numbers are coming way down but they are most likely to be coming down in the elderly/older people or people who are CEV who are less likely to be coming into contact with others. The numbers need to be coming down in people who are still out and about and mixing with others in the workplace.
shamalidacdak · 25/02/2021 16:23

If course I'm worried which is why I'm staying put until I've had the jab. TBH I've enjoyed a quieter slower pace of life this last year and in no hurry to rush back into a busy world.

Fiona2020 · 25/02/2021 16:25

God no get me OUT! I’ve had it anyways and it really wasn’t horrendous!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 25/02/2021 16:26

Not worried at all.

Take vitamin d and keep your weight down.

I’m more worried about wasting my life at home

LadyCatStark · 25/02/2021 16:27

Not in the slightest!

lightand · 25/02/2021 16:27

No. Had it. Very few people seem to get it twice. If I do, I do. I refuse to go about life being worried. I want to enjoy my life, not be fretting all the time.

MacDuffsMuff · 25/02/2021 16:29

@Fiona2020

God no get me OUT! I’ve had it anyways and it really wasn’t horrendous!
To be fair, that isn't the case for everyone. I can understand why some people are worried.
Awalkintime · 25/02/2021 16:32

Yep I'm worried, I work in a school ECV and not eligible for the vaccine. Plus with being under 40, there is no chance I will get mine for months yet.

No distancing, no PPE, no masks just a wing and a prayer I don't catch it.

user1487194234 · 25/02/2021 16:38

Not worried at all.Risk is vanishingly small and getting smaller. Can't wait to get out and about

MrsFezziwig · 25/02/2021 16:40

DipSwimSwoosh
No but CO OP was so full of elderly people yesterday I couldn't even get in.
They are definitely becoming a self confident army now!
They’ve been vaccinated so think they are immune.

Could you be any more patronising?

Blackberrycream · 25/02/2021 16:40

@MacDuffsMuff I hope you’re right! It does seem like most are being careful and I was impressed with how my sons’ school handled the situation. I have seen groups of teenagers out on our walks but it is the same faces and like you say, it is the out of school socialising that is the main cause of outbreaks. One of my sons got invited to a party in January! I was taken aback to put it mildly.

DisgruntledPelican · 25/02/2021 16:40

Not at all worried (and I do get very anxious about a lot of other aspects of life) - I do as much as I can to keep myself and others safe.

Takemebackto98 · 25/02/2021 16:42

Not everyone who is vulnerable will be vaccinated before schools etc re-open, despite the government & media’s consistent messages that they will be.

The majority of asthmatics, for example, aren’t being prioritised for the vaccine despite coming under the ‘clinically vulnerable’ category On the NHS website and evidence of being at higher risk of hospitalisation if not death.
