And there is a few months to go are you worried about the relaxing of the rules? I’m worried as to how to protect myself..very worried I’ll catch it this time Sad

Nothing is changing for me until I get the vaccine, other than my kids returning to school (homeschooling is not for me). Still won’t be meeting up / going to supermarkets etc. Y’all can crack on with your nightclubs but I’m staying home until I have some level of protection.

MaverickSnoopy · 25/02/2021 15:31

Yes. Very nervous. I have a high BMI and a seemingly mild cough wipes me out. Every cough I've ever had has always turned into bronchitis and left me very unwell in bed for weeks. Not ideal with 3 young children. Have completely changed my diet to lose weight, but it's a slow process and so far I'm only 1 stone down (4 to go until I feel safer). My 2yo also gets VERY unwell and is susceptible to infections which have put her in hospital twice, once for surgery. She reacts to everything, even the cold and seems so sensitive to everything. I would feel so much better if social distancing would go on for longer, if there were proper measures in schools and if I had had the vaccine. I do however fully appreciate that no one is going to 100% get what they want but I wish there was a better way to strike more of a balance for everyone.

oakleaffy · 25/02/2021 15:32

It will be us, the unvaccinated who will get ill.
There are also many in so say risk groups who don’t want jabs which seems odd.
Some People I know are getting second jab soon.

Long before everyone has been done for first.

Mrgrinch · 25/02/2021 15:35

Not at all and I will be making maximum use of all relaxations.

There are plenty of other ways to die and I'm not worried about those either.

oakleaffy · 25/02/2021 15:37

@DipSwimSwoosh

No but CO OP was so full of elderly people yesterday I couldn't even get in.
They are definitely becoming a self confident army now! They’ve been vaccinated so think they are immune.
AnxietyDrivingMyLife · 25/02/2021 15:37

I’m 40, BAME, size 6 - no known underlying conditions but I will need to go back to work- every cough cold I have had in the past came from work- pretty sure COVID will be the next one to
come from work. Have 1 child in primary who will start school. I do feel very scared that this will be the ‘hospital bed’ scenario for me..

OP posts:
Oblomov21 · 25/02/2021 15:38

Nope.
Endless threads on mn by those with severe anxiety doesn't help.

AnxietyDrivingMyLife · 25/02/2021 15:38

This is the problem- the older generation will not be as careful which is going to start the spread again in the not vaccinated

Not sure where I'll fall on the list. 40, no conditions for concern, just about in healthy weight (despite the lockdown lard), low risk lifestyle.

I want to be ill as much as I want any other illness, and for my situation, it is just any other illness. I don't live in fear of flu or post-viral fatigue.

I want to crack on with living while I'm still in the good years, not sitting around wasting my fitness because there's no classes, parkruns or races coming up. While I'm on good form, I want to keep it that way... I'm only 8 years younger than when DF had his first heart attack. He was dead 4 years later (I was still a child).

I'm not so afraid of death or ill health to forget to live well while I can. There's no guarentees of anything.

I've spent a third of my 30s restricted by Covid and difficult pregnancies and heavy recovery births. Too much youth has passed already.

Violetlavenders · 25/02/2021 15:40

No, I'm not worried.

I'd rather not catch Covid, like I'd rather not catch the Flu, but I'm happy to send my teens back to school.

JoeBidenIsGreat · 25/02/2021 15:47

I'm not afraid of the virus.
I don't want the sodding vaccine.

I'm a lot more worried about covid controls that continue forever without justification or proportionality, than I am about virus.

Sadly I find it pretty easy to avoid people so will just continue doing that myself as long as we're supposed to. I don't care what other people do or don't do about catching the virus.

EarlGreywithLemon · 25/02/2021 15:47
@flappityflippers1 - you're allowed the jab when breastfeeding. I'm having it on the 6th March and I'm still feeding my son.

See:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-women-of-childbearing-age-currently-pregnant-planning-a-pregnancy-or-breastfeeding
And I had mine last week and am breastfeeding. It’s not even a question they ask.

EarlGreywithLemon · 25/02/2021 15:51

I’ve had my jab but I’m scared for my husband, who hasn’t. Luckily we can still work from home and try to avoid others as much as possible until he’s had it. I’m also hoping to TTC after my second dose, so, if pregnant I’ll maintain a degree of caution even after we’ve both been vaccinated. Our daughter is a toddler, so I’m hoping kids will be vaccinated at some point too, and that this bastarding thing doesn’t mutate to affect them more in the meantime.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 25/02/2021 15:53

It is increasingly noticeable that many under 40s aren’t worried (I can see why) but many of those over 40 but under 60 are because age is becoming an issue, health checks have identified areas of concern and so on. I think it’s this group which have been forgotten and they are also the group who will a) be out working b) have childcare responsibilities and c) have elderly relatives to care for too.

Once I have had the vaccine, I will take my risks like the 30 year olds!

turquoisewaters · 25/02/2021 15:54

I'm not worried but I will continue to take precautions

wigglerose · 25/02/2021 15:57

No, not really. I've generally done everything that is permitted under the rules and haven't caught it. I don't think this will be any different.

NuttyinNotts · 25/02/2021 15:58

As a parent of a school aged child, I'm pretty convinced I'll get covid before I'm offered the vaccination. I'm not going to do anything except meet people socially distanced outside until I get the vaccine.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 25/02/2021 15:58

@flappityflippers1 - really glad to help, and happy that you feel relieved. I was very relieved too when they clarified the guidance about having it Smile

truetuesdays · 25/02/2021 15:58

@JoeBidenIsGreat I agree wholeheartedly.

Life is full of enough risks already, this is turning people into a quivering wreck we can't live our lives in fear anymore

TheSparkleJar · 25/02/2021 15:59

Why should the perfectly fit and able be punished more
We are already being shunted to bottom of vaccination list , let us have our Spring and enjoy the nice weather and see friends and family.

Presumably only perfectly fit friends and family. Out of interest, how would you feel if it turned out that one of your loved ones had actually had an undiagnosed underlying condition? Or someone else one of them is in contact with?

Would you still think that you had a nice day at the time, sooo...

Siepie · 25/02/2021 15:59

Nope. I'm in my 30s and healthy.

I spent my early 20s doing things more risky than catching covid. White water rafting in areas we were told not to enter for example. I'm no longer quite that foolhardy but I'm generally not afraid of illness or death.

uytp · 25/02/2021 15:59

Yes I'm worried, partly because I'm pregnant so I know I won't be getting the jab until after lockdown has been fully lifted. We intend to be extremely careful until after I've given birth, been vaccinated and allowed time for immunity to develop.

TheSparkleJar · 25/02/2021 16:05

I'm fine with being patient.

I think I could get the jab now because I'm a carer, but we're both being very careful so I'm happy to wait a while.

I'll go and get it when the relaxing starts because people will once again fling themselves outside like an invisible starter's pistol just went off, and then act shocked when cases spike again a month later. I live at a tourist spot by the coast and I'm fully expecting a repeat of the literal shitshow from last year this summer. At least we shouldn't have to hide inside this time. We can see the rubbish and the portable bbq fires in person.

iceicesunsun · 25/02/2021 16:07

Yes. I am over 50, have an underlying condition, work with vulnerable people and have adult DCs at school.

zoemum2006 · 25/02/2021 16:10

I am very worried about children returning to schools (which scientists say will increase rates by 50%).

These are the conditions in which mutations can happen. The huge concern is it creates a vaccine resistant variant (keeps fingers crossed this doesn't happen!)

It's too soon to send millions of kids back to school.
