Vaccine side effects

I've got my Covid jab booked for Friday and DH is tomorrow. Thrilled, tbh. A big step in getting out of this dense gloom.

But I want to be realistically prepared. I don't know if we are having AZ or Pfizer jabs. I suppose we could have different. Can anyone who experienced side effects please let me know what they were and how long they lasted? I have a high needs DD to care for and I want to be sure I'll still feel capable if I were to experience the side effects.

My Dad (over 70) had AZ the other week. Had a headache and felt a bit 'fluey' the next day. Was fine after that. FIL (over 80) had Pfizer - felt a bit unwell for a couple of days, but was up and about doing things.

JenIsAGem · 23/02/2021 17:09

I had Pfizer at end of Jan.

I had quite a bad headache the day after mine, and generally really fatigued. I have a young DS and it affected me looking after him. Luckily DH was working from home so was able to offer help while I rested in bed, I would've really struggled otherwise.

No regrets at all though! This is hopefully our way of getting out of this mess.

Good luck!

SkintHippy · 23/02/2021 17:12

I had the pfizer on Saturday. I felt unwell on Sunday and yesterday, mostly fatigue, aching muscles, a bit nauseated. But fine today! Good luck OP, it's worth it.

Virginvodkaandcoke · 23/02/2021 17:30

I had the AstroZ jab yesterday evening (I'm CEV). Felt ok to start with, but woke up around 4am shivering and was sick several times. Have had a hard day with tiredness, headache and aching limbs. Paracetomol has helped, but it wears off in a couple of hours and the symptoms return. DH (HCP) had the Pfizer a few weeks ago. He had a headache and tiredness, but was still able to work. I'm going to try to rebook my second jab for an evening when DH is around the next day to look after the DC. I would advise considering what your commitments are in the following 24hrs before booking the vaccine.

It’s believed that you have a greater likelihood of reaction if you have had covid. Also, those who are older are more likely to have the least reaction.

littlegirlost · 23/02/2021 17:34

I had my second Pfizer dose yesterday. Sore arm and that's it!!

Lovely1a2b3c · 23/02/2021 17:35

Three of my family members have had theirs in the last fortnight.

Two of them had the Pfizer - one had an achey arm but was otherwise fine (and is quite moany when it comes to illness generally!); the other felt shivery and had a slightly high temperature at night but was fine in the day.

One had the Astrazenica, he felt a bit achey and took Ibuprofen for two days but is also fine.

sereema92 · 23/02/2021 17:36

1st dose Pfizer mild ache in arm. 2nd dose Pfizer generalised aches for 24 hrs. Far better than getting Covid!

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 23/02/2021 17:52

One of us Pfizer one AZ.....vaguely bruised feeling arm and tired, nothing else.

FuckingFabulous · 23/02/2021 17:54

All very encouraging, thanks!

I had AstraZeneca last Friday. Saturday I felt like I had flu and had to stop working and go back to bed. Woke up back to normal on Sunday. My arm really hurt Saturday and Sunday but all in all it was fine.

Batshittery · 23/02/2021 18:00

Me and DH both had Pfizer just over 2 weeks ago. No side effects other than sore arm at point of injection. We knew 4 others having the jab the same day and none had side effects. Ages between late 40's to mid 60's if that makes a difference.

cheeseisthebest · 23/02/2021 18:01

Fluey shivery and achy for 24 hours. Started in the evening after an afternoon jab. Had to take regular paracetamol and stayed in bed.
Absolutely fine after that.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 23/02/2021 18:29

Pfizer here. No side effects other than a sore arm for 24 hours.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/02/2021 18:45

I had Oxford/AZ on Saturday morning. I've had two days of moderate temperature, chills, aches, sleeping a lot etc and today I am still knocked out with fatigue.

BUT...I have a highly over reactive immune system (lupus)so it is to be expected.

And I have no regrets at all about having the vaccine. Imagine if I'd got covid?

starfish4 · 23/02/2021 18:50

I had the AstraZeneca one, started feeling a bit sick after about six hours - still managed to eat a massive tea with no increased sickness. I found it hard to sleep the first night (think I was too invigorated after the happiness of getting the vaccine and a trip out!). Felt a bit headachy and tired for about a week. It was nothing I couldn't live with and can't wait to have my second vaccine. Two friends have the AZ one as well, so side effects at all.

AgnesNaismith · 23/02/2021 18:53

I had AZ and woke up in the night with chills, back pain, nausea and a headache. By the next evening all side effects had passed. I do suspect I had Covid last summer and I’m also susceptible to side effects from anything Blush. Still completely worth it though I know to book a day off work after my second.

DH had AZ with no side effects at all.

bumblenbean · 23/02/2021 18:58

Had AZ Sunday evening. Woke up 6.30am shivering uncontrollably but went away with paracetamol. Bit hot and sweaty then felt absolutely exhausted Monday afternoon and had to go back to bed. Monday night, very tired and bit achy. Have been pretty much fine today, just a bit fatigued and arm a little sore but not to the extent of stopping me doing anything.

Anecdotally, I know 5 other people who’ve had AZ of various ages. Only one has had significant side effects and hers were very intense flu symptoms for 2 days. She couldn’t get out or bed and could barely move arm. Age 36. But as I say; the others were fine (two felt a bit tired but that’s it).

Ohcomeonitsrubbish · 23/02/2021 19:00

AZ vaccine yesterday (Group 6). OK all yesterday, and feel utterly dreadful today. Ache, shivering, no appetite, headache. All of these messages give me hope that I'll be feeling much better in the morning. And no matter how horrid I feel, I am so, so, so happy I've had the vaccine that I don't care!

Choconuttolata · 23/02/2021 20:01

I have delayed mine to next week because DH was having his (AZ) and we have an ASD child who is high needs as well as two other children. Glad I did as he was unwell for 3 days. Everyone's reaction is different, my Dad had no side effects, his female friend was unwell for 5 days so I just erred in the side of caution and made sure we spaced the appointments out.

DinosaurDiana · 23/02/2021 20:05

I had AZ. Felt a bit off that night.
Next day felt exhausted with chills up my spine. Had to go back to bed for the afternoon.
Next day ok.

Weaverspin · 23/02/2021 20:25

Pfizer 1st dose. Feels as though my arm - where I had the jab - has been hit by a hammer (very sore, feeling bruised, hot, itchy), but no side effects apart from that.

2boysand1princess · 23/02/2021 20:35

DH had Pfizer on Sunday and so far absolutely nothing. Not even a sore arm. Fingers crossed he won’t have any side effects now he’s a healthy fit 45year old and hasn’t had covid before.
Also my dad had Oxford and also zero symptoms. He was sure they missed his arm lol. He’s also healthy and never had covid before and is 66 years old

mummabubs · 23/02/2021 20:38

I had the Pfizer jab, literally no sode effects for me at all. (and I usually suffer after the flu jab every year!)

Babycatxher · 23/02/2021 20:39

I had the AZ on Friday morning. Felt a bit rough and tired Saturday (just like I hadn't slept well really) and was fine by Sunday. I haven't even had a sore arm since then either.
