People who would like lockdown indefinitely

Some of the threads on here have me thinking of my mother. She’s no longer with us but l know that if she were still alive then this pandemic would have been a gift from god.

Put bluntly she had no life, she never wanted to leave the house, go to work, learn to drive, she had no friends, no hobbies, no interest in anything at all except daytime TV and having a drink.

She knew that she was judged for her lifestyle and she knew she was very much in the minority and deep down it bothered her.

She loved snowy weather - snow days meant you couldn’t leave the house! No one judged you for staying in all day, you were fully expected to stay at home.

The pandemic has allowed people like this to relax and be safe in the knowledge that no one is expected to leave the home. All the people in my circle continually calling for further lockdown are people who don’t or don’t like working, never go anywhere, never do anything and have few friends and no outside interests.

People with young children who are not sending them back to school at all - I suspect so they don’t have to bother getting dressed to take them. It’s the same type of people!

No one that I know who is working, who has hobbies, friends, interests are calling for further lockdowns - only people with no lives anyway.

Anyone else notice this?

Absolutely and there's a vocal minority of them on MN. You're getting grief from people here but, you know, you were the one who knew her.

Thank goodness most people want to live and not exist.

catatecheese · 22/02/2021 20:20

Yes some people have loved it! and yes it's a certain type especially with the ones who are against schools reopening.
I don't know a single working person who is not desperate for schools and some normality to return.

Chailatteplease · 22/02/2021 20:22

OP do you have children? Why on earth do you think it’s more difficult to get dressed than keep children home all day and homeschool them? Confused

HermioneWeasley · 22/02/2021 20:22

YANBU, some people are (inexplicably) loving this. It’s been a fucking YEAR.

missymoomoomoomoomoo · 22/02/2021 20:23

Do you know what I get annoyed with? Idiots who post about missing their holidays/gym/all the other stuff without a second thought to people who couldn't afford such things. Idiots.

And then follow it up with, well its a loss of freedom. Just take a moment

This.

DS had travelled extensively before his first birthday and this one here is saying people who call for longer lockdowns are not fulfilled.

There is a huuuge middle ground that you're conveniently ignoring. But you enjoy your observations if they enrich your life.

Isolatedizzy · 22/02/2021 20:25

God forbid that people might might still be cautious because they are mid fifties and still a while away from a vaccine or having some immunity from the vaccine! And there is still an average of 11,000 people per day catching covid!

There's still another 30,000 people going to die in the next few months, maybe they don't want their family & friends to be included in that figure?

But no, they are just lazy and like being at home in their Pyjamas! 🙄!

allsayingthesamething · 22/02/2021 20:26

This is the most mean-spirited OP I've seen in a while.

Loopylobes · 22/02/2021 20:27

I can look through my Facebook feed and all the people who don’t want lockdown to end, who don’t want the schools to open are the people who don’t work, don’t like working, don’t leave their house anyway, don’t go anywhere, take their children anywhere etc.

That probably says more about the type of people you associate with than the general population.

I have a job, friends and a hobby. I've been working throughout lockdown, either in a beautiful building that I've had to myself or at home.

I've enjoyed many aspects of lockdown and so have my family members who have ASD. I much prefer the online version of work meetings and other new ways of working that have come with lockdown. I like that we haven't had many visitors at home but I've still me friends for walks.

I have also always loved snow days and duvet days.

I wouldn't mind one bit if lockdown went on for longer, if it were not for the people who would be harmed by it continuing.

My saving grace is that I don't wear my pyjamas all day so I guess maybe I'm an OK person after all. I would be awfully upset to think that someone like the OP were judging me Hmm

allsayingthesamething · 22/02/2021 20:27

Incidentally we're dressed and having home 'assembly' at 8.45 and I work.

Not enjoying lockdown particularly at all.

Keen for a slow easing because the science works best that way.

This is me. I certainly DO NOT enjoy lockdown in any shape or form but I am in my late 50s, I have a BMI of over 40 and I have a teenager in school so although I am not overly worried, I would definitely have preferred to have at least had my first vaccine before all of the children went back to school so possibly around Easter time. That is a personal preference because DS is pretty OK at home. Just like having all children back immediately suits someone their 30s, slim with young children or children who don't do well with home learning.

That does not mean I want lockdown to continue forever or that I am loving it, I most emphatically am not!

What an unpleasant op

Chailatteplease · 22/02/2021 20:35

@PooRaulsRagDace

I’ve seen umpteen threads today and over the past few weeks (since the start of the vaccination program) that jump on any bit of good news, desperate to stamp out any possibility that the we may be able to start loosening restrictions soon.

The people I know like this say it because it means they may have to go back to work, take the kids to school, have to start actually participating in something of a life rather than being given ‘permission’ to simply stay in their home day in day out.

I see it all over Facebook and on here. I find it baffling.

Oh get over yourself. No one needs to justify the way they live their life to you or anyone else!

Honestly, what are you on?

3JsMa · 22/02/2021 20:36

I'm usually kind and emphatic but this is forcing me to say otherwise.
I hope one day you will be just like your DM...
Karma,genetics,etc...

Chocolo · 22/02/2021 20:38

I don’t think OP has been unpleasant.

I find the honesty refreshing and much more of a reflection of what people in the real world are saying.

I enjoyed the humour too. Wish there were more threads like this on the coronavirus board instead of the swathes of LOCKDOWN 4EVA ❤️

TheSilence · 22/02/2021 20:43

There are some very nasty and spiteful people in the world, and from where I’m sitting, they’re not your mother or the people on your Facebook feed.

fratellia · 22/02/2021 20:45

No irl I’ve found it more those who are in privileged enough positions that they can exist quite comfortably through lockdown who have been most okay about it continuing indefinitely. Generally those wfh or furloughed and no money worries, big house and garden, children with no SEN etc.

I’d assume they are the type who come on here and suggest to ‘redecorate your house, start a new hobby, do baking and crafts!’ to people who are saying they’re sick of lockdown, forgetting that for many of us there isn’t actually the time or funds available to ‘just do’ that. Money barely stretches to cover the bills now so there’s no takeaways or home decoration stuff to enjoy, plus with small children one with SEN there just isn’t a spare moment in the day to do any of that stuff. It’s relentless and dull and horrible :(

RedcurrantPuff · 22/02/2021 20:48

@SonnetForSpring

I really annoys me that people who follow the rules to protect others are judged as having something wrong with them. What a world.
This has definitely been a thing on here, people making out they are following the rules to protect others when it’s really because they want to do it for their own reasons.
PooRaulsRagDace · 22/02/2021 20:50

I don't see it this way. I rather think that people who would like lockdown to last and last god knows for how long, are comfortable enough knowing they aren't going to lose their jobs etc. At the end of day, everyone who is under threat of losing the income, would want lockdown to be over.
Augustwhatacrapname · 22/02/2021 20:57

I don't much enjoy being overcharged for sub-par food in restaurants, shouting conversations in sticky bars or rubbing elbows with leery beery males in pubs

Well just don't go then, that's pretty simple surely

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/02/2021 20:59

There are definitely some people like that around! Or for whom lockdown is no biggie- they don’t have young kids for one thing, they live near lovely countryside etc - and quite enjoy seeing others suffer.

However I’m not sure how many that is!

I think most of the cautious/ negative posts are from people who are just very anxious.

merryhouse · 22/02/2021 21:02

she knew she was judged for her lifestyle... and deep down it bothered her

If she had no hobbies and no friends and didn't go to work, who was doing the judging?

Have a think about that. And it bothered her.
