..can they fuck.

There maybe plenty of reasons why they have too but to lie that it's safe is deplorable.

MummaPI no parents do not think of it as childcare - it's a child's right, to have education!!!

I do find it weird how disinterested so many on MN seem to be in education. I wonder what Malaia thinks about these people.

ktp100 · 22/02/2021 16:57

Yup, it's pure bullshit.

The usual display of rush in and not give two shits there may be regrets later.

Fembot123 · 22/02/2021 16:58
@Fembot123 at my school all teachers are in and some TA's are at home, some are in. The ones at home are managing the Google classroom day to day queries. The teachers do the content and planning for it as well as teach in school. And that's been the case since last year. We are all cannon fodder.
Teachers at my school have been working from home for the entirety of this lockdown.

@ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown

Amazing the amount of posters who open a thread in order to complain about the topic. Might I suggest a little less screen time?
😂😂 love it
Fembot123 · 22/02/2021 16:59
@Fembot123 if we'd been vaccinated I too would think it right to open. Fully and happily. But this is criminal.
And to whoever asked yes I am vulnerable. But no vaccine yet as, despite what the papers say, not all vulnerable have been vaccinated. I'm waiting for my invite.
I hope you get prioritised soon and you are right to place your safety first.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 17:02

@Fembot123 Thank you, it's just a shame the government couldn't have put my health first too. Then over 300 students wouldn't be about to lose a teacher for weeks. I just don't understand why school staff over 50 or vulnerable couldn't have been done last week.

cherry2727 · 22/02/2021 17:13

It's a genuine question to teachers - if your voice were to be heard - what would you suggest the government does in order to safely reopen schools and when?

TheReluctantPhoenix · 22/02/2021 17:20

Schools should be fairly safe but they would be much safer without the selfish people who have ‘had it’ with lockdown and decided not to obey the rules any more. There are far too many threads on here by these people.

In reality, we will be starting at a fairly low base of cases, and with the most vulnerable vaccinated. Although schools open will dramatically increase the r number, vaccinations will start to tug in the other direction.

So, with only 3 weeks after opening (4 in some schools), cases should only increase a little by Easter and then drop again over the holidays. Finally, with the majority of the population vaccinated, Covid will be in retreat.

But....it is precarious. If people behave like they did in December, we will get lockdown 4, which would be truly depressing.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 17:22

@cherry2727 vaccinate, rotas until all done so can maintain social distancing and masks.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 17:23

@TheReluctantPhoenix we had 2 positive cases by 9.30 due to LFT testing. Wonder if they'd been following the rules over half term ?

wizzbangfizz · 22/02/2021 17:26

Absolutely overjoyed and pray they never shut again! As is everyone in the non mumsnet world I have ever come across.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 17:26

If people starting mixing households this will be a nightmare for schools. COVID will be brought into school and then transmitted out of school to other families. Bubbles will burst and more disruption.

I would prefer rotas in Secondary schools to allow for more social distancing.

I would like parents to support mask wearing in Secondaries and ensure their children understand the importance of wearing them properly and not talk pathetically about muzzles! Parents to also encourage general good behaviour in school. Behaviour in school after the last lockdown took a nose dive

Huh? What do you want expect after majority of parents spent the last 9 months juggling home schooling whilst working to keep a roof over their heads ? Kids have been stripped off their social life and confined to their homes for months!!

Do we now have to ensure that kids are sent back to school well behaved, happy and geniuses ? Get a grip! It's been tough for many of us- you can't have it all your way!!!!

Shadeelane · 22/02/2021 17:37

Some people want it both ways. They want all kids back but also happy to break the rules. A kid in my class said he'd visited extended family in the half term break. Brilliant thanks for that. I do think it would have been better to wait until all vulnerable and over 50s are vaccinated. Or like mumsneedwine suggested vaccinate vulnerable school staff. If we have to get up close and personal with people who haven't been sticking to the rules why the fuck should we be ok with that.

Abraxan · 22/02/2021 17:37

Cherry2727

Do you really believe it's too much to ask parents to speak to their children regarding acceptable behaviour in schools and to support schools by encouraging such behaviour expectations?

Seriously?

Anna12345678910 · 22/02/2021 17:37

Have you seen the amazing results of the latest vaccine study @Regulus

 • the number of infections is dropping
 • more importantly the number of people who have the infection and need hospital treatment is falling sharply indeed the number of people that have had the vaccine that need hospital treatment is tiny!
 • look at the data published today
 • if people don't need hospital treatment then the NHS will not be overwhelmed and we can all live again

YES IT IS BLOODY BRILLIANT NEWS

No doubt the doom merchants will be along/have been along with their gloomy outlooks on everything. Glass half full here - avoiding glass half empty in real life in future - life is too short to even engage with the moaners

Indeed, I find this too.

MN world is quite a parallel universe of gloom with a few optimists spread thinly.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/02/2021 17:41

@cherry2727 I am not a teacher. But yes I would expect general good behaviour and respect from pupils

Anna12345678910 · 22/02/2021 17:42

@Fembot123

I’m cannon fodder anyway as school staff but not a teacher so was never allowed to WFH.
You are not cannon fodder - stop with the emotive language.
TheReluctantPhoenix · 22/02/2021 17:43

@mumsneedwine,

It does not surprise me.

Despite vaccinations, the rate of cases dropping has decreased dramatically. Only 11% down on the week today.

It is a shame as it would have been nice to open schools with 3,000 cases per day, rather than the 7-10,000 that I expect (which is not really that low).

sd249 · 22/02/2021 17:44

All Over 50's vaccinated. Vaccinate all school staff over the following few days then wait three weeks.

Enable us to have rotas so less students in the building.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 17:44

Anna you're not practising what you preach hen.

pinkhappy · 22/02/2021 17:45

I wonder what the masks rules will be exactly. Does anyone know?

Anna12345678910 · 22/02/2021 17:46

@Twinkie01

Keep yours at home then.

My 7 year old cried with joy and relief today when I told her only 9 more days of homeschooling.

Not that we're shit at homeschooling but she feels v v isolated and its effecting her mental health.

Children miss their friends - children need social interaction with peers

There are many, many children like your daughter wanting to see their friends - brilliant news and common sense prevails at last now that infections have fallen to manageable levels

Springhere · 22/02/2021 17:47

I'm so happy. I could barely sleep last night because I was so excited about telling the dc!
