..can they fuck.

There maybe plenty of reasons why they have too but to lie that it's safe is deplorable.

Our schools are in one of the towns in Kent that had a high rate pre-lockdown. My DS yr5 school only had two cases (neither in his class) and my DD yr 7 only had six days off as a close contact. I would consider both these schools very safe and I am happy to test both kids whenever required and both of them are happy to wear masks whenever asks.

With the vaccination programme being as successful as it apparently is, yes schools reopening is the right choice. Time to prioritise the many while protecting the few. Why else are we vaccinating if not to allow opening up? Thats the point of vaccination isn't it? Can't stayed locked up forever!

Chocolatehabit · 22/02/2021 16:36

Hooray!!!!!!!!

@mumsneedwine

I don't give a shiny shit about how I sound. I won't be going back under these conditions as it's not safe for anyone. Section 44 handed in 10 minutes ago. Lockdown 4 here we come. And if you really believe there will be no more isolations then you are naive. Poor year 11 & 13 are going to be totally stuffed if they have to isolate again.
Of course there are going to be more isolations, I’ll take that over zero in school education.

Probably a net benefit to the school body, really, not having you around to cast doom and gloom and attempt to patronise anyone who doesn't agree with you.

Surely if they're currently getting a sufficient education via remote learning, that will continue during any possible isolation period? Lockdown 4 is unlikely given the scale and success of the vaccine rollout.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 16:41

Maybe we should copy the advice of the vaccinations minister today and actually wait three weeks after the over 50s are vaccinated and then reopen schools?

Thirtyrock39 · 22/02/2021 16:42

The section 44 letter was seen by some other unions as going on strike so as long as you're prepared not to be paid ?
Of course there are risks to opening schools to all but it's all about balance and the benefits of schools being open are clear.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 16:42

@Fembot123 you might. I take my health over having students back. As I'm denied a vaccine I'm not going back. So 17 classes will have no teacher. All they had to do was vaccinate us. As Starmer said this could have been done over a weekend without causing any hold up to anyone else as they have the extra capacity. But Boris refuses to answer why he won't do this. So I'm afraid I'm out.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 16:42

@Thirtyrock39 yup. My life is worth more than money

Deliaskis · 22/02/2021 16:43

@mumsneedwine

Oh bless. Parents who think this will be like normal. We tested our KW students today and 2 bubbles had positive cases so they and the staff in them are now isolating for 10 more days. Off we go again for he in our education game.
That's quite condescending. I don't think anybody thinks that COVID has gone away and this is 100% like normal. But surely it isn't difficult for people to realise that for many people, having most kids in most of the time is far and away better than having most kids in none of the time.
mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 16:43

@Deliaskis if it's so important why didn't they vaccinate us last week ? If we are so vital.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 16:44

Mumsneedswine, come and have a wee Wine over in the staffroom

That is your wont @mumsneedwine, I hope you get the vaccine ASAP.

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 16:46

@ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown I'm on my way. Staggered by the weirdness of people though. Education is sooooooooo important. So vital, so amazing. But the people who deliver it are not worth protecting. Nought so weird as folk. 🍷

PracticingPerson · 22/02/2021 16:47

@Pootle40

And with the study coming out today re impact on vaccine in reducing hospitalisation this seems like the right call. If only sturgeon would hurry up and follow suit.
I think there's a tortoise and hare situation between Scotland and England. The modelling for England from September if we follow this roadmap of Johnson's is, er, not great. Scotland looks to have the more sustainable approach, so I would rather England followed sturgeon's plan.
Fembot123 · 22/02/2021 16:48

I’m cannon fodder anyway as school staff but not a teacher so was never allowed to WFH.

I was thinking this. So may parents pleased to get their children back but not a lot of respect for teachers, some comments of 'resign if you can't handle it' are awful.
You would almost think of teachers as childcare wouldn't you...

Remmy123 · 22/02/2021 16:52

@mumsneedwine are you vulnerable?

If not then you are being OTT.

Fembot123 · 22/02/2021 16:53

I would never say resign and I really hope the experienced teachers and any support who don’t feel safe to go back are allowed a bit of leeway and come back once vaccinated. I still think it’s right to reopen.

phlebasconsidered · 22/02/2021 16:53

@Fembot123 at my school all teachers are in and some TA's are at home, some are in. The ones at home are managing the Google classroom day to day queries. The teachers do the content and planning for it as well as teach in school. And that's been the case since last year. We are all cannon fodder.

Remmy123 · 22/02/2021 16:54

@MummaPI no parents do not think of it as childcare - it's a child's right, to have education!!!

pinkhappy · 22/02/2021 16:55

I am really happy that schools are going to open. A little sad about masks in secondary school but it's a small price to pay.

CovidCrow · 22/02/2021 16:55

Woohoo, I'm with those celebrating, let's open those schools and get back to bloody normal 🥳

(Sorry for the vulnerable families - I do believe you should be able to keep your kids at home if you wish without losing their place. Same as vulnerable teachers hope you can stay at home till you get vaccinated).

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 16:56

@Fembot123 if we'd been vaccinated I too would think it right to open. Fully and happily. But this is criminal.
And to whoever asked yes I am vulnerable. But no vaccine yet as, despite what the papers say, not all vulnerable have been vaccinated. I'm waiting for my invite.

MummaPI · 22/02/2021 16:56

Agreed! I don't think you can speak for all parents though and the disrespect on here is outrageous. If anyone shows a slight concern about being in school they are labelled as work shy and told to put the children first. It's horrible.
