..can they fuck.

There maybe plenty of reasons why they have too but to lie that it's safe is deplorable.

I am glad they are going back, I am, but I just wish it was a phased return so there is less chance of it going tits up. Part time/rotas etc. I am not holding my breath that we will be back to normal by june with no masks, no social distancing - we were told last year that that was where we would be in November yet here we are now in lockdown. I guess only time will tell, I am hoping for the best but I will only really believe it when it happens.

TwelvePaws · 22/02/2021 20:34

I’m feeling cautiously optimistic as that’s how Whitty came across. It will be lovely for the kids to see their friends again but I do feel for the teachers. It doesn’t seem fair to them to not be vaccinated as a group. I know a couple of older teachers who aren’t going to go back til they’re vaccinated and I don’t blame them.

Psychobobble · 22/02/2021 20:35

The ONS survey from Sept to Jan is out today and if we are vaccinating people in jobs at highest risk of exposure then we need to vaccinate police, probation service, army, prison staff, fire brigade, hairdressers, childcare staff, funeral directors, and secretarial staff before teachers...

I get the anxiety. I work in schools. But we aren't any more special than any other profession. What if the police or prison staff all decided to go off until 3 weeks after they were all vaccinated?

echt · 22/02/2021 20:38

Unfortunately this minority of parents come on here and shout very loudly. It becomes very tiresome, especially when they fail to understand schools are safe for children and teachers are at no greater risk than anyone else

The latest ONS data shows teachers as the second highest rate of Covid+ infection.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 22/02/2021 20:38

@mumsneedwine I am going to try to channel your attitude Grin

itsgettingwierd · 22/02/2021 20:38

My ds wants to carry on remote learning.

He also reckons most secondary and college tutors would prefer it "because you can mute the dick heads who insist on disrupting" 🤔🤣

He's absolutely gutted he won't return to swimming for at least 7 weeks.

everythingisstillginandroses · 22/02/2021 20:39

Man, I'm glad I'm not a teacher. Total respect to you all and hope you can get through ok Flowers

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:40

Hairdressers are shut, no? So might be an idea to vaccinate them before reopening, but not more than three weeks before.
Of course the police should be vaccinated.
I think it is getting a bit tiring how many "I'm in my 30s with no health conditions and I've just had the vaccine" posts I've read on here in recent days. Perhaps they are lying?
Secretarial staff? Well if it includes the ones in school, perhaps!
The bottom line is if you can do your job with no or minimal contact with other people, you have less exposure. Teachers do not fall into that category.

itsgettingwierd · 22/02/2021 20:40

@ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown

I'm still working tonight and will be for some time, I wish I actually was one of these uncaring teachers who isn't trying to do the best for their pupils.
I read some teacher bashing bollocks in all my years here but this is the BIGGEST pathetic load of bollocks I've read yet Hmm
ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:41

Em...
I'm a teacher? Pointing out if I didn't give a shit I would have packed my work away hours ago!

itsgettingwierd · 22/02/2021 20:42

Not you btw!!!! But rather the fact people think teachers are uncaring and don't want the best for their pupils!

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:42

But if you didn't know that I can see the other way you might have read my post!! BlushGrin

Doris86 · 22/02/2021 20:42

@ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown

Doris I fail to understand, as you put it, that teachers are at no greater risk than people working from home precisely because it is complete, absolute, dangerous bollocks.
I work from home and have a son in school. If there is a case in his class, there is a risk he might bring it home and pass it on to me. So I’m at similar risk to the teacher.

Having said that there have been 3 separate cases in my sons school. Not one of them passed it on to any other child or the teacher.

itsgettingwierd · 22/02/2021 20:42

Sorry X posts. Once listed I realised it looked like I meant you. I'm so sorry that wasn't my intention and as school staff I get it Thanks

I was about to come and ask what you were on but I see you don't believe it either. I don't think it's safe for secondary schools, no.
Randomschoolworker19 · 22/02/2021 20:43

On the one hand I'm optimistic and happy, yet on the other hand I can't help but be concerned. I'm not sure throwing everyone back into schools when we've got 20,000 people in hospital and 7000-10000 new cases a day is a good idea.

When we closed schools in March of 2020 there were around 30 deaths a day and way fewer cases and people in hospital.

I fear it is the sane old Tory mistake - enter lockkdown too late, leave lockkdown too soon.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:43

Doris I raise you two dc of school age and a teacher dh. All four in different schools.

TwelvePaws · 22/02/2021 20:44

"because you can mute the dick heads who insist on disrupting"

My kids have loved the fact that teachers can do this. Some kids are so rude and disruptive, I don’t know how teachers cope with them in the classroom.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:44

No worries, itsgettingweird.
Smile

Xenia · 22/02/2021 20:44

My son has worked right through since March (not in a school) and no vaccinations obviously. Loads of people have.

Now the most vulnerable are getting a vax it is safe for the others . Children die every year from a father killing them or on the road or complication of flu etc - life is full of risks and CV19 is another one. That does not mean they should not go into schools.

everythingisstillginandroses · 22/02/2021 20:45

...and actually it is a fucking farce that schools are bullied micromanaged by the DFE and PHE to the extent of determining whether masks should be worn or not. Maybe they'll move on to dictating how many buttons pupils should have on their blazers? It should be a headteacher's call and that's it.

Oh, and for those who say "If I said/did that my employer would fire me" - fuck your employer.

GintyMcGinty · 22/02/2021 20:46

*"because you can mute the dick heads who insist on disrupting"

"My kids have loved the fact that teachers can do this. Some kids are so rude and disruptive, I don’t know how teachers cope with them in the classroom."*

At least you get some live teaching and human interaction. We have had zero.

Bagamoyo1 · 22/02/2021 20:47

@mumsneedwine

I don't give a shiny shit about how I sound. I won't be going back under these conditions as it's not safe for anyone. Section 44 handed in 10 minutes ago. Lockdown 4 here we come. And if you really believe there will be no more isolations then you are naive. Poor year 11 & 13 are going to be totally stuffed if they have to isolate again.
All secondary pupils and teachers are to wear masks this time, everywhere. So how is school more risky than any other place where there are people?
Ltdannygreen · 22/02/2021 20:47
@pinkpip100
It’s not glee. It’s the exhilaration of sheer relief. It’s utter thankfulness. It’s not that we selfishly don’t care about vulnerable teachers or vulnerable families. We do care about them, of course. But to expect us to be anything other than happy that our children will finally get to return? That’s asking too much of people who have already seen their families suffer a great deal too much. As has repeatedly been pointed out here, the sacrifices our children have made have been to protect the NHS - well, the vaccines are taking some of the slack now so our children can get a little bit of their lives back. I’m not ashamed to say I’m overjoyed about that.
The latest ONS data shows teachers as the second highest rate of Covid+ infection.

I believe teachers get tested once or twice a week though. The general population don’t get regular tests. Therefore figures for teachers will always be higher than average, and it’s not necessarily a true reflection.
