..can they fuck.

There maybe plenty of reasons why they have too but to lie that it's safe is deplorable.

I haven’t seen anyone on this thread saying they don’t want their children to go back to school. I desperately want my children to have that opportunity, but I don’t agree that this “Big Bang” approach is the only or best way to go about it

Exactly and for the record I am mainly fucked not having the kids at school

BungleandGeorge · 22/02/2021 19:57

@Abraxan it says the first week they can stagger them in for testing, prioritising year 11 and 10

mumsneedwine · 22/02/2021 19:59

@Tal45 Thank you.

BungleandGeorge · 22/02/2021 20:00

I have doubts about the wisdom of having all back in one go due to the covid infection rate and that some places have only just started vaccinating group 5. Obviously it will depend hugely on what part of the country you are in

readyforachangemaybe · 22/02/2021 20:01
@Chloemol I'm a teacher and I'm not sending me back, so 300+ students just lost their teacher. All for the sake of a vaccine.
If I told my employer this, I would get fired

KeepWashingThoseHands · 22/02/2021 20:03

@pinkpip100

That’s because Chris Whitby does not make policy.

What is ‘BEST’ is a bigger question than purely how safe schools are. Everything is a series of trade offs - which is not his decision ultimately.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 22/02/2021 20:05

I am happy schools are going back. But I do think teachers could have had the vaccination along with other people who work with the public.
I've had the jab because I work for the NHS even though I don't deal with the public at all.
To me risk could have been calculated based on clinical risk and risk of exposure due to your job. I suppose that would be harder to do though and may have led to further delays and people arguing the toss.
Having said that I'm right in thinking that if you were shielding you'd have had your first jab now though?
Also I'd encourage anyone of any profession to discuss concerns with their employer, and would suggest if you work in the public sector you would be more likely to have a positive outcome from those discussions.

HerrWanksock · 22/02/2021 20:05

@Tal45

Awful attitude towards *@mumsneedwine* on here. I would have no problem with all teachers over 50/CV to have had their vaccines + 3 weeks before any kids go back and mine's in Yr 10.
I'm afraid it's a consequence of reap what they sow. They've spent months shrugging their indifference re the impact this has had on our kids and trotting out their trite resilience line whenever someone says they're struggling.

This has damaged my view of the teaching profession so much, especially when I see other professions, at far greater risk, carrying on. The other day the teachers on here were asked what they wanted to feel safe. The overwhelming answer was masks, they've got that now so time to get back to work, same as the rest of us.

Yes I feel like people forget this.

TableFlowerss · 22/02/2021 20:07

You can’t please everyone all the time.

But you can’t keep the majority locked up for something that won’t affect them.

Thank god common sense has prevailed. As BJ explains, whether you open up in 3 months or 6 months, some people will sadly die of covid.

Basilandparsleyandmint · 22/02/2021 20:10

So when should they return back op ?
Sick sick sick of all the people that don't won’t kids to return - we have to live and get on. There are enough people having vaccines now let’s move on.

You are always welcome to homeschool

wizzbangfizz · 22/02/2021 20:11

@TheKeatingFive

No concerns expressed for staff

It certainly strikes me that the expectations around concern for teaching staff are much higher than some other workers. Food production being one that stands out very prominently to me.

Bollocks
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 22/02/2021 20:14

Having just watched the live national address I sense much hope for optimism and in particular rate Professor Chris Whitty on his assured clear, reasoned and measured pragmatic approach. However I understand these are initial steps and dependent on the remaining expected headroom for gradual unlocking of society.

I do hope that children are not "weaponised" or used to test the headroom but on balance with other combined health risk mitigation measures welcome a return to school for those not socially economically disadvantaged or otherwise vulnerable enough to have been at school over past months daily to return to in person schooling too. Let's ensure this is not just 2020 open and close repeat cycles again as this must be measured, balanced and above all sustainable long term.

B33Fr33 · 22/02/2021 20:16

I'll wait until the teacher (twenty years younger than me and probably last in the queue) has been vaccinated thanks.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:17

How many deletions has Herrwanksock had on this thread?

BaconAndAvocado · 22/02/2021 20:18

So pleased for the kids to get back to face to face teaching and everything else that school life entails.

Even my 2 teenagers are happy to go back!

Feeling happy, relieved and positive.

Crumpetycrump · 22/02/2021 20:20

Hooray I’m very glad. Lateral flow tests twice a week for secondary students and staff plus masks should help mitigate the risks until the vaccine roll out is completed.

echt · 22/02/2021 20:24

I'm afraid it's a consequence of reap what they sow.

So your disgusting attitude is the fault of the teachers? You sound about twelve.

They've spent months shrugging their indifference re the impact this has had on our kids and trotting out their trite resilience line whenever someone says they're struggling

Mame one teacher. find one thread where teacher on MN has been indifferent,

This has damaged my view of the teaching profession so much, especially when I see other professions, at far greater risk, carrying on.

Well your good opinion is worth zilch. As is anyone's. What matters is how people are treated.

The other day the teachers on here were asked what they wanted to feel safe. The overwhelming answer was masks, they've got that now so time to get back to work, same as the rest of us

And not before time, when in so many schools they were forbidden.

Doris86 · 22/02/2021 20:24

@Wishihadanalgorithm

As a teacher I am bloody delighted I can get back to school and teach in my classroom with children sat in front of me. Yes we will all be masked and visored up with hand gel and disinfectant wet wipes everywhere but I will be in a classroom with real live pupils in front of me and I can’t wait!

In my live lessons today I was talking to my students about this and they all can’t wait to return as well. I suspect very, very few parents will want to keep their children at home if my students are anything to go by.

Agreed, it is a tiny tiny minority of parents who don’t want to send their children back. The vast majority of parents and children are counting the days until they go back.

Unfortunately this minority of parents come on here and shout very loudly. It becomes very tiresome, especially when they fail to understand schools are safe for children and teachers are at no greater risk than anyone else. Schools were only closed to slow the spread. The government has now made the judgment that the vaccine is very good at slowing the spread and reducing hospitalisation. Therefore schools no longer need to remain closed.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:25

I'm still working tonight and will be for some time, I wish I actually was one of these uncaring teachers who isn't trying to do the best for their pupils.

ItsIgginningtolooklikelockdown · 22/02/2021 20:27

Doris I fail to understand, as you put it, that teachers are at no greater risk than people working from home precisely because it is complete, absolute, dangerous bollocks.

GintyMcGinty · 22/02/2021 20:32

I am so jealous. I don't think Nippy will let ours go back till after Easter.

My kids are learning nothing with just powerpoints and worksheets and no human interaction with school and teachers and are really missing their friends.

Its completely shit.

GintyMcGinty · 22/02/2021 20:32

Sorry forgot to say am in Scotland
