Had my invite, but how can I find out in advance which jab I'll be getting?

I got one of the new shielding letters last week moving me into group six for vaccines, and had my invite today. I've been offered a choice of two centres: one place a short walk away, one absolutely miles and miles away. Plenty of appointments next week, but no information other than an appointment time to select and an address.

I will only accept certain vaccines due to religious reasons, so I would like to find out what vaccine they are distributing at each centre before I book an appointment. The close one is an ex youth centre and I googled their phone number but no one answered - presumably because the office is closed.

I don't want to waste an appointment by booking and then having to find out it's the wrong one when I get there. I suppose I could walk past it and drop in, but that seems like madness covid-wise.

WWYD?

I think it's beyond the pale to turn up for an appt and refuse it because it doesn't fit with your religion.

If it bothers you that much, dont go and take the risk of being very ill and / or infecting other people.

This is why I am an atheist.

Religion ha a lot to answer for and not in a good way.

RightMovesAlong · 22/02/2021 14:52

You don't get a choice.

I've had mine and you are told as the needle is about to go in which it is.

Please do not waste an appt faffing about if you have a preference.

Adios2011 · 22/02/2021 14:53

If you go to the appointment and it's not the vaccine you want and go home, then you've wasted a vaccine!

Floralnomad · 22/02/2021 14:53

I had a Pfizer vaccine at a smallish GP hub , you can’t be picky . I hope they have the vaccine you want , if they don’t then as far as I’m concerned you’ve declined and shouldn’t be offered another one until everybody else has been offered theirs , and I’m not just talking about other people in your group .

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/02/2021 14:54

Yes its fine to have a choice of you want but not ok to take an appt that someone else could have in my opinion.
If there is no way of knowing which jab , what of we all done this could be a lot of wasted appts

BettysButtons · 22/02/2021 14:54

Pope Francis is the latest high-profile figure to join the global vaccination campaign against coronavirus, calling opposition to the jab “suicidal denial”.
This is because as he says, they are a 'lifesaving, ethical obligation'

Pretty strong words from the head of the Catholic Church.

Are you sure you don't just want to choose because you think some brands are better than others?

This thread has really annoyed me.

SerendipityJane · 22/02/2021 14:54

@BettysButtons

inews.co.uk/news/world/pope-ethical-obligation-vaccinated-catholic-church-823767 'The Pope called on everyone to get the vaccine, saying they are a lifesaving, ethical obligation'
Seems the OPs position is the Pope is wrong.
islockdownoveryet · 22/02/2021 14:55

Op your reason isn’t even religious you just want to choose .
At least the people that are saying they don’t want it are honest however misguided but your argument pretending it’s religious reasons .
And your surprised at the response really .

balloonsintrees · 22/02/2021 14:55

Catholicism is literally ALL about doing what the Pope says...otherwise turn to one of the Protestant denominations.

This is why your position becomes somewhat ridiculous, if you are truly Catholic then you accept Papal and Magisterium authority, not disregard it whenever you feel like it which is what you are doing.

And before you throw a hissy fit and tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, I was raised Catholic, spent time as a novitiate & have a theology degree...I think this makes me qualified to answer don't you?

diavlo · 22/02/2021 14:55

@PerspicaciousGreen
There has been a glitch in the coding system meaning that people who suffered with GD have been incorrectly put into category 6. Please contact your GP surgery and this cord as you are not yet eligible to receive the vaccination.

TheChineseChicken · 22/02/2021 14:56

How are threads like this allowed to stand. AFAIK there are no valid religious reasons for rejecting any of the vaccines. Surely thread threads are dangerous?!

hatedbytheDailyMail · 22/02/2021 14:58

Catholicism really isn't about just doing everything the Pope does

Obviously not, as not all Catholics live in the Vatican where a dress. But Catholicism is definitely about doing what the Pope tells you to do. He's the head of your church and your gods representative on earth, and you're supposed to do what he tells you to do.

Crowsaregreat · 22/02/2021 14:58

So OP, as part of being pro-life you would turn down a potentially life-saving vaccine, which might go to waste that day? It could save your own life and many others if you were an asymptomatic carrier, but you would refuse because stem cells from an aborted fetus were used in the development?

It never fails to amaze me how pro-life movements are all about fetisihing the fetus/policing women's bodily autonomy and less about protecting life in all its forms.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/02/2021 14:58

What ever religion you are. You have a religious and moral responsibility to protect the elderly & vulnerable in society.

Not taking the first vaccine offered to you would be purely against what most religions beliefs. You will potentially be putting others in danger to fan your own self worth.

So either you don't follow your own religion well and pick and choose their teachings. Else you are following some weird cult that doesn't care about others.

Crookairroad · 22/02/2021 14:59

You decline the vaccine now (please don’t be a complete twat and decline on the day) and then when everyone who is happy to take what they are given, you can book and pay for your desired choice.

That’s all I’m saying because if I start I won’t stop. Religion. FFS.

EXACTLY THIS

Waspnest · 22/02/2021 15:00

Do what you like. However, potentially wasting an appointment is disgraceful.

Just say No Thanks till you're able to choose. And stay out of other peoples' way, if you don't mind.

This ^

This thread has really annoyed me as well.

callmeadoctor · 22/02/2021 15:00

I am curious OP to ask if you completely follow your religious beliefs for everything you have done (or about to do) in life? Of course you don't have to answer, but Id be willing to bet that you don't follow all the catholic guidelines?

BettysButtons · 22/02/2021 15:00

OOPS WRONG QUOTE! (Sorry for shouting!)

I meant to quote this!

I did actually contact my GP surgery, suggesting that it was an error and I did not need to shield/was not eligible to book a vaccine. They looked at my medical history and concurred, but told me that given some other bits of my medical history they recommended I get the vaccine sooner if possible so would keep that coding on my record but that I am not in any particularly great danger from covid.

ememem84 · 22/02/2021 15:01

I was under the impression that vaccine centres have all of the different types?

I'm in Jersey and we have one vaccine centre here which has both the AZ and pfizer one. this is because some people are allergic to the ingredients in one or the other.

i just assumed that they would be readily available at all centres.

RightMovesAlong · 22/02/2021 15:01

What's the GD the op has? never heard of it.

Waspnest · 22/02/2021 15:02

I think GD is gestational diabetes.

BettysButtons · 22/02/2021 15:02

Anyone who thinks they know more than I do about my own personal beliefs can, I guess, answer their own further questions, as they know so much and official Catholic teaching (in all its nuances) is widely available

I think YOU OP need to pay closer attention to what the head of the Catholic Church, The Pope, is saying.

RightMovesAlong · 22/02/2021 15:02

How 'believing' in someone that doesn't exist can actually cause so many issues.
