Hope no-one minds me starting this. Apologies if another has started too. Please can someone add the pretty pictures.

NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Please note, this is a thread to share good news and for wobblers to be reassured. Doomploppers will be met with scorn and derision!

Numbers looking good today

OrangeBananaFish · 24/02/2021 16:30

So I've had a run, heard parkrun are going to announce something (which, TBF, might not necessarily be great news) on friday and the figures are low. I can forget about others predictions regarding the roadmap out of lockdown. Things are looking good.

@alreadytaken the nhs does have capacity to treat those children - it’s part of normal winter planning. There has been capacity in paeds throughout this year, in fact leads wards were merged so wards were free to take adult patients. Hope that’s reassuring.

TeaInTheGarden · 24/02/2021 16:39

Oh I would love to get park run back 🤞🏻
Would be such a boost!

I have been worrying about babies like mine that have had very little exposure to the normal germs, bacteria, cold and stuff they normally would in their first year.

Of course she has had all her vaccinations. However it can't be good for the immune system to never encounter stuff to fight off. I am no doctor or scientist and have done no research I might add. Just have that anxiously in the back of my head. Probably a load of rubbish

Pomegranatespompom · 24/02/2021 16:51

Baby will get exposure once starts mixing/nursery. Then you’ll have a few fevers, constant runny nose etc as usual but normally mild.

There are some babies who’s parents restrict in normal times. When you work in paeds, staff are sick a lot for the 1st 6 months then pretty resistant after, so something in that exposure theory 😊

Pomegranatespompom · 24/02/2021 16:52

I’ve given up various unhealthy items for lent, hoping this helps my running which is slow ...

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/02/2021 16:53

I think it’s pretty normal for babies not to be exposed to much in their first year because they’re at home more. Mine never really got ill till they started nursery and then it was pretty constant for the first term (the nightmare of trying to get back up to speed with work while constantly getting called to pick up sick dc!)

shinynewapple21 · 24/02/2021 17:06

@ILookAtTheFloor

It was better than I thought! So happy Covid Zero off the table for one thing.

Boris was looking sexy with his hair long GrinGrin yes I know not to everyone's taste!

Ha ha Definitely a positive thread - you've really made me laugh here Grin

Oh, and I love the phrase 'doomploppers' (mentioned in the OP)

I’ve just managed to book 60 year old DH a vaccine for this Friday through the online booking system. They had loads of slots available. He’s worried though as he hasn’t heard via the GP surgery and doesn’t want to queue jump or get turned away. I think it’s fine because when I put my details in it said I wasn’t eligible (I’m 55) so surely I wouldn’t have been able to book him in if it wasn’t legit? Can anyone reassure that what I’ve done is ok? We don’t want to do anything we shouldn’t!

ACovidofWitches · 24/02/2021 17:21

I think the drop in numbers is brilliant today. I do think opening things up could be accelerated just a little if this continues over the coming weeks. Fingers crossed anyway.

I think the system only lets you book if you're eligible so if he booked with no issues, that's all ok. My parents did similar a few weeks ago based on the thread on here. It was all fine.
Inastatus · 24/02/2021 17:27

@ACovidofWitches - thank you for that 😊

Pearl97 · 24/02/2021 17:40

@Inastatus you’re totally right. I know someone who works for the vaccine booking line and if it lets you book please book. They need people to book on when able. I bet a letter arrives very soon xx

Inastatus · 24/02/2021 17:56

@Pearl97 - that’s good to hear, thank you 😊

TeaInTheGarden · 24/02/2021 19:31

The US are set to approve the J&J one shot vaccine. This is really good news for them and will massively speed them up.
I want it approved here now so the under 50s can be done super quickly!

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 19:39

I just saw these Stunning Pfizer stats from Israel.

And in related news my early 70s parents in Wales have 2nd Pfizer jab booked in 5 weeks after their first. This is in Wales where they are now prioritising Pfizer for 2nd shots.

FourTeaFallOut · 24/02/2021 19:51

Those figures Shock Amazing! (But how nervous would you be if you start getting symptoms - there's not much in it at that point. 😬)

Pomegranatespompom · 24/02/2021 20:26

Brilliant thanks for posting @Frazzled2207

OrangeBananaFish · 24/02/2021 20:34

I'm going to ask here so I don't get flamed elsewhere if that is OK?

I've been really anxious today. I am due to start a new job soon. Don't have a start date as yet, but it could be 1st or 8th March. Anyway what is the chance of a positive lateral flow test if you haven't been anywhere? I'm just really nervous of starting my new job on 8th March and then one of the DCs testing positive at school. The only way of them getting home is me picking them up. How bad would that look on my first day?

I do tend to overthink things, but this has been on my mind all day (not helped by a thread on here) especially as I think testing is the way forward.

OP posts:
OrangeBananaFish · 24/02/2021 20:36

Just to add, they've hardly left the house at all in 2021. The furthest they have been is to the postbox a few metres down the road and that was only a couple of times. They have no symptoms, but that might not mean anything hence the mass testing.

OP posts:
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/02/2021 20:45

Did they lick the post boxGrin

No seriously. It sounds amazingly unlikely that in that first week of testing your kids would get a positive. Not if they have been no where and you haven't been working.

I am sure someone else is able to say something more scientific but relax ❤

OrangeBananaFish · 24/02/2021 20:49

Did they lick the post box
Possibly I wasn't there Grin

If I'm eating scones I'm not messing around. It's butter first!!! Then jam . Then cream. You need butter!!!

I saw some stupid programme last night from some years ago. The reality kind where police patrols stop drivers on the motorway. The idea of being free to drive on the motorway, to go wherever you like! Might just do it for fun. I've not driven since before Christmas I think! ShockI'm counting down the days to when "stay local" finishes.

tobee · 24/02/2021 21:14

Saw this about AstraZeneca jab and delayed second dose:-

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/nz.news.yahoo.com/amphtml/oxford-astra-zeneca-vaccine-delay-joint-committee-on-vaccination-and-immunisation-120609912.html

I see Germany's Bild newspaper are heading that Germany is envious of our vaccine rollout. And this the newspaper that trumpeted that AZ only has an efficacy of 8% in older people just days ago Hmm
