Hairdressers in May Fuck me. I'll look like Brian feckin May by then
That made me lol 😂 Sorry. My hair is awful too. Hi lights have grown out. Fringe is very long. By April I'll be tearing it out !

A year ago we had no vaccine and the virus was in retreat as the warmer weather arrived.

I too live in the South East and work in London. Lots and lots of colleagues with children and lots and lots of schools were barely affected. Many South East universities were barely affected either.

We understand far more about the virus now, we have a vaccine, we are moving into the warmer months. The negatives of lockdown on mental health and education have taken a very great toll and it is time to move back to normality with social distancing, etc.

Let's not forget how well the UK has done with the vaccination. We cannot stay locked down when the country is almost bankrupt and the consequences on young people are potentially catastrophic.

Had schools returned last May, in the summer, we might have seen a very different picture than we did in September/October and our children would have lost less overall education.

@studychick81

What do you mean all in doesn't work? My dc went back in September and continued until xmas with no problems. I don't think the jan lockdown was caused by schools.
No just a coincidence that the numbers went up like a rocket when schools went back. 🙄

This is what happens when you value popularity over learning from your mistakes!

Still I'll wait until I've heard it from BJ tomorrow.

@MrsMiggins22

Hairdressers are non essential in a bloody pandemic, that’s why they’re later! Just let it grow, cut it or pin it up...
Non essential shops, pubs, restaurants, outdoor sports and socialising aren't bloody essential in a pandemic either. Not really sure what your point is?
Beebityboo · 21/02/2021 23:02

All schools back all at once is literal madness tbh. There's some agenda there because there is no way that any scientist has told them that's a good idea. I fucking despair.

SonnetForSpring · 21/02/2021 23:02

It sounds to me like they are giving us freedom because they know people are at the end of their rope. However, we will be back in a form of lockdown in the winter months. As predicted, rolling lockdowns, that's what people can cope with psychologically, a consistent level of restrictions won't be accepted.

ihearttc · 21/02/2021 23:02

The hairdressers is ridiculous. I can manage mine but I’ve got 2 boys who desperately need their hair cutting. I can just about manage the 10 year old but there is no way my 16 year old will let me near his hair!

Me too. Late March to early July was bad enough last year.
studychick81 · 21/02/2021 23:03

It was caused by the new variant too. We were set to be back on track until then.

RosesAndHellebores · 21/02/2021 23:03

I wonder if my hairdresser could do my highlights and cut in the garden come April?

EasterIssland · 21/02/2021 23:03

Op mentions foreign travel expected until august . Rhe guardian says no plans so far

Was hoping to go and visit my family in June :(

Hair dressers and nail bars barely contribute to the situation however it’s another reason not to stay at home hence why they’re kept closed so that we don’t mix

But we are returning in March, beginning of March. When did it peak last year-early/mid April. We're not out of the woods yet.
RichardMarxisinnocent · 21/02/2021 23:04

@PuzzledObserver

No mention of overnight stays that I can find. My mother is a 2-hour drive away - that’s a long day for a garden visit. We did it in July, which was the last time I saw her.
I just braved the Daily Mail website in an attempt to find out about overnight stays - closed mention I could find was no holidays over Easter. I was really hoping to be able to spend a night or two in a hotel near a friend so we can have some sort of outdoor Easter celebration, and perhaps go to the same Easter Masses as each other.
GoingFullNorman · 21/02/2021 23:04

PinkFondantFancy same here. Middle child was at school near epicentre of Kent variant outbreak. 2 cases in whole (secondary) school all term, with (obviously) no spread.

Youngest child at school in area of high outbreak. No cases at all at (primary) school during winter term.

Oldest child at school with pupils from across the whole SE (SN school, so significant journeys involved for most pupils). One case, in the last week of term, with no spread.

The whole of the SE was not falling down by December, at all.

I await the actual announcement and then info from schools with interest. If there is any plans of a staged return, then surely not all pupils will be returning before Easter, given the shortness of time?

I wonder this - socialising in the garden will be ok plus the 'you can go to work if you can't work from home'....
justasking111 · 21/02/2021 23:04

Foreign holidays in August? will there be any airlines, hotels left by then.

It is all a bit silly in that the figures dropped off between May and September last time, also a lot more people will be vaccinated. Not a word about meeting family indoors which is what most folk want to do anyway.

I wonder if it all hinges on these covid passports, if we are desperate enough they could tattoo us and we would be grateful.

the80sweregreat · 21/02/2021 23:04

So let all the hairdressers go under and have more out of work?
I felt safer having my hair done last year than I did being at work ( in a school) it was very covid secure.
It might be ' non essential ' to some but so is ' the range' and they are open ..

Non-thread OP

ihearttc · 21/02/2021 23:05

But it looks like mixing will be allowed anyway. Sport leads to travel and people mixing so it makes absolutely no sense for hairdressers to have to be shut.

We run our own business, niche bespoke product that we can only sell via our showroom - that is around 1500 sq ft, over 2 floors and can easily be operated by appointment only. And we've spent a fucking fortune making covid secure.......... but people can stand in huge queues in B & M, Home Bargains and supermarkets because clearly Covid is selective in where it strikes.

I honestly could sit and cry reading the news tonight. And only on MN would people be bleating on about going abroad for their holidays Angry Angry whereas I'm sat here almost crying at the thought of making 8 people unemployed.

Suzi7979 · 21/02/2021 23:05

Boris has clearly not learned anything at all. How can he expect all children to return to school at the same time?

EasterIssland · 21/02/2021 23:05

Btw the guardian points at non essential shops opening in April ... I guess that’s when nail bars and hair dressers would open
