This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

The great thing about 1 in 3 is that it will seem like no time at all till we get to 1 in 2.

CoffeeandCroissant · 21/02/2021 14:39

Yes and as soon as we go over the 1 in 2 figure then that means more adults would have had the vaccine than not. Even if 50.1% is a very small majority it's still a majority (and will only increase obviously). Smile

Any estimates for when we reach that? (could be 3 weeks at best or more likely around 4 weeks, depending on how soon supply ramps back up and how fast). So somewhere between 14 and 21 March?

FannyCann · 21/02/2021 17:04

Anyone know how they are doing in Northern Ireland? Just got a message from a friend in Dublin saying the vaccine rollout is barely happening south of the border.

InterfectoremVulpes · 21/02/2021 17:24

NI are around 446k first doses

PuzzledObserver · 21/02/2021 17:51

Even before we get to 50% vaccinated, we will pass 50% immune because of those who have had Covid but not yet had a jab.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/02/2021 18:07

The covidvax page gives approximate numbers for the 4 nations as well as the U.K. as a whole

I heard earlier that a 64-year old where I live has had an invite text from the GP. So that’s group 7..... they must have already invited all the group 6’s, so moved on to the next group. I don’t think over 60’s are eligible via the national booking site yet, are they?

We have a big centre running 7 days a week, covering 3 PCN’s with an approximate patient population of 140,000. I don’t know how many they are doing per day, but it’s a lot! They are now open 8-8 with an hour’s break in the middle of the day. They are using the Pfizer vaccine, so I presume they have morning and afternoon batches.

After all these months holding my breath and caring for my 99 year old Dad I'm afraid the floodgates just uncontrollably opened when I was sitting in the chair waiting for my jab on Friday in RVH Belfast.
So relieved and grateful to get it. Still emotional now FGS.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 21/02/2021 20:24

@Ifionlyknewthenwhatiknownow3 I'm not surprised you're feeling emotional. I can imagine you've been incredibly worried over the past year and tried to keep it in check. I'm pleased you've got your vaccine and hopefully it won't be long before we can feel more confident about our loved ones being safer 🤞🏻

1 in 3❤

I know this week the numbers aren't as exciting as before but we are doing so well

They definitely plan to crank things up in March. The supply must be there. You can tell by the way they are talking and Boris shifting his target.

@FannyCann NI seem to be doing very well. While their daily numbers are low, compared to England, the population is less than 1/4 of London at 1.8 million.
Here’s a breakdown of the vaccine progress for their priority groups (its 5 days old, so will be a bit out of date now, but great figures, which are likely to have improved). All carers for vulnerable people in NI are now also eligible to be vaccinated at the mass vaccination centres, but I think the other main groups being vaccinated remain per the document. Anecdotally uptake rates have been very high when people have been offered the vaccine.

Thank you Lurker and others who have posted links.
Tough for my friend in Dublin. If only she had delayed her move there a couple of months she could have got vaccinated first.

Morning all. A nice reassuring Twitter thread here from my favourite statistician: twitter.com/jburnmurdoch/status/1363480366397485056?s=21

Basic points - vaccine effect is clearly seen in hospital admissions and deaths. Less clear in the fall in number of cases but they suspect that is because lockdown is the main driving factor in pushing those cases down.

It's pretty clear from the comparison with Israel that's what it is.

That is SUCH good news CaveMum!

Very excited for today’s new number, which will be official confirmation that we’ve now vaccinated over 1 in 3 adults! There are 53 million over 18s in the UK, so the number we need is 17,666,666!

I just discovered this shiny new table from the BBC. I know different areas are going at different speeds, but if we were doing the whole country in exact order, we’d have vaccinated everyone in groups 1-4 (14.6 million in total) by now and everyone in group 5 (65-69 year olds, 2.9 million in total) and we’d now be 82,121 into group six (those aged 16-64 with underlying health conditions and unpaid carers for the elderly and disabled - of which there are 7.3 million in total). Wooohooo!

I agree, it’s just that there are some doom-mongers out there who are claiming that the fact there is not a clear gap between the cases in the over 80s and those in the under 69s shows the vaccine is not working/slowing the spread.

Thank you CaveMum! And the AZ vaccine is actually more effective than the Pfizer jab too!

So good

The work led by Public Health Scotland found by the fourth week after the first dose hospitalisations were reduced by 85% and 94% for the Pfizer and AstraZeneca jabs respectively.
It is the first sign of the real world impact of the Covid vaccination programme in the UK.

Titsywoo · 22/02/2021 10:03

It's fantastic although a bit sad how negative we are as a society that the moaning about what the UK has done wrong is 20 times louder than the praise for this vaccination roll out!

My parents (late 60's) got their first jabs last week and I get mine next Wednesday (I volunteer in social care). DH is going to take me to my appointment (which is the last of the day) to see if they have any left over doses going spare!
